"Possibly the most meticulously kept property we have stayed at."
My partner and I stayed at the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort from January 18th-22nd, 2017. We cannot compliment them enough for their superior customer service and meticulously kept grounds. Upon entering the resort, we drove through a gorgeous tree lined street that made you know that you were arriving at a grand resort. We were greeted with shell leis and aloha's from the front desk. We were also told that the resort had recently been renovated and it definitely showed. Everything looked brand new. Rooms We had booked a room with a garden view, but our room actually had both a garden view and stunning ocean views. Our room was very clean and spacious. Our king bed was very comfortable and the bathrooms were quite large. All the drawers were soft close and the furniture was brand new. My only critique of the room would be that the door to our room shut a little loudly, and other rooms' doors also shut loudly. I think the door situation can be quickly remedied by adding soft close features or perhaps adjusting the locking mechanism. Other than that, the rooms were quiet and we didn't hear much noise. Customer Service By far, we were most impressed by their customer service. We traveled the island for the first few days of our trip and stayed at a different hotel. We were looking forward to finally relaxing at the Wailea Beach Resort and we accomplished that. From our server's Kelly and Terry at the pool areas to our waitress Lyn at the Kapa bar, everyone at the Marriott was genuinely nice and the service was impeccable. Grounds There is a beach path connecting many hotels, and we were able to see the grounds from The Andaz, Grand Wailea, The Four Seasons, etc. The Marriott grounds were some of the best and to me the most meticuously kept. Though the Marriott does not have a beach directly in front of it (mostly lava rocks), Wailea Beach and Ulua Beach were within sight and perhaps a 3-4 minute walk. In addition, there was always someone sweeping or cleaning the various pool areas, and they even had street cleaning machines constantly cleaning their parking areas. There were also two infinity pools (one for adults only) and three other pools for everyone (including one with a huge 4 story water slide that appeared to be used by more adults than children). My only critique of the pool areas is that there should be more chairs in the two infinity pools and less of the cabana type lounges. It was hard at times to find chairs at the infinity pools if you arrived past 9am-10am. Fees The resort did have a $30 daily resort fee which includes 2 beach chairs per day, courtesy rides within the Wailea Resort area, some daily fitness classes, unlimited beach towel usage, etc. We didn't really mind the $30 daily resort fee, because everything was maintained so well and there was a lot to do in the resort; however, we did wish that parking (an extra $25 per day) was included. Overall Overall, we had a great experience. We would definitely come back to this resort and recommend this to other people looking to book a hotel in Maui. In addition, we went around the island and found Wailea to be the most relaxing of all the areas. We found Wailea to have the best weather and felt it was less crowded than some of the other resort areas on Maui.
"Use your points elsewhere"
Well, as in all of my reviews of anywhere I like to be positive and constructive. The Wailea Marriott is overall a lovely looking property in a prime beach location, however, if you're looking for any special treatment at this place for your elite Platinum status then forget it. My partner and I arrived for a two night stay for a special occasion, I had rang the hotel and spoke with a manager a couple of weeks before about a possible upgrade for our room and was given a positive response that it probably would happen, and so before the manager responds to this let me tell you that I know the upgrades are done on a 'first come first served basis' and can't be guaranteed, however, given that I had called so far in advance to discuss this I felt even more disappointed. Upon check in we were initially given a 6th floor standard room (out of 8 floors) by the desk clerk, I asked to speak with a manager on duty who at least got us a 7th floor room and supposed upgrade. The room was nice but location awful overlooking lobby and valet area, very noisy and not what we had at all expected, we had already had a very long travel day so sleep was on our mind versus complaining. We were awaken the next morning very early by a drilling and sawing noise from the downstairs area, much to our dismay, we tried to get back to sleep but to no avail. Anyway, to cut a long story very short, don't expect anything more here than a standard guest treatment, no concierge club due to it being a resort and no breakfast, but because of this and most surprising, not even a resort credit towards breakfast or anything, tut tut Marriott, not good. Report fee and parking full charge extausionate,with no discounts. We complained about resort noise etc and did get one night of points compensated but just not good enough when you've planned a special Birthday occasion that bombed big time my a chain that you stay in 200 plus nights per year. Wailea Marriott manager, you need to address and acknowledge your most valued customers in a better manner, unacceptable level of benefits at your property. Guests, spend your points elsewhere is my suggestion unless this property improves your status recognition. Residence Inn nearby is brand new and with a lot more to offer.
"Roy Yamaguchiâ€™s Humble Market Kitchin WAS A REAL DISSAPOINTMENT"
You expect great food and service at one of Roy Yamaguchiâ€™s restaurants. Nothing could be further from the truth about this place. Not inexpensive Wait staff, all (we interacted with 3) were suboptimal for any reasonable restaurant - maybe OK for a Ruby Tuesdays - they were polite, but seemed uninformed - maybe OK as this was a new restaurant, BUT they less than responsive. The food was really suboptimal - Lamb Chops were not edible; my sibs were greasy; Tuna just OK Sad Roy Yamaguchi you should work there regularily and also eat there to make it work
"Lipstick on a Pig"
Best features of this hotel: service, fitness center, pools and location. Worst features: the rooms, they are cave-like and not well maintained despite a "remodel" in the spring of 2016. This is our 3rd stay at this hotel in the past 10 years and the lobby, common areas and gym are nicely appointed, unfortunately, the rooms show their age and leave much to be desired. It appears that in the 2016 remodel they added a new throw rug, some new furniture and new shower tiling in the rooms. However, they neglected to update the air conditioners which are very loud and rattled throughout the night not only in our room but our travel companion's room as well as other guests we spoke to throughout our stay. Additionally, the air conditioning units are inconsistent in the rooms (varying temps) and emit a musty odor which we encountered upon first entering our room. So much so, that we switched rooms immediately but soon noticed the same odor in the next room we were offered. Unfortunately, when something doesn't work properly and gets a second look that forces a guest to start looking more closely at the surroundings to see that a slap of paint and new furniture doesn't cover up the dirty and very old fan vent in the new shower or the broken light switch covers that are also dirty, nor the deck flooring that had paint splatters and needed a good mopping. We visited the Executive Roy's on property and were disappointed, wasn't any different than any other Roy's, which we fell out of love with some years ago. The food is inconsistent and over-priced. The final interesting point to note is that nowhere on the property is there any Marriott branding. In fact, we missed the turn to the property because the signage said Wailea Beach Resort, not Marriott, which we were accustomed to seeing. When we inquired about the missing branding, the responses we received were varied and vague, leaving us guessing. Overall, I would give the staff 4.5, the grounds (pool & fitness center) a 4.5 and the rooms a 2 out of 5 rating. When we complained the staff was very courteous and the gestures to make us happy were generous. Unfortunately, we cannot overlook the decline of this property and don't plan to stay there ever again.
"Great property but under renovation"
My family and I stayed at this property right before Christmas. This property has a great location very close to the Shops at Wailea. Unfortunately they didn't tell us they were going through a major renovation before we arrived otherwise we would have stayed at a different property. During the first part of our trip, the kids pools were closed. Fortunately they opened up for the last two days we were there so our kids could enjoy them. The new kids area and water slides are awesome! Front desk service is a bit lacking but overall the Marriott is still a great property to stay at when staying in the Kihei/Wailea area. One thing travelers with kids should be aware of is that the property does not heat the new kids pools so they can get very cold. It's also quite expensive dining at the pool, so we'd recommend taking a short walk over the Shops next door to get your food at the Whaler's General store or one of the other restaurants. It's a much better value.
