"Wonderful, Modern Resort"
Loved this place, we spent 6 nights here. The resort is brand new, modern and immaculate. Service was amazing at the front desk and activities desk by the kid pool. Front desk people were really good at helping plan our day with us. Giving us maps and highlighting areas to visit, what to do with kids and what not to do. The girls at the activities desk were wonderful too, they didn't oversell rental equipment. Gave great advise for how to utilize the boogie boards as floats for snorkelling so I didn't need an additional life jacket for my little one. The kids pool is fantastic, with a high water slide. The resort is between two beaches so its a few min walk to either Ulua beach or Wailea beach. Both are really lovely beaches. Ulua is good to see bobbing turtles. The restaurant for a breakfast buffet is super expensive, we only went there once. Suggest you walk across to Island Gourmet (3 min walk from lobby) for croissants and coffee, pre-cut fruit etc. The location of the resort is ideal (although 30 min drive from the airport) and there are so many places to eat. We ordered in a few times as kids fell asleep early due to jet lag. Recommend Manoli's pizza and Pita Paradise close by. We went onto Kauai and stayed at Marriott Lihue next, total and utter disappointment compared to the Wailea Marriott. Wailea Marriott really sets the bar really high!! Families with kids will love it as will couples. Won't hesitate to recommend and stay again. Staff and resort exceptional!
"Depends on which room you get"
This resort is very lovely. It is quite expansive with rooms over a large area. I was in two different rooms on the property. One was in the tower on the 8th floor and had a gorgeous view of the ocean. The other was over in the conference room are and was not as nice. The staff was wonderful. The pools were very nice - some with fun slides and very child friendly. The restaurants had good food and there were some nice retail shops in walking distance. The location was pretty far away from Lahaina if you wanted to go into town.
We stayed here in September last year for two nights . We booked through booking.com, knowing there was some construction going on, so got a great price. The works didn't effect us really, the lobby was under going some works and the rest of the works were on a new kids pool area. We got a free drinks voucher on checking in and a newly upgraded room. The hotel is in a great spot, with beaches both sides of the property, shopping and restaurants a short walk away. We ate lunch at the Kapa bar and grill, in the hotel which was very good, and Tommy Bahamas behind the hotel, also very good. All the staff we encountered were friendly, especially the waitresses round the adult only pool, keeping us topped up with refreshments and frozen treats! Great sunsets from the adult only pool. My only gripes are the parking & resort fees, which are insane, but this seems to be the norm with most big hotels in the U.S these days, i guess we just have to accept it! Would love to return one day.
Had a fabulous Spring Break at Wailea Beach Resort! Hotel grounds and views are gorgeous. Highly recommend to any family. Kids loved the adventure pool and the game room. We ate several great inexpensive breakfasts and lunches at the Island Gourmet store and deli at the adjacent shopping mall.
"Beautiful new property, awesome grounds"
We had an awesome stay at the newly renovated Wailea Beach Resort. From the moment we got there, we were impressed with every aspect of this hotel. We were greeted with leis upon arrival, which was a nice touch. The drive up to the hotel was nicely landscaped, and the the open air lobby that you approach is beautifully constructed, with rocking chairs, a koi pond, a fire pit, fountains, and a lovely view to the ocean. The staff was amazing, starting with Arman at the front desk. In addition to being extremely friendly and making us feel welcome immediately, he made sure we got an amazing upgraded suite due to my husband's Marriott Platinum status. He also had a welcome gift for my son--a cute stuffed shark! The bellhop was full of information as he escorted us to our room with our bags, and he made many recommendations about things to do in the area. Every member of the housekeeping staff that we saw always greeted us with a warm welcome as we passed. We even had one of the staff members approach us as we sat in a tree swing outside the lobby and offer to take a family photo. He said that he saw us and thought it was a moment that we'd want to capture for posterity, and he was right. It's clear that the hotel prides itself on customer service and hires exceptional staff. Our room was stellar. We ended up with a garden suite in the Haleakala building. Despite it being "garden" we still had a partial ocean view, which was a nice surprise. The suite featured a large living-room style space that held a large sofa (with bed) and a breakfast nook (with a mini fridge). The room also featured a bedroom separated from the living room space with a pocket door, 1.5 baths (with the main bath having a huge soaker tub that we really enjoyed), two lanais, and quite a bit of closet space. The bed was comfortable and the large shower had excellent water pressure. We have an infant, and the room was PERFECT for us because we could put the little one to bed and continue to enjoy ourselves in the living space. We appreciated the small touches--the tile floor, granite dining table, nice lanai furniture, decorations, the Pack 'n Play style cribs (were are much better than any other cribs we've utilized in other hotels) and the delicious smelling soaps (coconut scented). The amenities were also phenomenal. We utilized the pools extensively. There are three different pool areas--one that's directed towards kids, one that's open to all with two hot tubs and two pools (one infinity), and one adults-only pool area with a beautiful infinity pool. One small complaint is that the kids pool was FREEZING while we were there, but the others were totally comfortable. There were plenty of chairs and a ton of umbrellas. We strolled on the beach walk almost every day and saw whales in the distance. There is a great departure lounge that guests with a late flight can use--it has some comfortable couches, showers, and even bathing suit dryers (a really nice touch). We made use of both on-site restaurants, the Whale's Tale Cafe, the food truck near the kids pool, the Starbucks for a cheap breakfast, and the on-site convenience store. There was also a game room available, though we didn't check this out. I've seen some complaints about the resort fee on TripAdvisor, but I felt it was reasonable for the amenities available and totally in line with other hotels we've stayed at in Hawaii. The location is stellar. Though it's not technically beach front (thought it is ocean front), you can walk to two different beaches in less than five minutes, and we were able to get free beach chairs with my husband's Marriott status. It's a two minute walk to the Shops at Wailea, where you can do some shopping, grab an ice cream, score some lunch for the beach at a gourmet market, and get dinner. There are just a few very minor things that could be improved to make this hotel top-notch. As I mentioned, the kids pool was cold--it would be great if they could get that to a more comfortable temperature. The hotel still had a bit of construction happening, which resulted in one of the elevators in the Haleakala building being down for service. Given that this is the largest building, having only one elevator working in the main elevator area made for long waits. There was an additional elevator in separate area of that building that was also under maintenance much of the time we were there. This elevator was the only one that went to the ground level, and since we had a stroller, not being able to get off in an area that didn't require climbing stairs was a bit of a bummer. The high top chairs in eoon made a racket--they made a huge screeching noise when you moved them and we could regularly hear the room above us moving the chairs around. Some felt pads would fix this problem. The tiles in the lobby got really slippery when wet, which was a bit hazardous when it rained. The parking spaces were TINY--our small rental Jeep barely fit in the space provided. Sometimes, we were literally not able to get the car seat out of the car because the car next to us was parked so close. Given the price for parking, it would be great if the garage could be a little more user friendly. Finally, it would be nice if this Marriott offered some of amenities to platinum clients that are available at some other hotels (SPG, Hilton, etc). There was no platinum lounge, welcome gift, or free breakfast. We really missed that and have enjoyed such extras at other island hotels. One other item worth noting--because the hotel is located on an area where the ground drops off to the ocean and the hotel is made up of multiple unconnected buildings, it can be hard to navigate (especially with a stroller). The one working elevator that we found that went to the ground level dropped you off in the fancy restaurant onsite, and we were embarrassed the few times we went had to go through the dining room with out stroller to avoid stairs on the way to our room. If you're able-bodied and aren't navigating with a stroller, I don't think this is really a problem, but it was definitely tricky for us. I'd definitely recommend this hotel, and we'll likely stay here again next time we're in Maui. We stayed at the nearby Fairmont a few years back and thought this hotel gave that one a run for it's money despite the disparity in TripAdvisor rating!
