"Amazing, Modern, Beautiful Property"
We heard that this hotel went through a major renovation and it shows! At the moment we pulled into the driveway, we knew we would love it. The hotel has an open floorplan with modern and comfortable upscale furnishings but still in an island vibe. You can't help but relax here. The rooms are very nice and pleasing (don't forget that there is a Nespreso coffee maker in the TV dresser/cabinet), the bathroom is large to accommodate several of us at the vanity counter, and the bed was so comfortable. The property has four pools and we spent most of our time at the Infinity pool with Jacuzzi's and the adults-only pool. There's a couple places to eat. The casual café/restaurant near the pool was adequate with a limited menu but great for hanging out with friends. The restaurant Humble Market Kitchin was fun and a great place for breakfast. And if you have time, book a spa treatment at Mandara. It was well worth it. We will definitely come here again. Our trip was too short. I would have given my review 5 stars but we did have some check-in hiccups and inconsistent information from some staff members (could have been a little more accommodating and friendlier) but overall, the staff was on top of everything and willing to help.
"Excellent customer service , beautiful infinity pools , rooms with spectacular views "
The location - in Wailea area, right next to the shops at Wailea. Very convenient. The lobby / public area - very spacious , beautifully decorated , lots f nice space to lounge around . The rooms - as a gold member , I got upgraded to a premium ocean view room . I loved the view from room 4620 - simply spectacular, with gorgeous sunset views every evening . The room itself is fairly spacious , with comfortable beds. The customer service - very very good . I would not hesitate to stay here again. I only had one thing to complain about this property - in addition to daily resort fee of $25, I had to pay $25 a day for self parking . It would be nice if the $25 resort fee includes parking as well , like some other Hawaiian properties ...
"We'll Be Back...Not soon Enough..Sigh..."
This was my second stay at the hotel. My first stay was before the major remodel on the property. When we decided to visit Maui again, we knew we wanted to stay in Wailea but couldn’t decide whether to book the Marriott again or try the Grand Wailea. Price was one consideration, but the recent reviews for the remodeled Marriott were so good (in some cases better than the Grand) that we decided to book it again. 100% Happy with that decision and will return again. The Pros: - The property is gorgeous, manicured landscaping, very clean common areas! Staff is always friendly and responsive! - Housekeeping: Excellent, the only thing they forgot was to restock the paper cups for coffee and to leave TWO large bath towels (2 guests in the room. When I called for mor cups someone was at my door in what seemed like seconds. Also, I did notice some ants in the room at the end of the stay. - Food: We ate once at the morning breakfast buffet. It’s decent but pricey (as are most hotel buffets). Not really worth the money in my opinion. 5 stars for having gluten free bread by request, 1 star for burning it. We did not eat dinner on the property, or at any of the nearby hotels, we found all the menus a bit limited on top of my gluten free requirements. Humble Kitchen said they use Tamari, which is great, but the side dishes were not gluten free (example:forbidden rice) - The beach is a bit of a trek from the hotel as others have noted but the chair and umbrella service (included in your resort fee) is awesome! You're enjoying the exact same beach as guests at The Grand and for less money! Remember to bring drinking water to the beach. Also, you'll have to either use the restrooms at the Grand or walk back to the Whales Tale or the hotel. Cons: - My small complaints about this property are small and relate to things that they can’t change. It’s an older structure, they couldn’t change that in their remodel. The premium ocean front tower rooms have some view obstruction due to the staggered design (i.e it's a straight ahead view, not pano). - The elevator in the tower appears to have been a service elevator. It’s slow and then stops at just about every floor for house keeping staff. They don’t get in if you're on board but it slows you down. They really needed more elevators in a hotel this size (the tower). - The parking spaces in the $25/day lot are too small and people often take 2 spaces. We took our car out every day to get lunch or dinner and it was a challenge to find a spot when we got back. - The Pool(s) - The new family friendly pool with the slides is awesome. The Serenity pool is my favorite. It's limited in space and the staff does a good job enforcing a "use it or loose it" policy. If you drop a towel and leave for breakfast or a snorkel you’ll likely come back to someone else lounging in the chair. Unfortunately this policy is NOT enforced at the Ohi pools (near the restaurant) and it should be! While there are plenty of chairs there, people get "proprietary" with the premium spots. For the entire week that I was there, I woke up at 6am and could see from my room towels already “saving†the ocean front chairs. At 10am, still no one sitting in the chairs. Frustrating. My other problem with that pool was the loud music/location of the speakers. The music began in the morning when I was looking to enjoy the view and read, not be blown out of my chair by the music. The Grand Wailea is GORGEOUS! I get why people love it, especially families. But the pool that faces the beach had way too many kids (Last week on August) and I was looking for an adult vacation. I’m happy with my decision to stay at the Marriott again. I’d give our stay a 4.5 out of 5!
Beautiful hotel. Love the open air lobby. Lovely grounds. Easy and fast check-in. Clean rooms with nice decor. While we had some ocean view we overlooked the rooftop of the open lobby below. Being on the 8th floor did help to overlook that. Beautiful pools especially the infinity pool but be careful, the deck is made of slick slate. It is extremely hot and very slippery when wet. I slid and hit my knee on the tile. The black picky mat they have down is very uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. There is no beach right at the hotel. You have to walk down a path a little way to reach a small beach area.Restaurants in hotel are very pricey but you are close enough to walk to shops and restaurants a little less expensive. There is even a grocery store. About a two block walk to an Urgent Care and Golf Course. Yes, they are located in the same area. A little further and there is another restaurant. We drove because it was so hot and humid but you could probably walk. The staff is very friendly and offer golf cart rides to the nearby shopping square. Check out was as easy as check-in. Gave only 4 stars due to the pool decking and no beach.
A wonderful experience with a gorgeous ocean view. We booked a ground floor extended lanai with a beautiful view of the ocean. We are platinum Marriott members and received several small gifts including a flower lei, macadamia nut chocolates, sunscreen, shortbread cookies (from Honolulu cookie co) and towels. It's the little things like this that make you feel special on your honeymoon. The grounds were well manicured and exuded a relaxing atmosphere. The Humble Kitchen is one of the top restaurants in Wailea and had exceptional appetizers and breakfast menu. We want to return during whale season which is nov-march. Evidently, you can watch the whales from the adult-only infinity pool. We were told that the turtles breed outside of our hotel room unfortunately we weren't told this until the day we were checking out :/. Overall it was a great stress-free experience and we hope to return someday during whale watching season.
