"Perfect locale with an awesome gym perk! "
I've visited NYC multiple times, but this was my first stay at 6 Columbus....Im usually skeptical of "boutique" hotels in NYC, As they are often lipstick on an old out, but I was so pleasantly surprised by the accommodations, super friendly staff, and the awesome perk of a day pass membership to Equinox gym in Columbus Circle. For those who like to build in a solid workout when you travel, this is the absolute best arrangement. The beds were super comfy, the bathroom had heated floors, and the lighting/window treatments allowed for dim lighting and blocking out the sun, if you want to sleep in/take a nap. The restaurant downstairs has delicious sushi. If you want to have a quick bite and cocktail before going out on the town, it's a perfect option. Can't wait to stay there again!
"A great little place in a wonderful location!"
This is a lovely little hotel. The rooms are small and the bathrooms could do with better lighting, but the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth the price! And it is in a great location for shopping, bars, restaurants and Central Park.
I try to only write positive reviews, unless I feel obligated to warn fellow travellers. I've stayed in hotels all over the world and this is one of the few times I've felt compelled to complain. I can overlook a certain amount of grubbiness, but the least a hotel can do is provide basic amenities. If they fail to do that, or if there's a problem, then the management should act swiftly, apologetically, and graciously offer to compensate the traveller's discomfort instead of being dismissive, ineffective and neglectful. There are dozens of better, more conscientious establishments in New York – save yourself a headache.
"Cannot beat the location!!!"
I chose this hotel because of it's proximity to the Subway and Central Park. The subway is literally across the street, and the park is like a block away. As a woman traveling solo for the weekend, I wasn't sure what to expect. The pictures online make the hotel look very dark, and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the atmosphere. The hotel is very dark, and modern. However I felt very comfortable there the whole time. They have a sushi bar in the lobby, but I only went down for a glass of wine and it was wonderful. The bed was super comfortable! The room had a huge bath tub (huge for hotels these days anyway, it was a tall tub). I swear the floors in the bathroom were heated! My view was less than stellar, I was facing another rooftop, but other than that, the room was great! The front desk even held my luggage for me since I arrived around 11am, and my check in wasn't until 4. There is also a café I wanted to try on 59th just south of Columbus (it was closed the day I went there), and there was a Dunkin Donuts less than a block away, basically if you walk around the block its behind the hotel.
"Good boutique hotel - but it needs some service upgrades."
Room wasn't ready when I arrived after checkin time. Took another hour, but I was comped a glass of wine in the bar. That's cool. The room size was great, plus a nice small terrace, but it was winter so I didn't use it. Blue Ribbon Sushi restaurant and bar are quite good. But, a large HVAC vent blew of the wall in middle of the night, crashed to the floor, woke me up startled, scared and confused. Rough time sleeping after that. Took two days for them to repair it correctly. There was no hot water at 5:30 am the day I was departing... manager told me he didn't make his rounds early enough to check the hot water boiler and reset it. No excuses! Too late for my early am flight out of LGA so I had to take a cold shower on a cold morning. Oh yeah, the maid service was inconsistent. Thing is, I love the size of the hotel, the location is perfect for me, the restaurant, Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar is great - with more to eat than just sushi. No coffee service in the room is a pain (its a darn good thing there is a Starbucks next door) and most of the staff are very helpful and accommodating - but not all of them. I might stay here again or recommend the hotel to a friend, because there are definite positives - but this particular stay was a nightmare. Brrrr... I'm still cold from that cold shower!!!
