Having stayed at the Luxor a few years ago and found it an excellent hotel I came back to stay here again with my friends. Very disappointed with the hotel this time. Our initial room had no shower head in so we got moved rooms the following day. Unfortunately they had to do this after 11:30, so our plans for the day were thrown out. They did comp us two days resort fees which was a nice gesture but can’t compensate for a heavily disrupted day. Whilst I appreciate that construction work is ongoing a room shouldn’t have been let which wasn’t complete. We were in a group of 8, so across 4 rooms. We were told all the rooms would be near each other. 3 of the rooms were, the fourth was in the other tower. They Luxor also has construction work ongoing at the moment which meant that for the tower we were staying in the easy route to the lifts was closed so we had to take a long detour every time we got dropped st the main entrance. Again not a deal breaker but still annoyance when you are paying $30 a day in resort fees on top of the room cost! We also had problems with our tv remotes, another room in our group had there wardrobe door come off due to not having enough screws in it. Housekeeping staff also had a habit of shouting to each other, but at 8:00 in the morning in a party heavy area when you have do not disturb signs down the corridor isn’t great. When it came to check out the electronic check out wouldn’t work so I had to go to the desk. The problem was they didn’t even have a desk open for checking out so you had to go to the check in desks. Rick who dealt with my query was excellent however having to queue for 20 mins because of a mechanical error isn’t great. The bars in the hotel are massively over priced in comparison to the ones that can be found just by going up an escalator to the Mandalay bay shoppes.

"The Luxor is no longer luxurious in my eyes"

We checked in at 1:15AM. When we got to our room, we dropped off our belongings and went to grab a bite to eat. At 2:15AM, we went back to the room and got ready for bed. I turned on the faucet and the water stream was weak. I thought it was just low pressure and turned it off after I wet and soaped up a washcloth. I lathered my face and when I turned the water on to rinse my face off, there wasn't any water! I tried to keep my eyes closed to keep the soap out of them. I went over by the tub and turned the water in the tub-no water. I walked over to the shower and turned the shower on- no water. I yelled to my husband to bring me a bottle of water so I could rinse my face off because now my eyes were on fire. He then called the front desk and he was transferred over to maintenance. He was told that during the renovation on Thursday mornings between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. they turn the water off. He proceeded to tell the maintenance person that we needed to have water in the room and we were directed to go back down to the registration desk so we could change rooms. My husband asked to talk to the night manager. When the night manager came out and my husband explained the situation to him and told him the clerk failed to inform us that the water would be turned off, the manager seemed totally unconcerned that we had no water and that my eyes were bright red, tearing and on fire. He looked up our room and said "Well sir, you booked a run of the house room and there was a notification on your TV". I don't know of anybody that goes to Las Vegas and upon checking into their room turns their TV on immediately! We were finally given a new room at 3:15 a.m. after my husband insisted that we needed a room with running water. The manager did offer to pay for my bottle of water that I had to use to rinse my face off! How generous of him. He didn't offer anything else to compensate me for my two eyes that were as red as a stop sign. During the night, I knocked my bottle of water off the nightstand. I reached under the bed to get it. Instead of grabbing my water bottle, I grabbed somebody else's dirty sock that the maid didn't find. We've been to the Luxor a number of times and it was awesome. This time, it was terrible and we have no desire to ever return.

"very clean, modern, soft beds, and overall comfortable"

One thing that set this room aside from others was the shower AND tub, which were separate. The tub was huge and after all the walking from Casino to Casino (Which is covered and also has a tram) you will enjoy the tub. Maid service was great, staff was helpful. I would have liked to have a smart TV so that I could log into my own channels and that option was blocked in my room. The room does not have a coffee maker or coffee and the Starbucks lines are LONG, so be prepared. The pool was under construction but we were allowed to use Mandalay. Other than that, everything was awesome. Would stay here again.

"Average hotel on the south end of the strip."

Pros: - Mobile Check-In: We booked direct and were able to utilize this feature. Much like checking in for a flight, it was available the night before and we entered our estimated arrival time. Although check-in was 3pm, we received an e-mail around 10:30am noting that our room was ready. We used the kiosk at the front desk and were checked in very fast. The ONLY downside was that the kiosk gave us the wrong room keys. We received cards for the tower rooms when we were, in fact, staying in the Pyramid. This was a benefit considering the check-in/check-out lines were very busy each time we were in the lobby. -Our room was clean upon arrival and had easy access to wifi. Cons: Resort Fee - not sure what benefits we receive from paying this... Rooms don't have a fridge, no microwave, no coffee pot, limited towels, no extra blankets/robes in the wardrobe, dated furniture/beds, shower only (no bathtub). A/C unit and Bathroom fans were very loud. Amenities: note you are provided with conditioning shampoo, lotion and one bar of soap. Overall, I will note that the cons I listed appear to apply to all of the hotels on the strip. Service has declined and costs have risen in Vegas. It seems hard to find rooms with coffee makers/refrigerators/microwaves unless you pay extra for an upgraded room or pay extra to add them to your room (sometimes around $25 a night). The resort fee while noted as costly was only noted as such cause it is unclear what this cost covers.. overall it appeared to be average when compared to other hotels on the strip.

"surprised myself"

America in general , and in particular Las Vegas has never been on my bucket list . However my brother in law and his fiancé decided to get married there and as my husband was to be best man we were kinda obliged to go. The flight over from Glasgow went by quickly and on arrival I found no sign of any of the dreaded jet lag , however the passport checks took for ever , the transfer to the hotel was quick and painless the taxi driver pleasant and chatty on arriving at the Luxor I was immediately struck by the building itself , who thinks up these things ? The room we had been allocated was far from the rest of the wedding party so we asked to change and got an upgrade to a tower room , much nicer and better view than those in the pyramid itself , staff were uber helpful and friendly. So as I expected Las Vegas is tacky town with bells and whistles but you kinda get drawn into the whole feel of the place and before long I was giving it high fives to my gambling companions at the table , none of whom I had ever met before yet they treated me like a long lost pal. The drinks are free whilst you sit at the tables and there are enough places to eat that you need never become bored , although some of the restaurants are outrageously pricy the same as anywhere you travel to you don't have to use these places . I had the biggest lobster I've ever seen at the wedding breakfast , served to me by a Robert di Niro look alike who was so convincing I thought Bob's acting career had dried up after making the Fokkers !!!The wedding itself at "the little white chapel" , how many of these are there? was tacky , tacky , blingy , blingy and there was of course an Elvis thrown in for good measure. But you know what , they were taking the mickey out of Vegas, enjoying themselves and while weddings can sometimes be a little sombre this was anything but and whilst it's certainly not every one's cup of tea we had a ball , I guess it's like every other holiday it's your time for fun , make your own way enjoy what you like and make the most of it as I said at the start I NEVER would have chosen Vegas as a holiday destination but since the wedding trip I've been back once and am planning a return trip this year . So much for pre- conceived ideas
