"Happy Stay at Mandalay Bay"

I got a great deal on a flight from Nashville to San Francisco, and it had an overnight layover in Las Vegas. Wanting to make the best of it, I utilized a semi-opaque-bidding website for a hotel room. I booked a 4-star mystery room on the south strip for $42 (plus tax and resort fee, making the actual total $86). My cheater websites indicated it would likely be Mandalay Bay, and they were correct! I was very pleased with my savvy bidding, and was even more pleased with my actual experience at the hotel. Arriving at the airport, I caught a strip shuttle van for $8, which, after dropping off three other parties, took me right to the front entrance of Mandalay Bay. The ride took about 15 minutes. Check-in was easy; no waiting on a November Monday evening (off season weekday). A note about elevators: There are three separate sets of elevators, each serving a particular range of floors. You need to find the set that will take you to your specific floor. (I thought it was a smart way to provide quicker access to the rooms and less crowding.) When I book through third-party websites, I expect to receive a less popular but good room, usually without a nice view. Mandalay Bay gave me an outstanding room, on the 26th floor (about half way up), on the quieter side of the hotel (no airport noise), with a great view of Luxor, Delano, and part of the strip. The room was contemporary, chic, and luxurious, with glass-topped dresser, desk, and bedside table. Two armchairs provided seating near the floor-to-ceiling windows. An adequate number of electrical outlets and pretty good wifi helped with the use of electronic devices. Dual closets, housing a room safe and ironing board, framed the entrance to the luxurious bathroom, which had separate tub and glass-enclosed shower. A light-framed mirror overlooked dual sinks. Kuer soaps and shampoos were provided, as well as a hair dryer. My only complaint with the bathroom (one common for me) is that there was no bathroom ventilation fan. A full-length mirror can be found just inside the room's door. I was pleased that the room smelled like--nothing! No cigarette smell, nor was there any perfume-y scent masking other odors. In-room coffee is available for a hefty price (I think about $5.00); not worth it for less-than-ideal coffee. I opted to wait until later in the morning for my coffee fix. (There's a Starbucks on the casino floor.) Be careful not to pick up any of the food or drink items on the dresser or in the mini-fridge; the sensors will charge the item to your room bill. Room service food is available for ridiculous prices, which is normal for hotels. The property's pool complex was closed for the season when I was there. The front desk told me that one pool with a jacuzzi was open, but I didn't take the time to go there. The fitness center consisted of perhaps a dozen treadmills, some stationary bikes, and step machines, as well as some free weights. I was a bit disappointed with the fitness room; I had expected a locker room with steam room and showers. The grounds of the hotel are extensive, encompassing perhaps a whole city block. Numerous restaurants and bars permeate the casino area. I only ate at the buffet for breakfast, and was quite pleased with it (see my separate review). A free shuttle tram runs between Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur. The track on the west stops at all three, the eastern line is express from Mandalay to the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana Ave, making the New York, MGM, and Tropicana casinos easily accessible. You can also catch the Deuce bus on Las Vegas Blvd, which will take you up and down the strip to any of the other casinos. (I think the day pass for that one is $6.) Rather than returning to the airport by the shuttle van, I caught the local WAX bus from near the corner of LV Blvd and Trop Ave, which cost me $4.00 and took about 10 minutes once aboard (that bus line runs about hourly). Thus I did my whole overnight trip without the use of taxis or a rental car--inexpensive and convenient.

"Wow, my first visit to Las Vegas!"

Couldn't have stayed at a more impressive place!!! Stayed with 4,500 other employees and it was just impressive!! This place is big enough it probably has its own zip code. Nice clean rooms, great friendly staff, wonderful resort!!!!

"First time in Vegas"

It was our first time in Las Vegas so I have nothing to compare this hotel with other Hotels down the strip. Experience in Vegas great! It would have been nice if our room was facing the Vegas trip but overall the room was nice but didn't get the king size bed because of our late check-in on Wednesday night.

"End of the Strip"

I would not recommend this hotel. The hotel itself was clean and the beds were ok, however, the pillows were large foam pillows and thus very uncomfortable. The towels are old and stiff as well, not what you would expect at a resort hotel. We stayed here because the hotel was close to the T-Mobile center but what we didn't realize was the surrounding restaurants are not very good. The majority of the restaurants in the hotel are very average at best, accompanied by poor service at an average price of $30+ per person. Stay in the heart of the strip and get a Lyft to this area if you want to attend a concert or show on this end of the strip.

"Nice Hotel - Great view of the strip"

We visited Las Vegas for the first time and stayed at Mandalay Bay. We had an excellent view of the strip from our room. The room was very clean and comfortable. It was a Monday thru Thursday stay and it was not very busy. The service fees were a surprise for us and we thought them a bit high. The tram to the Luxor and Excalibur was nice to have as there is a lot of walking in the hotel and in Las Vegas on the strip. We plan on going back for a longer stay and looking forward to it!
