"Overall not a bad, but my room was very poor"
For those who want the "too long, didn't read" version: the hotel is fairly nice, but I highly recommend that you avoid rooms with internal adjoining doors. I have stayed at most of MGM's properties in Vegas, including Aria and MGM Signature. Before my trip to Mandalay Bay in late November 2017, I had high hopes. I am loyal to MGM, for the past three years, I was a gold member with M Life. I didn't hit minimum spend in MGM's fiscal year 2017 because I had a car accident early this year that prevented me from traveling until late fall 2017. Good: 1) The check-in experience was fast and smooth. Luzina (not sure of spelling) checked me in, and it was one of the most pleasant check-in experiences I've ever had. I used to work in a Hilton as an MOD, and I know a good check-in when I see it. 2) Staff: The other staff with whom I interacted were friendly, especially the staff in the Starbucks (near conference center), Seabreeze Cafe, the gift shop, and the little food/drink shop. 3) Casino: I found the casino to be fun, and well designed. 4) Bathroom: The bathroom in my room was very clean, and large. 5) Seabreeze Cafe: Great food and great service! 6) Cardio room: The cardio room was nice. Neutral: 1) Security: I felt like the security staff was a little over zealous, but given the circumstances, I was understanding. I've stayed at many MGM properties, as I noted, and this is the first one where I had to show my keys every single time before getting on the elevator. The bad: 1) Adjoining room: I booked a king room, but (to my surprise) a king was not available at check-in. I was understanding about this because, as I mentioned, I used to work in a 300-room hotel, and in a normal-sized hotel, room types are often unavailable. With the Mandalay having thousands of rooms, I was surprised, but not upset. I was given an adjoining room (a room that has an internal door that connects to the next room). I've stayed in hundreds of hotel rooms over the years because I travel a lot for work, and, when possible, I try to travel for leisure. I've never seen anything like this. Please see photos. The adjoining door had an approx. 3-inch gap from the floor to the bottom of the door. I actually checked-in at the same time as the people who were in the connected room (I didn't know these people). Since they were in their 30s, I thought that they'd be quiet, so I didn't advise the front desk of my concerns over the gap under the adjoining door. The door's gap allowed sound and light from the adjoining room to come into my room. I actually had to cover the gap with a pillow to block the light so I could sleep. I could also clearly hear the conversations that my neighbors had when they were near the adjoining door. I reported this to the hotel through their direct survey website after I checked-out. I've given the hotel sufficient time to address this privately, and I've heard nothing. So, I am leaving a public review. 2) Wi-fi: The wi-fi was slow. 3) Elevators: The elevators were incredibly slow.
"Good hotel but overpriced "
I stayed here with my fiancé for a convention. I have stayed at other properties in Vegas and felt that the price paid was way too high even at the convention rate for the size of the room. Check in for us was a breeze but I saw very long lines on other days. I opted to do the quick check out option as the line was 50 people deep. They have a ton of elevators so you don’t have to wait long. There are security guards posted at each elevator bay and you have to show your room key to pass. The room was smaller than I expected but the bathroom was huge with double sinks and a separate toilet with a door and shower and soaking tub. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Out of four days housekeeping did not come at all one Day I am not sure why but when they did they did a good job but often not coming until after 2:00 pm. The room has a coffee maker but you have to pay for the coffee to go in it as well as the filters and cups. For the 30.00 a day resort fee I expected a bit more. Even Days Inn has free coffee! There was a fridge in the room but you had to use a mini bar code to open it so keeping waters or sodas cold was not possible. The walls were a bit thin so if you are a light sleeper that and the airplane noise may bother you. The wi Fi is excellent and it does not kick you off daily like some hotels. It was free and fast. The room temperature was easy to control and comfortable and the HVAC was quiet. The hotel and casino were not as smoky as others although smoking was allowed. They pump a very strong smelling deodorizer into the hallways which is a bit overpowering. The walk to the convention center was way too far! Overall everyone we encountered was friendly. I would say you can get a much cheaper room equal or better than here elsewhere in Vegas so unless you are at a convention I would shop around.
"Nice place to stay, but staff needs to be better"
Came to the Mandalay Bay for a work Gala, the event was fantastic. They paid for two day and I reserved the same room for additional two days. This is where things start to annoy me, so I reserved a king resort room because my wife is 8 months pregnant. When I went to check in the clerk told me that they didn’t have anymore king rooms and that we would have to stay in a double queen. After about 5 minutes pleading with the lady to give us a king room she did. Then I explain that my company was paying for two nights and I was paying for two nights, a total of four nights. They lady confirmed and showed me the information. On the third day my room key stopped working, I went to the front desk and the young man explained that I was accidentally checked out, he confirmed that I still had two more nights. The following day again the room key does not work and I have several bags in my hand at my room door. Back down to the desk I go, when I get there and explain to the young lady at the front desk about the key, she was very nasty and condescending. And she told me that I only paid for one night, I explained that this is the first time I was told that I only paid for one night. I also explained that I didn’t have time to go back and forth her and that I was missing a show because of this inconvenience. She didn’t care and just said I need your ID. I had it too her and she handed me two new room keys and said sarcastically “have a good night†no apology, no sorry for your inconvenience nothing. Up until that point I was having a great stay, after that I just wanted to leave. I did not feel appreciated at all. I will be back to Las Vegas, I might stay else where next time. I would rate this place higher if this would not have happened
"Mandalay Bay a 10!!"
It was our first time staying at the Mandalay Bay Resort. It was amazing! The weather was great everyday! The staff went out of their way to take care of all our needs. We were upgraded to a wonderful room!! We were on the 30th floor..Though I was a little worried about what had happened a few weeks before, with the shooting and all, so so sad, we were totally comfortable, felt very safe. Mandalay Bay had a huge banner on the top floor, on their hotel that read Vegas Strong! Very Impressive! You could see this from everywhere. Their housekeeping staff was excellent! Their lazy river was great. We used it everyday!! Wave pool was great, always had lots of lifeguards around! We were very touched with the way all the retail stores and employees in Las Vegas took care of business! It became very important to them, to make sure that "Vegas Strong" was real and affected them all. The food at the stratosphere was outstanding! We are going back for sure! Way to go Las Vegas!! .
"Good hotel, parking is a joke! "
We got two rooms using are my Vegas rewards at Mandalay Bay. The check-in process was easy. The lady at the front desk helping us was nice but was very unreceptive to our $20 tip that we gave her as we asked for a complimentary upgrade and she basically just snubbed us. We stayed there for 3 nights and had to come down after the first night because our key cards on both rooms stopped working. We were able to get our keys fixed pretty quickly. The rooms were clean and roomy no complaints there. The hotel hallways elevators and surrounding areas were kept nice and clean and are very well kept. Our biggest issue which doesn't reflect on Mandalay Bay but MGM, Was the fees for parking. What a joke. The gal who checked us in forgot to tell us we could tie the parking to the room to pay like some flat $12 fee. This should be good at all MGM properties. We ended up paying around $80 for parking fees between is three casinos that we visited. They ended up for funding our Resort fees due to the miscommunication. So all in all they did make it right but it was still a huge mistake on their part by not offering or telling us or asking if we had a rental car.
