"Good, but could be better"
Stayed 2 nights. The convention center is adjacent to the hotel. Check-in was quick, efficient and friendly. Dominique had some good recommendations for the surrounding area, some of which were within walking distance. Was told my room had recently been renovated. Room was nice size and clean. Bathroom was small, as was the tub. The "vanity" was actually the mirror above the bathroom sink. Room was cool during the day, but warm at night, and I could not get it to cool to the temp it was during the day. The desk had USB and power outlet easily accessible, but the desk chair was stationery and heavy, making it a bit difficult to move on carpet. The bed was very comfortable, and both night stands had 2 USB ports and power outlets on the front-face. There was a wardrobe that served as the closet to hang clothes, but no drawers for other clothing. It had a small refrigerator, but it did not seem cold and did not see any means of making it cooler if I had wanted to use it. The black-out curtains overlapped to the extent that the room could be completely darkened. Overall it was a nice stay.
"Good hotel.. well placed"
We stayed here for one night as part of a tour of California. This was one of eight hotels we stayed in during our holiday and this was one of the best. On entering the hotel, you are impressed by the large, clean, well designed cool foyer. The staff were helpful on check in, particularly with regards the room and local attractions. Once in the room however, they did let themselves down a bit by taking too long to fix the safe which was stuck in the locked position.... and this is the problem with hotels that set a higher standard, as a paying customer you're less forgiving of small imperfections. The room itself though was spacious and well equipped, although the coffee machine only worked when it chose to! There was a great restroom area.. really comfortable bed; and a lovely pool, with plenty of room and appeared to be adults only. Finally, the hotel only charged $12 to park and was well placed for the stylish downtown Palm Springs. I would like to have stayed here longer.
"Good but not great"
Had a business conference at this hotel. Had a suite on the first floor. Room was very nice. Bed was a little soft and it had a down comforter which was a little much for the desert in October. AC only let you lower it to 69 degrees which sounds cold but it wasn't as efficient in the bedroom and we spent our evenings between being to hot and to cold. Bathroom door hinge was broken. But pool, meeting rooms and lobby were great. Centrally located. I would stay here again
"Lacking in customer service"
Like many things in Palm Springs this hotel is showing a bit of age, not bad but not up to it's former standards. It appears that all of the first floor common areas have just gone through a renovation, very nice. Renovation is continuing into the rooms, and here in lies the problem. When I searched for a Marriott property to stay in Palm Springs several of the locations indicated on their websites that renovations were under way. I appreciated that heads ups and specifically selected a location that did not indicate any renovation. I checked in on a Monday and the property was nearly vacant. When I checked my assigned room and opened the drapes the view was of the shiny white industrial roof of an adjacent wing. Why when the property was empty? I politely asked the desk if there were any other options available and was moved to a different room. This room had not been updated yet, which was fine and I had a view of the mountains, perfect. The following morning I was awakened by the sounds of voices at what seemed early in the morning ( I was so looking forward to sleeping in). I tried to go back to sleep but it was not happening so I go up and stared my day. I wrote it off as a one time issue. The next morning the same thing happened, voices, like instructions being given out at 8:15 am. Determined to get more sleep I stayed in bed. The voices turned to thumps, bumps and bangs. In the hallway I found a string of constructions workers with old room furnishing loaded onto wheeled dollies lined up for their turn on the freight elevator which was right across from my room. Later in the day I approached the desk and nicely said I had been woken up two days in a row. The clerk asked at what time and then told me the workers don't start until 9 am as if to say I was hearing things. Then I asked why the noise was so close to my room, the response was oh no, the construction is going on at the far end of another wing, I could not have heard the noise. This was insulting and I was now frustrated. This was Friday and I had one more morning left for R&R. I asked if the crew was scheduled to work Saturday and the response was oh, no - no work on Saturday. Guess what happened Saturday morning - another repeat. The renovations should have been listed on the website, like the other properties did. The front desk should have been apologetic and at least made an attempt to address my concerns instead of trying to deny any issues. Apparently JW Marriott has forgotten the basics of customer service, next time I will try the Hilton.
"Great place to float"
16 hours floating in a pool over two days. 16 hours of drinking skinny margaritas (17 between two women and they made them perfect, tequila, lime juice, and ice!) and eating while floating in the tepid bathroom water-like pool. It was amazing. The room was comfy and the only thing to note is - don't bring oversized pool floaties! Great time in a great place.
