"A true gem."
When I learned I would be heading to San Diego for business, I immediately checked for Kimpton properties, and was thrilled to find the Solamar had availability. Similar to my experiences at other Kimpton properties around the U.S., the staff at the Solamar delivered exceptional service from check-in to check-out: (all of my check-in's and check-out's: I had my stay unexpectedly extended a day thanks to multiple flight delays and the staff at the Solamar was able to accomodate me for an extra night). It is hard beat the service provided by Kayla Howard who is now at the Philly property! She is a complete rockstar and the main reason I search for Kimpton properties when I travel. The staff at the Solamar did a pretty fantastic job! Special thanks to the concierge team who checked in with me regularly to ensure I was comfortable: Anna, Marissa, Luz (I hope I'm not overlooking anyone), Daniel at the J-Six bar and the bell team. The bottle of prosecco and strawberries were a lovely surprise to find, once returning after a very long day! Looking forward to returning soon!
My company held a conference event at this location. At first, I was a little nervous because it was considered a boutique hotel, but once I arrived on site I realized that I had nothing to worry about. The rooms were clean and spacious and the hotel was very well staffed. Any questions I had were easily answered by the front desk staff and I enjoyed having the option to go to the poolside bar with colleagues. There were so many restaurants within walking distance which is needed when you have over 100 people in attendance. The meeting space was light and spacious. The F&B staff were quiet and attentive. It was a great event and I would go back to this venue without a second thought.
"Simply Perfect - Best hotel experience ever"
Being an International conference planner, I book hotels frequently. When I looked into Solamar hotel, their amazing sales manager, MarQuies Willis, was nothing but exceptional. He was patient, cooperative, enthusiastic, factual, patient and flexible. He worked with me like no other hotel sales manager ever has. He not only exceeded my expectation but he made it difficult for other hotel manager to recreate the experience I had with booking Solamar hotel. Solamar does not provides the best contracting experience, but it also offers exceptional service on-site. Located in the heart of Gaslamp, near everything you could possibly need. The warm greeting upon arrival made me smile every single time I stepped into the hotel. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed, modern and spotless. The staff are all very welcoming, efficient and friendly, kindest hotel staff I’ve ever met. The catered food and food served in the restaurant is high-quality and simply amazing. I would go there to eat if I lived in San Diego, and for the times I visit, I will make sure I stay at the Solamar hotel. The conferences and meetings I held there were always executed perfectly, and not even once did I have an unfavorable experience with the Solamar hotel. If all my meetings were held in San Diego, I would make sure to host them at Solamar hotel. All of our clients rave about the food, customer service, location and overall experience they have at Solamar hotel. It’s beyond fabulous and one of the best places I’ve ever stayed, and no other hotel has yet provided me with this type of service and experience. They go above and beyond for their clients, and they make sure your stay become memorable! PS. The roof top terrace and bar is a real plus as well…
"Looks trendy but not comfortable"
We stayed at the Solamar for a few days. My husband had work meetings and we thought we'd tag on a family trip. We didn't actually pick the hotel, the company did for my husband. First I'd like to say, the staff is very nice and accommodating. They do work hard to make you happy. The decor is really trendy. The location and accessibility to everything is perfect. However, when it comes to comfort, they dropped the ball. The rooms are okay. I'd say it's a utilitarian type of room. Basic. The bathroom was small. The shower reminded me of something you'd find at a Hampton Inn or a place along those lines. It just looked cheap. The beds are hard (which I didn't mind). The pillows were horrible! They felt like they were literally stuffed with cotton balls. Not very comfortable for good nights sleep. I saw quite a few people with dogs, so I think it's pet friendly. The restaurant attached, JSix, is nice. We had dinner there and a breakfast. The food was good and they had a great kids menu. They made a great cheese sandwich! They have a variety on their menu so you can get something really nice or a burger. I got the sea bass over a pork adobo... it was ok. For the price and location, I'd say it's a good buy. Maybe not first choice with kids but it can work. Just bring your pillow!
We just checked out of this hotel and wanted to compliment the Hotel Solamar on such a well run business. Every employee we had any contact with was unbelievably professional, friendly and helpful. The housekeeper on our floor (9) was especially friendly and kind. Her name was Shearrie and she is an asset to this business. She truly went the extra mile with her friendliness and joy of life. Thank you so much for a great hotel experience.
