"Love Kimptons"

The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms are very comfortable, well lite, big bathrooms with great towels, safes in room, free wifi in room, coffee bar in morning in lobby, beautiful pool area, and dog friendly. The complimentary happy hour is fun - friendly other guests and a great way to relax .

"Good location, great staff"

I stayed at this hotel for the first time for a business meeting. My room was very nice and the conference room for our meeting was comfortable and just the right size for our group. The staff at the hotel is very friendly and accommodating. Tim at the front desk was a huge help with taking care of a last minute need and went out of his way when he didn't have to. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in downtown SD.

"Average Kimpton Property in a good location"

I have stayed in several Kimpton properties and I would rate this one in the middle in terms of amenities, decor, etc. The rooms, although recently remodeled, remain average compared to some of the other Kimpton properties. The pool area was a nice respite and our server poolside was very friendly and prompt, which we appreciated. The location is likely the best part of this hotel. It's located in the gas lamp, and is an easy walk to all of the local area, including the Marina. I would consider staying again, but would also look at other properties.

"Hip fun hotel with excellent service and fun extras"

This hotel is nice. Prior to my stay Eric was amazing at assisting me in what room would work the best and answered all of my questions. The staff is attentive and warm and we felt very welcomed from the minute we arrived. Q at the front desk was fantastic. Our room was lovely. It felt huge. We were on the 10th floor in a corner spa room with a view of Petco Park. Some comments mentioned that it was noisy. I am really sensitive to noise and my husband had an early morning class but the noise didn’t bother me at all. Of course there is the occasional motorcycle but nothing major. And it makes you feel alive in the city with the hustle and bustle. I am sure being on the top floor helped with any possible noise issues. The spa tub with the jets was divine. I could have stayed in it all day. The windows were spectacular and let it so much natural light. The shades are also great if you don’t like the light. They have a wonderful complimentary tea, coffee, and hot chocolate service in the mornings and in the evenings they have a wine and beer reception with their own wines and draft beers and appetizers. It was absolutely wonderful. The living room setting was nice and relaxed too. They also always have cucumber and lemon water in the lobby. They just have so many little extra personal touches. Another thing they do is contact you ahead of time to ask for a picture of a loved one you left behind on your trip that you miss. I sent them a picture of our dog and they put it in a really cute handmade frame and wrote cutest face ever on it. I love all the karma rewards perks. If you are a karma rewards member you get to raid the mini bar as they call it. They give you a $10 voucher towards mini bar items or a drink at the bar. What is also great is you can take the items out of the mini bar and bring your own items. There are no sensors. This was fantastic to save money and we could bring yogurt for breakfast. You also get free wi fi if you are a karma member. The room is stocked with a yoga mat, umbrella, a safe, and robes. If you forget anything they have it. The bed was super comfy too. They offer yoga classes as well but they told me it was only on Sunday so it wasn’t while we were there. It would be nice if they had the classes on multiple days. I also don’t recommend the restaurant Jsix. It was ok but was not a good value for money and there are many other cool places in the gas lamp district like Café 21. Also when we went to Jsix it was closed for a private party so we could only sit at the bar and they had a limited menu and no dessert. It made us feel unwelcomed as hotel guests. The pool lounge, lounge 6, was closed the next day when we went to eat there for a private party as well. The fitness center is 24 hours. The hotel just went through a re model but it wasn’t a complete remodel. The bathtub tiles were cracked and other elements were not new and seemed cheaply done, but it was still nice. I spilled water in the bathroom and when I wiped it up with tissue the tissue was completely black so that was not fun. The floor looks clean but it definitely wasn’t. The desk was dusty as well. We were also charged for a mini bar item that we did not take but were refunded when I called about it. The parking is very expensive. When I booked it was $47 a night but when we stayed it had gone up to $49. Sometimes they have packages with discounted parking, which I had so I got $15 off a night on parking, and the AAA rate has discounted parking. A bit of information on the rooms. All rooms that do not specify a spa tub have a shower/tub combo. The virtuoso suite also has a shower/bath combo but the Master’s suite has a spa tub. I am not sure about the shower/tub situation in the Luna suite. I do know that the Luna suite is on the pool level with a patio so if you are into noisy pool parties it is perfect but if not that may not be the right room for you. The skyline rooms are on high floors and all of the other rooms are scattered throughout the hotel so they could be on any level. All and all we had a great time and would stay again if the price were right. I also recommend their sister property the Hotel Palomar. We stayed there last time and had a wonderful time and we have a future visit planned there for April.

"Great location"

Enjoyed our visit and service was great! Appreciated the good restaurant recommendations from the front desk staff. Got the corner room on the 10th floor overlooking Petco park which was a bonus. The huge bathroom and super deep bathtub was awesome. Special shout out for Tina who was our room attendant who left us personal notes each day after servicing our room. Loved the proximity in the gas lamp, we could walk to so many things. We would stay here again when visiting SD again.
