"Modern hotel in downtown area"

   17-01-2017
Stayed here for a family vacation. Pros: - enjoyed the modern, boutique feel - clean, comfy rooms - great roof top pool and bar - lots of restaurants in the area Cons: - pricey parking - better for business travelers or couples - pricey on-site restaurant Good launching point for downtown activities. Not close to the beach. Nice hotel but would stay elsewhere if traveling with the family.

"Say no to room 717"

   17-01-2017
We booked 3 rooms for a 6 night stay over New Years . One of the rooms assigned to us was a virtuoso suite 717. Upon opening the door we were hit with the smell in this room. It was horrible. We tried to open the window at first to air it out. But this didn't help as the windows barely open. Within a few minutes in the room my head began to hurt and my breathing became difficult. It was clear that it was the smell from the room making me sick. As someone who is allergic to mold I soon realized I was having an allergic reaction. We spoke to reception who changed our room to the 7th floor. We learned there had been a terrible flood in that room and everything including the carpets had been soaked. There is something terribly rotten in this room that needs to be addressed and remediated. Someone from Kimpton head office should head over there and address this asap. The issue here is that they knew there was something wrong with this room and they booked us in it. Not cool Kimpton. The housekeeping in this hotel is friendly but lacking. All the mirrors in the 3 rooms were streaked and dirty. There was dust everywhere and the corners in the bathroom were very dirty. On our last night, we arrived to our virtuoso room at 5:30pm to find it had not been cleaned despite the fact we had been out all day. A few minutes later they knocked on the door and asked if we wanted the rooms cleaned. We told them we were not leaving again until 8:00pm. No one showed up to clean the room that night. We never even got fresh towels. Not cool Kimpton. My recommendation is not to upgrade to a suite it is not worth the extra cost and no service advantage. The hotel's location is great, close to everything and the front staff were very friendly and helpful. As were the parking attendants. We also enjoyed the complimentary evening happy hour a couple times and made some out of town friends. Of the 6 people in our party, only 2 used the happy our. 2 teens were not of drinking age and 2 were non-alcohol drinkers, it would be nice for the hotel to offer something for these people as well during the happy hour. Free coffee and tea was provided in the morning and there is also a Starbucks 2 minutes away. There is also a bike rental shop 5 minutes away that we took advantage of. Although the website states they have bikes, they are non-reservable and the 3 bikes they had were always out. One of the reasons we had booked this hotel was due to the outdoor pool/bar area. When we arrived we were informed that it was closed for renovations. Had we known we would have booked a different hotel. On check out the hotel tried to charge us a resort fee that included the use of the pool and bar area. This was an unpleasant surprise. Not cool Kimpton

"Staff & location are the best"

   15-01-2017
Have stayed at many Kimptons and although this was not my favorite Kimpton property, the location is great and the staff is awesome as i have found in all Kimpton properties. Erik at the front desk was most welcoming! Walking distance to all the action in the gas lamp district, convention center, waterfront and Petco Park.

"As usual, Kimpton doesn't disappoint!"

We stayed here on 2 separate one night stays and had a great experience each time. Check in was efficient and friendly. Hotel felt modern/newer with well appointed, comfortable rooms. All staff was friendly. Good location right in heart of gaslamp. We would stay again!

"Comfortable, clean modern hotel"

   07-01-2017
Stayed two nights for a business meeting. Staff was very friendly and my room was very nice. Beautiful decor and very clean. Meeting facilities were very good as well. Definitely would return. Love that Kimpton has free happy hour with wine and snacks.
