Over Cedar Lodge

"Budget stay from YNP"
Couples wkend getaway. After a long day of rainy hiking in YNP we decided to book at the Cedar Lodge BC of the rate. Pluses: about 30 min driving to YNP 140 main gate. Easy to book, reasonable rate for the area we paid under $100 off season, easy to find just off the 140 HWY, checkout 11am, on-site Bar & Grill open from 7-9pm, we felt safe, free parking, friendly staff, beautiful location for property, clean & half of the Lobby is sml grocery set up for snacks or forgotten toiletries. To work on: Wi-fi, cable, contintal breakfast, etc is NOT FREE here. So you save $ from the surrounding lodging but not w/o sacrafice. Our room 142 but my advise, don't stay in any of the 140s especially if it's raining weather BC the drainage system will keep you up all night...Oh yea, there is the fact that 140's are directly ABOVE the Housekeeping Laundry room which is in USE UNTIL 10:00 PM everynight, AYE! Appearance wise the room looked clean but there wasn't a sanitary cover over the remote or toliet which I always look for. The water pressure was bad and the steam made the room humidt which lingered over night. Overall, the bed was comfy & the room served it's purpose. IDk man... if under the same circumstances of being wet & tired I would stay again but would seek a better room. It's too bad the owners haven't modernize the property to match the beautiful location.
"a hotel set in a beautiful remote place"
You don't even notice driving up to the hotel untill it 'spawns' from the Yosemite forest. When you're there you get an authentic lodge feeling at the reception. Don't forget to check out the little trading post. The rooms are really nice, if you have a room on the upper floor opening up to the hills be sure to open you balcony door and enjoy the view. The beds are nice and big. The rooms have every basic needs you might need, like a TV and a fridge. When you need something to eat go to the nearby restaurant and immerse yourself into a authentic 60's diner. Grab a hamburger and relax with a coke or beer. It's a beautiful hotel in a great place on the edge of Yosemite park with a wonderful view.
"Not a good place to stay for Yosemite visit"
Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Yosemite. While the hotel is quite close to the park, it is extremely inconvenient for those who are without private transport. It is $5 per way into the park with the public busses running at either 7AM in the morning or 12PM with the 7AM bus arriving over an hour later at Yosemite, even though it is only 8 miles. For over a $100 a night, the rooms are spacious but the 'kitchenette' is simply a bar sized fridge. The internet is $10 per 24 hours (not included in room price) and laundry services are 7 miles down the road... will not be back...
We chose Cedar Lodge because it is close to Yosemite National Park. It was very reasonably priced although we went during off season. Our stay at Cedar Lodge was comfortable. We asked for a quiet room and were given a room in the back which had a lovely deck and was very quiet. Don't know what it would be like during the high season. The room was a bit small with a king bed. The bed was very comfortable and it had a spacious bathroom. Plenty of closet space for longer stays. There is a small grocery store, restaurant and diner/bar. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay there again.
"The 1950s Seems OK..."
This place is OK. Just an overnight on the way to the park. It's another 40 minutes drive. There are nearer lodges. Very 1950s looking. Staff nice enough but not professional or engaging. Rooms are in blocks. Nice view over the hills. Breakfast and WiFi are not included - and you will likely need the latter as no cell signal. Also a rather scary mountain drive in the dark so maybe arrive in the day... Not a bad place but don't expect a Marriott.
