Het indrukwekkende Yosemite National Park, zo'n 250 kilometer ten oosten van San Francisco in het midden van de Sierra Nevada, is ongetwijfeld een van de absolute toppers tijdens uw rondreis West-Amerika.
"Yosemite lodge & restaurants"
We made reservations for this Lodge with months of anticipation but we were lucky to find a better room the week before our arrival. I called the hotel and they switched us to a "family room" which was great. We were on the second floor just steps from the lobby and dinning areas. The room was big and had different areas: a living room with a sofa bed next to the windows, a dinning table with four chairs, a king size bed and a spacious bunk bed, it had 3 ceiling fans and 3 stand fans which saved us from the evening heat. We loved our room and its location. The dinning areas were not so great. Its restaurant is a little expensive (about $25 per plate) for the ripe of food served, we all had steak which had good flavor and presentation but the sides were not. For better prices and taste I would recommend the dinning place at shuttle stop #4 Degnan Kitchen were prices were more affordable ($12-17) with more variety and good flavor.
"Nice hotel room in a great location"
This is a simple, nice, clean hotel room in a terrific location. The staff was friendly and always willing to give advice. This hotel makes a terrific base camp for day hikes anywhere in the National Park. You can take the shuttle bus (every 20 minutes) from the hotel to all the trail heads in the valley, and can easily drive to most trail heads on the south rim as well as Tioga Pass Road within about an hour. There are two dining options, one typical restaurant and one cafeteria. We just ate at the cafeteria because it was fast and easy. Expect to pay $15 per person per meal even for the cafeteria. This is expensive but reasonable given the location.
"Overpriced and poor equiped rooms in the middle of Yosemite beauty"
Paying $ 280 for a night in dark, poorly equipped rooms is the price to pay if you do not want to drive in and out every day from the park to beat the traffic and get one of few parking spots early morning. You can camp in for few dollars less, or pay $ 500/night at Majestic Lodge to see the beauty of the park. The main access road Ca 41 has construction of couple of places delaying a heavy visitor traffic for hours, so we have decided to pay to stay in the park. If you can visit the park in April or September, otherwise you will face a heavy stream of cars, vans, campers and people throughout.
"Great location in Yosemite Valley"
Yosemite Valley Lodge My husband and I love visiting Yosemite. This is the fourth time we've stayed at Yosemite Valley Lodge (we've also stayed at Housekeeping many many times and at the Majestic Hotel twice). This time we brought family and rented 3 rooms for three nights; thankfully the rooms were right next to each other. The rooms haven't changed much since we first stayed in them in 1996, except they now have a TV and the bathrooms have bene updated. As many others have mentioned there is no air conditioning, only fans. I don't remember the room staying so hot at night, but it was. We were on the ground floor and even with both windows open and the two fan in the room, we didn't sleep very well. Lower Yosemite Falls is a short walk making it easy to visit early in the morning (before the crowds come) or near dusk after the crowds have left. The Lodge is a great location with a food court nearby, and the shuttle to get you around the Valley (once we park our car, we use the shuttle or walk). If you can deal with no air condition it's a great place to stay.
"Very, very busy and getting rather expensive."
Trying to find parking in the park even when you have a confirmed booking is becoming a nightmare. We arrived on Wednesday before the Labor Day weekend and it took us an hour or more to find a parking spot. We had booked nearly a year ahead, asked for an upstairs room in certain type of accomodation of which there are at least a dozen examples, arrived early afternoon well before time they start allocating the room and still did not get what we ask for. This has happen the last 4 or 5 times we have visited the park. On top of this you are staying in a motel room but paying hotel prices which appear to been rising too fast over the last few years. Are they trying to keep the numbers putting the prices up and up. The Park this year in May was quite spectacular, the waterfalls, the lake and the river were the best we have ever seen. Fortunately for us as I doubt we will be back in the park again. To put the cherry on the cake...the pool was not open.. beautifull couple of days, hot, sunny but the pool did not open till the weekend.
