I stayed here for two nights. The room was clean. It had blow dryer, a kitchenette, A/C, Balcony with two chairs, TV. They also have an indoors pool and Jacuzzi, plus and additional jacuzzi outside. The stuff is very friendly and ready to assist quickly. We had an issue with one of the two electric burners and came right away. I also found it a bit difficult to figure out how to properly use the A/C. The only disadvantage I found was the lack of restaurants. There is no other restaurants at or near El Portal. The only choice was their own restaurant and the convenience store within the hotel. The menu is very limited and expensive. The hotel is clean, but if you play close attention to detail, one finds the place in need of an update. I would stay here again, only because of the service, location and price.
"Good and close to everything"
The hotel is a short walk to the falls. We stayed in two different rooms (one with bunk beds and the other a double queen). The rooms are old and rustic but it was clean and quiet. We just wanted a place to sleep and it served that purpose. The food at the lodge is mediocre. The free yosemite shuttle bus stops at this hotel. Overall enjoyed the stay and will stay again.
"Valley Lodge Bar - OK for Drinks - but Food is Mediorce"
Nice place to sit by the fire and have a beverage, but the food was mediocre at best. -A basket of chips and three salsa ($9.00) was average - the tomatillo salsa was good, the other two, not very good. - The philly cheese steak was ground beef and cheese whiz - no onions or peppers. Pretty bad for $12.00 - The Beef chili in a bread bowl ($12.00) was bland. - The Charcuterie plate had a few slices of mortadella and salami, nice fruit, and some cheese ($12.5). Overall - we should have had some beverages there and then gone to the Mountain room to eat. Also note - the wifi did not work.
"Cozy and close to everything!"
This lodge is a short walk from the tallest waterfall in North America. Right out your door you can step on a free bus that stops at all three he significant points throughout the park. The beauty is so awesome and over the top, you are living in a painting or Ansel Adams photograph. Yes it is pricey, and rustic, but it allowed us to hike, photograph, and enjoy the fam time. I’d do it again in a heart beat. Temps were near 60 each day.
"Amazing hotel and staff"
If you read bad reviews remember it is a hotel in the middle of a national park deep in a valley. Valley meaning wi fi not so great. My daughter told me if you climb to the top of the waterfall wifi is great. Restaurants are very good and service was great. They try so hard to satisfy so many diverse cultures. And of course EVERYONE hits at the same hours. The room was clean and modern. The balcony was to die for in the Willow building. Yes there are steps you must climb for the 2nd floor but think of what housekeeping goes thru everyday. I have learned long ago for trips with stay at many different hotels to pack only what I want or need to haul up the stairs in different bags. Parking is only a problem because people don't follow the rules or listen to instructions. Day users park in the closest to the trail parking spots before they take off on their 5 mile hike WHY??? The trams will get you so close to many of the things you want to do. And the hotel staff telling use to use one bus and switch to a different one at a main spot saved use so much time. Love this place!
