"A room with a view….. but nothing else!"
Family and I stayed at Sheraton on the Falls during our Canadian road trip. Upon arrival at lunchtime, we were advised room not yet available and hotel Policy was they had until 1600 hours in which to provide key. Having lived out of a suitcase for over a week this was a little irritating, but understood this. However reception advised they would text when room available. We rifled through our cases to find raincoats, etc. for Hornblower trip which was a little inconvenient. Several hours later (mid afternoon) we returned to hotel to ask if room was now available but again turned away as room still not ready. Again we rifled through cases to retrieve sweat-tops etc. and made our way to the falls again. As we crossed the road (having just left reception) we receive a text to say room is ready - what a joke! Having paid for a falls view room the view was spectacular … but that was all. The room smelt musty, was only set for two (when reservation for three adults ) had no safe, was dated and tired – sad to say the worst hotel during our three-week vacation. Sorry Sheraton – not recommended by us!
"detailed review, you’re paying for the view."
Pros: The great view of the falls and the nightly fireworks Multiple food choices in the area The beautiful gardens Good buffet breakfast Comfy bed Cons: Room: Smelled like mold and occasionally pot. Tiny tiny shower! Only one sink in king bathroom. AC did not work, Room was so warm. Mini fridge shuts off of door/window is opened. NOT a Juliet balcony, it’s a railing. Housekeeping did not come the first 2 days, had to request service. Pay $20 extra for a pull out sofa. Other reviews mentioned hotel needs to be updated, I agree. Aside from a larger shower, there are signs of wear (chipped paint on almost all furniture, dented lamp shades, popcorn ceilings etc.). However, the room was clean upon check in. Amenities: Pools indoor and outdoor are are heated, but very small. No hot tub/whirlpool. Free WiFi? But it’s in the service fee you’re being charged. Parking: $35 self or $49 valet, Same parking garage down the block. Note: everywhere in the area charges for parking, better off taking a taxi some places, it’s cheaper. Room service: Insane prices, don’t bother. “Resort fee includes†Don’t be fooled, the Wine Rack and the Niagara Brewing Company offer tastings to anyone who walks in, not just hotel guests. Spa: Friendly staff. Clean, great service. Amazing body treatment, book it! Pedicures do not have jet tubs, but service was great. The products for sale are worth it, buy them. Restaurants: Buffet breakfast was delish Mossimos was not worth making a reservation. Ambiance was not special. Great views of the falls, but the food was less than impressive.... sloppy Caesar salad with minimal dressing, poor wine selection, etc. would rate no more than 2 stars even though service was acceptable. This is NOT an authentic Italian restaurant. Go to 4 bothers cucina. Another decent place to eat was the skyline buffet. You are not guaranteed a window seat and it is crowded, but the food is good and fresh. Basically the nightly rate is for the view, not service, not amenities. This hotel really needs to up their game when it comes to customer service. Upon making the reservations I mentioned my husband and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary and again when confirming I told the representative. I didn’t expect roses and champagne, but not even a card, a piece of chocolate, nothing to recognize our celebration. Update: Our last night and we stopped for a glass of wine at the hotel bar where we met Jay and Hana. Very friendly, good convo, and great sense of humor. Upon asking what was the reason for our visit, Jay sent a bottle of Red wine to our room. Thank you Jay!!! You were the highlight of the hotel.
"Sheraton on the Falls has fallen"
Came for an annual conference and stayed here again for the week. 4 years running. In the past, I’ve had a falls view room but this time, was not able to get one. There were apparently a few other large meetings taking place. Just so you know, City View actually means parking lot view... so make sure you specify a falls view room when you reserve AND when you check in. The hotel itself is very dated and aging badly. The AC was either freezing cold or not on at all. Nothing in between. There is a musty damp smell throughout the building and the bedrooms smell of a combination of stale cigarette and sweat. Asked about a move, nope they all smell like that. The furniture is basic hotel variety, but lacking in functional power outlets. All drains were very slow and toilet ran forever when flushed. The staff are pleasant, but the food is not great. I ate 3 breakfasts and two lunches. The lunches weren’t bad. The breakfasts were terrible. Jam for toast came in little kraft packages that were rock hard. Asked for new ones and none available. Again, the staff tried, but weren’t able to fulfill. I’m a fan of the new concept of Green Choice whereby you get 500 Starwood points if you decline housekeeping. At this property, instead of Starwood points, they give you a $5 coupon for the Starbucks in the lobby. Not equivalent value. I would avoid this hotel if given the option.
"great view and that's what it's all about"
Just got back from a great stay here - view is exactly what we wanted, had a falls view room which was outstanding! Watching the fireworks from our bed - doesn't get better than that:) The room is quite dated overall but bed was comfortable - this hotel is in an area of lots of kids type attractions with bright lights and can be loud. It is literally across the street from Hornblower boat and near lots of things to do
"BIG MISTAKE - LEARNED MY LESSON"
The last time I was in Niagara Falls was to run in the Women's 1/2 marathon - must have been 6 years ago - I stayed at the Sheraton. It was fine, great location, parking, rooms etc. Fast forward to this visit with my son. I booked the Sheraton THEY MOVED THE SHERATON!!! We were not greeted by friendly valet but given orders where to temporarily park the vehicle. We did self park and it's $35.00 a DAY. The Sheraton sold their property and moved right outside Clifton Street. Check in took forever and witnessed a very unhappy guest while standing in line. I had booked the Club Floor which included breakfast and snacks during the day and evening. Our view on the second floor was of the American Falls and the Club Floor was one below. The hotel while looking great on the outside is very very dated on the inside. Old bathroom, a bathtub that drains slow while in the shower, a toilet that keeps running long after it's flushed, and towels that were used from the guests that were previously in this room, they were hung on the back on the bathroom door! After the first night stay we were out by 9am touring the falls and came back at 4pm - our room was still not made up - when I went to search housekeeping an employee snapped back at me - that she will get to it. I was only asking if they had missed our room as we were not in it all day. In this day and age of technology a good number of the outlets didn't work when we plugged in our iPhones. Table lamps are either burnt out or don't work at all. We ate breakfast for two mornings on the Club Floor - it was all we needed. Glad to move on with the rest of our trip -
