"Could have been great..."

The hydropath was unique and quite enjoyable. The pools, steam room, sauna, relaxation room are all very nice. The staff were very welcoming, but the massage was the biggest disappointment ever. They only have 1 massage therapist that is registered, so if you don't have a registered therapist you cannot claim it on your benefit plan. I would have thought a reputable establishment like this would only hire registered therapists or they should charge less for those not registered. The massage therapist I had was a quiet timid young lady who asked if I had any areas of concern. I told her the areas I had that were tight - mid and lower back and a hamstring. She didn't even address those areas and spent more time on my arms and legs.... so why ask me if you are just going to do your routine that you've practised. I felt she was a brand new graduate or in training. That's fine but then charge the customer 1/2 the rate for a body lotion wipe instead of a massage. The lunch was good. We did not stay at the resort.

"Just checked in and already 100% better than Tigh na Mara!!!!"

After our disappointing stay at Tigh na Mar we were refreshed to be greeted by helpful and smiling staff at the Kingfisher. Although we are not able to get into the Spa as it is full we were offered all the other amenities of the hotel, and put on a waiting list for spa services. We were given early check in and so dropped our bags and took off to sight see. Our room is lovely and clean and the view is outstanding. Right on the water with chairs provided for us to sit outside. We will be enjoying the hot tub this evening and sampling the bistro food. So far we are impressed and will update the review upon checkout tomorrow!!

"It was great but..."

Decided to do a spa getaway this past weekend. The main attraction was the Hydropath at the spa. I would recommend this in a heartbeat - it is truly an experience like no other. Beautiful spa facilities and calming atmosphere. The room was standard but was pleasantly surprised by the fantastic view it provided. The washroom was very small, but the showers were recently renovated - no tub though but that's not an issue for us. Beds were a bit too firm for my liking - again not a huge issue though. The disappointment that brings my rating from Excellent to Average lies completely within the restaurant. We went there 4 times (2 dinners, 1 lunch and 1 breakfast) simply because of convenience. However, each time seemed to surpass one another in a BAD way. The first dinner we were in the bistro side, it was a bit slow but we were so excited to finally be at the resort, I think we didn't notice nearly as much. Second meal was lunch the next day. This was the worst of thme all. Wasn't very busy looking and yet it took over half an hour for a server to take our drink orders. I think it was just confusion over *who* was going to serve us. Dinner that night was slow again with what seemed like very rushed and disorganized staff members. Breakfast the next morning was alright but at that point we lost most of our expectations. I have previously worked in the hotel industry so I don't forget how a lot of hotels over-work and under-staff their departments. We noticed the restaurant staff would be the same from morning-late night. They either were doing double shifts or maybe even split shifts but clearly a staffing issue is apparent. Perhaps they should have considered this before opening the restaurants again from renovations. Food was tasty though - so it all boils down to service. I felt bad for them in the end, because you could just see how stressed they were getting.

"New Restaurant"

We have been going to the Kingfisher for almost 30 years. We save it for special days like Birthdays, Valentines, Our Wedding Reception, etc. We went for our 25th anniversary. I booked it about a week ahead. The restaurant had just been renovated and wasn’t open yet when I made the reservation. I called the day of to confirm and add a few more to our party. They had lost our reservation. I explained we had our wedding reception there 25 years ago and would like to have a very special dinner to mark 25 years. We arrived about 15 min early. No one was aware it was any sort of special event for us. We ordered and then waited for just over 90 minutes for our food to arrive. The head waitress apologized around 75 min into the wait and offered us 3 free deserts. I was surprised they didn’t bring us some extra bread or anything. Our meal arrived and looked very fancy. I guess they were trying to time our food to be ready all at the same time. I had ordered steak. It was warm, but I was so hungry I ate it without saying anything. If you like puree it is the place for you. I don’t really care for warm carrot baby food smeared on my plate. The sauce was very good. There were about 6 deserts on the menu, Fruit, Ice Cream, and few others. We ended up getting a small cup of chocolate desert for our anniversary. The bill came and I had to remind them about the free deserts. The bill was taken back a fixed with one free desert. I left a very small tip. Our entire family has used the restaurant as a place to go for special events. I think they just lost our business . There are other fancy places to eat that serve larger portions and make sure everything is perfect for less money. If you want a special place to go for dinner maybe try Martines Bistro in Comox.

"Mother daughters three night stay"

I had been here 4 times before with my mother and sisters on special birthdays. We lost our mom last year. I decided to introduce my daughters to Kingfisher for a relaxing time away making memories. The day we arrived we went through the Hydro path. My daughters and myself completely enjoyed this and wish we could have done it again before we left. While we were there the restaurant was closed for renovations. We bought groceries for breakfast and snacks. There is a great place to eat nearby called the Mad Chef cafe in Courtenay, excellent food. Second day we all had the Pacific Mermaid treatment (it is wonderful for dry skin and relaxation) The final day we had the pedicures and manicures which are performed in a quiet private setting laying comfortably with special eye patches. The staff at Kingfisher are highly trained and friendly. I will be returning looking forward to the new restaurant.
