"Very comfortable; ocean view and access; Restaurant very nice; good breakfast"
Rooms were very comfortable; ocean view and easy walking access; restaurant very nice - Great Eggs Benedict. The outdoor pool easily accessible; spa attached. Was unable to use, but looked very professional and inviting.
"Excellent Winter Weekend"
My husband and I recently stayed in one of the Romance Suites and it was fantastic. The waterfront location was beautiful, and we woke up to lovely sunrises over the mountains. The facilities in the spa area included an outdoor spa tub, steam room, sauna and heated pool. All of these were well taken care of a a great way to relax on a cold winter weekend. The restaurant was under renovation, so we did not get to try it out, but that's just a great reason to come back one day.
"Only gets better with age!"
This is my third time to the Kingfisher, and it's obvious how much love and attention they continue to invest (not to mention money!) in upgrading the property and its amenities. Our adult son stayed in one of the ocean view rooms, which I had previously stayed in, and it had been completely re-done in every way. Just beautiful! My husband and I stayed in one of the suites, and were equally as pleased. Unfortunately, the Breakwater restaurant was closed for renovations, so we had to eat all our meals off-site. In the past when staying at the Kingfisher we were very impressed with the Breakwater, both for quality of food and for price and atmosphere. I have never stayed anywhere else in Comox, so I can't compare it to anything. I really enjoy the seclusion, the spa (ask for Jeremy!), the hydropathy and the facility as a whole. The spa building itself is in need of some re-organization, but we have only ever had great therapists there. I highly recommend this facility.
"Very tired resort and Under Construction!"
This was our 3rd and last time at Kingfisher. Actually I was hoping our 2nd time was the last time but sadly my husband made arrangements here much to my dismay. Kingfisher is tired, very tired. The front looks much like a neglected motel and is not what I call welcoming at all. As we have a dog, we are in the extremely tired pet rooms. Peeling paint everywhere, dented and dinged walls, crappy furniture and the likes. The tile floor at the entry and in the bathroom is extremely cold in the winter and heated floors would make it much more appealing. I doubt this room has been renovated except for maybe the bathroom. The bathroom has a nice countertop with an over the top sized vessel sink which looks strange. No tubs now but the shower seems updated although in our check in, the shower floor was filthy. Obviously the staff doesn't like cleaning it. The beds are firm and uncomfortable and the one chair in the room looks very soiled (we covered it with the blankets from the beds. We heard the people upstairs very well; thumping on the floor, talking and the like. Not what we call relaxing. The so called kitchenette in the room is terrible. A tiny fridge with ice built up around the freezer a few inches deep. Perhaps you should unplug it once in a while or better yet, buy new fridges. No chance of heating up beverages or food because there are no microwaves. Instead you have to trudge to the office, get the staff to heat your stuff and trudge back to your room where your food is now lukewarm or cold again. The resort itself is incredibly outdated and tired. To us, it seems like the Kingfisher is a motel and not a resort as it claims. To make matters worse, the restaurant and hydrotherapy were closed for renovations. Frankly the whole place should be closed for renovations. So instead of a nice relaxing weekend, we get to listen to hammering, sawing, power tools, trucks for 12 hours a day (7-7). So much for trying to sleep in! The office offers fruit and what not for a fee, not complimentary like it should be for guests. Holiday Inn Express offers complimentary food, why can't Kingfisher? I can go on and on complaining about Kingfisher but the place isn't worth it at all. Save your money (it's overpriced too) and stay somewhere nice like The Old House or Holiday Inn Express. Kingfisher has gone way downhill. Guaranteed, we will never come back here again!
"Great service; beautiful setting; needs updating to rooms and facilities"
From booking online to check in to use of spa and grounds; the staff were really attentive. We knew, prior to our visit, that the restaurant and food service were being renovated. It would have been great, during the renovation, for the Lodge to provide microwaves so we could cook or reheat food. The spa treatments, hydropathy and pool and steam/sauna are really good but the grounds and spa building and guest room all need updating and a deep clean.
