The approach to the Lodge was 25 km of poor gravel road through dairy farming country & on occasion we were stuck behind Parmalat milk tankers which was quite unpleasant. We had been looking forward to leaving the chalet & walking along the beach but were most disappointed to find that the beach was a good 20 minute walk away. We expected to be able to sit in our chalet & watch the waves as the chalet was advertised with a beach view. Again this was not to be - one can only see the beach in the distance while standing up on the patio. We booked a luxury chalet but there was nothing luxurious about it - not the linen, towels, furniture or fittings. We had just been to a Lodge outside Addo - which was cheaper than Oyster Bay - & our accommodation was truly luxurious - everything from the daybed in the bedroom, the lounge area with first class appliances, glasses, linen, towels, huge bathroom with his & hers basins. Both establishments served set evening menus but Oyster Bay had a starter, main course & desert with no choices. Not a memorable meal. The Addo Lodge evening meal - which was priced only a little more than Oyster Bay - was 5 courses of gourmet food with choices - really fine dining. We were told that there were 6 chefs in the kitchen & it was evident in the presentation & the food. The breakfast can only be described as fabulous. Everything that you could imagine was on display including bottles of champagne. There was also a menu with superb special dishes of the day. Our car was washed every evening & we came away feeling pampered & spoilt. The staff at Oyster Bay Lodge were pleasant, helpful and efficient. There however is a major problem with flies. They are everywhere - in the chalets and especially in the restaurant, bar and lounge areas. They are all over you and it is impossible to eat a meal without them on the plate. This issue should be attended to. This Lodge did not live up to expectations & is too expensive for what you get.
We stayed in a luxury chalet for 2 nights. The chalet was very comfortable and had everything we could possibly need. The restaurant served excellent meals. The surroundings are breathtaking, and the lodge offers a variety of activities to encourage you to explore the property. We enjoyed a number of walks to the nearby beach, which only took about 20min to get there. The only issue I would mention is the fact that the number of flies on the farm can become bothersome at times. However, it is necessary to keep in mind that this is part of living on a farm, especially when there is a dairy farm nearby. I would love to return to this lodge again in future and would recommend it to anybody who loves nature and the outdoors. Siya, Grant and the rest of Oyster Bay Lodge, thank you for your great hospitality!
"Two days in paradise.."
This beautiful location is one of those hard to find jewels where the beauty of nature is all around you. 250 ha of private coastal landscape with very friendly and professional personnel looking after all our wishes and needs. Our luxury chalet was huge and very comfortable (even had a fireplace) and it was decorated with taste. Striking view to the beach over dune vegetation. Food was really very good. We enjoyed a picnic delivered by horse to a special spot on the beach. We had an amazing riding adventure across the dunes and a most fantastic and romantic ride along the beach. We enjoyed a massage in the boma with an exquisite homeopath. This is a place where you feel at one with nature, a great discovery and we would love to visit again for a longer stay. Our 8 year old daughter loved it too !
"Take your Porsche Cayenne-not suitable for the 911 "
We planned this as a one night stop over whilst on The Garden Route It is however 12 miles down an unmade road and the last 1/2 mile is best attempted with an SUV or high ground clearance car The staff were very accommodating and Grant was a star - We got lost (caution another Oyster Bay resort is a few km away with very similar name ) lost half an hour , but Grant saved the day by bringing G and T to viewing deck allowing us to view sunset prior to registration ! Evening meal was average however you would not wish to drive elsewhere from there just for a meal!! Breakfast was better . Our room (3) was designed such that a shower caused the whole floor to become a wet room - be warned as the tide came perilously close to the bed (improving drainage might amend this) Our Room described as 'comfortable' was small - but ok for one night. There was additional shaded seating area outside room. Should you wish to stay a few nights ; surfing beach 15 min walk , unheated small swimming pool and horses on site this might be suitable for you, but a fair detour for those on a journey !
We enjoyed everything about our visit; from the friendly staff, the room with private balcony and ocean view, the walk to and on the private beach, lots of activities and the food was delicious. Well worth a visit!
