"SPACE TO SPARE IN CENTRAL WELLINGTON"
This hotel merits 4.5 stars but there is no provision for half stars. CityLife Hotel is very centrally located in Wellington. While the reception area is based on the 6th Floor of the building with street access from Gilmer Terrace the lift will take you to the ground floor and straight into Lambton Quay with all its shops, transport and commercial facilities. The main railway station is a level 10 - 15 mins walk away. Restaurants and cafes are on hand or within easy walking distance. This includes those on the waterfront. My wife and I had reserved a Studio Room but on check-in were told we had been upgraded to what I believe was an Executive 2-bedroom Suite. More on this below. Check-in was very easy and efficient. The gentleman at the reception was extremely helpful, friendly and courteous. He explained at some lengths the layout of the hotel, breakfast area and other resources. He was also very informative about sightseeing activities and the best methods of transport between the various locations. Room 407 that was allocated to us was huge. Out of interest I paced it out and concluded the overall floor area must be about 115 sqm. The room comprised an entrance lobby which lead into a dining area complete with table and 6 chairs. A generous sized kitchen area adjoined the dining space. This was very well equipped with a conventional oven, hotplates, microwave oven, refrigerator, dishwashing machine, toaster, electric jug and a full range of cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils. The only downside to the kitchen area was the delamination in two spots on top of the formica bench. Possibly an earlier guest had placed something too hot on the benchtop. The dining area then lead to a lounge space. This was generous in size and equipped with a lounge chair, settee, low table, television and dvd player. A very efficient heater was attached to one of the walls. There was no view. The window looked out on a concrete wall that had been "stepped" to take small trees and shrubs to break up the expanse of concrete. One of the bedrooms was accessed from the lounge. This had a queen bed which was very comfortable as were the pillows. All bed linen was fresh, crisp and clean. This bedroom was equipped with an alarm clock, television and telephone. A sliding door lead from this bedroom into a large bathroom (en suite) which had a shower over the bath, standard vanity unit, heated towel rail, clothes washing machine and dryer. An iron and ironing board were stored in the bedroom wardrobe. Towels were of good quality. A generous supply of soap, shampoos etc. were available. Only criticism of the bathroom was the fact that the hotel maintenance staff need to go round with a screwdriver/allen key and tighten up fittings such as the handle on the bath mixer unit, etc. The other bedroom (not used) was also generous in size. I am not sure if it was a double or queen sized bed but it looked to be as comfortable, clean etc. as the bedroom my wife and I occupied. This bedroom also had its own en suite complete with shower (walk in), vanity unit and toilet. This room also contained a safe that was located in the wardrobe. Free wi-fi was available. This was advertised as being capped at 1 gb a day but it looked as though this was, in fact, 2 gb. It was necessary to re-log in every 24 hours to access the wi-fi. Apart from the couple of defects mentioned the whole room was well serviced, clean and tidy. It was very quiet. Would I stay there again? Undoubtedly and would highly recommend it to others.
This hotel was clean, staff friendly and knowledgeable and the location was perfect for this family holiday. We were in walking distance of every CBD attraction, museums, theatres parks and right next door to the cable car. The usual suspect (maccas) was almost next door so kids were happy and there was a small supermarket 2 minutes walk as well. Also various fast food was available through room service if you’re too tired to go out. Easy commute to train station, airport and almost any bus travels down Lambton Quay to get anywhere in the city.
"Centre of town"
Very easy to miss Gilmer Terrace when driving as it is sharp leaft as you go round a corner, but once you know where it is it is straightforward. Very limited parking outside but have reserved parking spaces on a lower floor of a nearby Wilson's car park. Pay at reception and display the voucher in the windowscreen. The appartment was very large and well appointed, and is right in the centre of town. Go to the first floor to exit onto Lambton Quay. Staff were very helpful and polite at reception desk.
"If they don't have lemons you ain't got lemonade..."
We stayed here as nothing else was available last minute. I was hoping we have may been surprised but no it was a 1996 hotel with 2018 prices. Good location I'll give it that, but this style of hotel is very outdated and amenities were lacking. No lemon for the corona's (they don't do lemons or limes) and no room service, only could recommend "uber eats" and they weren't even available after 10pm. If you want luxury don't stay here, if you want value for money, don't stay here but if you don't care about anything except location and it's the last place to consider? perhaps stay here.
"In the center of city life"
This hotel is very centrally located for the city center activities. We had a little difficulty arriving at the proper spot, is was rush traffic and the end of a long driving day. The staff was exceptional, very friendly and helpful. Our room was great, facing the downtown side with peek views of the water front. The room was very clean and very comfortable. There was limited parking at the hotel (on the back side of the hotel), so we parked and left the car, walking to the attractions was that easy. The continental breakfast was quite adequate, and the staff very attentive.
