Great little place to stay. Up a long and winding road overlooking Denali with great views of the surrounding mountains. Small rooms but adequate, nice restaurant and a free shuttle up and down the mountain. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great lobby where you can just sit or book tours. People right there to help you understand the tours that are offered.
"overlooking the park"
Convenient place to stay. Near entrance to national park. Shuttle available to park entrance and to shops(for t-shirts and local art work) and restaurants Helpful staff. front desk had lots of info about local attractions Clean , adequate. Feel like all of the hotels in this area are overpriced, but they are all expensive. No budget options
"Small, dated, AND pricey!"
There were 2 families travelling together and we both stayed at the Denali Bluffs. The main reception area was nice - great lodge feel to it. The rooms, however, were very small, and very dated. Transportation from and to the train station was nice.
"Service, Smiles and Transportation too!"
When we arrived on the Alaska RR were met by a hotel bus and super friendly driver who helped load our luggage. (Our luggage was also tagged for this motel by the Alaska RR upon checking in at Fairbanks! Upon timely arrival at the motel, we approached the desk and received our room key - already pre-checked in, from a smiling and friendly desk clerk! The lobby is large with comfortable overstuffed chairs, a large fireplace, mountain views and a small, generally inadequate snacking area due to very limited products or prepared on site items. Also the motel has a tourist information desk which is served by brochures and highly enthusiastic, knowledgeable young lady - I think her name was Jessica (?). She works only summer time and I don't know whom for - i.e., Park Service, Motel, City or who). Her enthusiasm and knowledge are definitely contagious! Another service provided is transport to nearby tourist attractions by the motel bus and jolly, area knowledgeable drivers. The bus runs on a schedule and is very timely and free! (However, we found if you want apple pie in Alaska - you better bring it up with you!) The room is smaller, however very adequate with desk, luggage holder, storage unit, Tv, dressing area and rest room/tub/shower. (Not enough space for a 3rd bed). It also has a sliding patio door onto a small desk, and an interesting view of the mountains between two tall spruce or evergreen type trees. The rooms are in "duplex" buildings (2 units each) built on a hillside with decks for walkways etc. Very modern, quiet too! The following morning we were promptly transported at 6:30 am for the Denali National Park 13 hour tour. We stayed at this motel for two nites. There is an adjacent restaurant and bar with high speed service - but microwaved dinners - not freshly made or prepared potatoes for example. When departing we inquired about our luggage moving on to Talkeetna, our next stop over. We were told to simply place it outside the room and it would be picked up and we could pick it up on arrival in Talkeetna or at the Motel. (They applied the baggage tag for the Windsong Motel in Talkeetna!) Is that service or what? We recommend the Denali Bluffs for a leisure/vacation atmosphere and friendly full service. (Except the snack area).
"Good choice for the area"
The rooms at the hotel have exterior corridors and electronic locks, good views of mountains and trees. There are lower level rooms (the highest level is two stories) but check with staff when booking if you have mobility issues as there is a fairly steep hill to the rooms. I had difficulty negotiating this area without a human to hold on to or without my walking stick. Rooms are comfortable but not large. The second level rooms have small balconies. There is an events desk in the lobby to help arrange local tours. Denali tours and other local companies will pick you up at the hotel for no charge. The hotel has a free shuttle to Denali Visitor Center, the sister hotel (Denali Grande) and the train station. There are laundry facilities on the premises (which we did not use). The lobby is large and has comfortable seating. There is also seating outside. A small coffee shop off the lobby sells souvenirs and will prepare "to go" lunches for guests taking excursions. This was not only a good lunch but is highly recommended as it's pretty much the only game in town for an early excursion pick up.
