"Not Great"

We were traveling and needed to stop for the night. The Caribou was the only lodging we could quickly find when entering Glenallen. We were traveling in caravan with a moving van and two cars. We had two cats in crates and thought the hotel would take the cats in, but that option was refused. We ended up with two adults and two cats sleeping in a car in the parking lot. We got one room for four of us. The hotel was somewhat run down and the hallway and room could have been cleaner. Although we were disappointed with the lodging, the restaurant on the property was very good.

"What I expected for under $100"

After going back and forth between 2 and 3 stars, I'm cutting the Caribou some slack. I was, admittedly, concerned about staying there after reading some of the horrendous reviews, but it was after dark when I arrived in Glenallen, most places were full, I didn't want to spend over $100, and I needed a place to crash for the night, so I went for it. The orderly lobby was a welcome first impression, and the gentleman at the front desk was tidy, professional, and efficient when I inquired about a room. The price was $90/night for AK residents (which is not bad for rural AK). While my room was fairly spartan and partially dated, it was obvious that updates had been made. I was happy to NOT find brown water as shown in some of the other reviews, the bed was clean, and the WiFi worked- good enough for a night. True, the bed was not very comfortable, the bedding could stand to be updated, and the pillows sucked, but it wasn't too bad after just coming off a week of hunting. Maybe I'm being generous with 3 stars because I have definitely stayed in nicer rooms, but when I compare this type of establishment/pricing with similar options, it's about what I expected. While I wouldn't go out of my way to stay here, I'd come back in a pinch

"Slept in sleeping Bag"

It was the only place I found with last minute availability to stay.....thankfully I had my sleeping bag and pillow in my car, because I would not have slept in the sheets and pillows provided. I used the washcloth to wipe down the bathroom before I used it. The price was $159.00 - so no bargain there. Need I say more?

"Tired hotel"

Only hotel in town. Doesn't seem to be any pride in ownership. Missing basic amenities like fitted sheets on bed and hair dryer. Shower handle was installed wrong way. Curtains falling off rack. Pretty poor condition.

"Nice, nice, nice...."

Glenallen, Alaska is not too big, but the people are very big when it comes to hospitality. The Caribou is nicely staffed with very pleasant people who are willing to meet every need. A restaurant next door serves adequate meals with good service. Rooms are a step above average, being clean, nice bedding and a small fridge. Not the Waldorf-Astoria, but a good place for a night or two.......
