"Basic Bed and Bath"
We needed to stay the night in the Glennallen area, so we stayed at the Caribou Hotel. The rooms were basic and clean, and there was a restaurant nearby. On the plus side, there are ample television channels, free WiFi, a table and desk with chairs, and nice towels. The staff at check-in and check-out were friendly. Areas of improvement include the room temperature, bedding, and lack of cups. We found it hard to control the temperature in the room, and it got very hot. There is a box fan which we turned on overnight (it was loud). The two flat pillows made for an uncomfortable night's sleep. (Both the hotel and restaurant are over-priced, but considering there are not many other choices in the area, they can charge what they want.) Overall, it's a place to stay in a pinch.
"Good for a night stop"
Good place for just a night stop, because it seemed that there was nothing around to do, except to have dinner a sleep. Clean and comfortable room, free wifi, free coffee at the lobby, and nice staff.
Caribou hotel is mid-way between Tok and Anchorage. We've stayed there several times as it's only hotel we've found in Glenallen. It looks like they've taken away their older TAPS dorms and remodelled the other rooms. Ours was clean and nicely furnished with solid wood furniture, although the shower could afford to be refinished too. Internet was a bit spotty. Restaurant next door.
"Under new Management"
This hotel seemed scary after reading all the old reviews. We didn't have a choice since we planned our itinerary around stopping in this town. The initial stop was fine. The outside and lobby is very nice and scenery outside is what I would expect in Alaska. It's fit in with everything else so far. Yes, the hallway was outdated. Very retro, but there wasn't a "dirty" vibe. It smelled normal. It's no 5 star hotel, but by no means the crumb box in the other reviews. The bed was probably the best we've stayed in so far in Alaska in 5 nights. The linens were fresh and we were able to get extra fresh pillows at the desk. Shower stall and curtain were new. Fixtures were old, but did their job. Water pressure was good and heat regulation was fine. The water coming out of the taps was clear. Overall, we had no complaints. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Had a very pleasant check in and checkout experience. We would stay there again. Also, had great experiences at the restaurant and gift shop. Spoke with the young lady in the gift shop for quite some time, very friendly!
"Under new ownership"
Now calling it The New...looks like some improvements in process. Room was clean and size good for Alaska. Desk staff were all very friendly and helped us find something to do...a nice hike. We would have shipped Glennallen had we known there is Nothing to do. Desk staff made us a fresh pot of coffee at 3pm and the coffee in lobby is pretty good. No coffee in room. Nice flatscreen tv and Direct Tv. Free wifi. No hair dryer.
