Glennallen, zo’n 300 kilometer ten oosten van Anchorage, is uw uitvalsbasis wanneer u de Copper River Valley en het Wrangell-St. Elias National Park (het grootste nationale park van de Verenigde Staten) wilt bezoeken.

"Nice, nice, nice...."

Glenallen, Alaska is not too big, but the people are very big when it comes to hospitality. The Caribou is nicely staffed with very pleasant people who are willing to meet every need. A restaurant next door serves adequate meals with good service. Rooms are a step above average, being clean, nice bedding and a small fridge. Not the Waldorf-Astoria, but a good place for a night or two.......

"Go somewhere else if you can"

I know this is almost the only hotel in town, and they act like it. No hair dryer, no in-room coffee, incomplete bath products. The pillow was the thinnest one I have ever seen. The clerk checked to make sure the room was clean - at 10 pm. The bathroom floor is dirty and sticky. The room was pretty clean but the hallway carpet is very dirty. Very overpriced.

"Under new management?"

If the current management team was supposed to rescue this place, I would hate to experience the previous one. First of all, to be fair, this is Alaska and hotels tend to be beat down by harsh weather. Like most places, the furniture was old and tacky. We stayed in the two bedroom suite for $225 a night. On the upside, the suite was huge and is really a spacious two bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and bathroom. There are 3 satellite flat screens if that is your thing (we didn't come to Alaska to watch TV) and the wifi is pretty strong. That is about all of the positives. That said, it isn't very hard to wipe crumbs out of the microwave or ensure that the pots and pans are clean before guests arrive. Once we cleaned everything, we cooked our meals because our first experience with the restaurant was terrible. Apparently, they are both managed by the same people. There is something wrong with the well (as detailed by the staff when asked) so the water is very cloudy to the point where we bought jugs of water for drinking and cooking from the store for our two night stay. We planned to use the pull out sofa but there was a sign under the cushion that said the pullout was broken (the sign was old and tattered so it has clearly been broken a long time). If all of this isn't bad enough, the guy that seems like he is in charge who claims to be an accountant helping out the new management team is a total jerk. I watched him treat another guest so badly that I was surprised the guest didn't punch him. What's worse, is that he was training a new staff member at the time! In short, these people have no idea what they are doing in both running a hotel as well as customer service. I am not sure what I was thinking to book here especially judging from all of the bad reviews.

"Worse than Afghanistan"

I have stayed all over the Alcan , all over the United States, traveled north to south Alaska to California multiple times and deployed to Afghanistan as an infantryman. This place was only slightly cleaner than my tent in the middle of afg. The cost would land you a Hilton, raddison, or holiday inn. The sheets had stains, pillows where brown and had pubic hair on one! The worst part of all was the bathroom THE door didn't pass the toilet! I had to shoulder breach it just to open it enough to fit my 5 year old through the thing. And then it didn't flush...pee... I wouldn't stay here if they paid me the 150 bucks! Also my wife asked the staff for sheets and pillow cases and they didn't deliver them because the linen room was locked. The room was 85-90 degrees while it was 70 outside so we opened our door and window. BELIEVE THE REVIEWS! WORST HOTEL EVER!

"Tired Hotel Should Only be Used if You're Desperate"

Stayed here one night on the way home to Alaska from Arizona. It's very marginal. We stayed in an unrenovated room, some are being done we were told, and it was just above dump status. Clean but old and worn out with stained pillow cases, for example. Really? On top of that, the normal price of $134 was lowered to $114 and it was by far, the poorest value of our sux days on the road. Take the option of one of the B&B's in the area or drive onto Tok. We were sorry the Princess Lodge in nearby Copper Center wasn't open yet.
