"Great trip!"

We picked Hawks Cay because of friends who had previously stayed here. We stayed in the main hotel in a room with a king bed and bunk beds. The room was very spacious as there were 5 of us (the bottom bunk is a full size bed) and it was updated and very clean. The bathroom was very big and the toilet was in the bathroom but had it's own door which worked out great because someone could use the bathroom mirror while another person was using the toilet. The weird thing was that our friends stayed in the room right next door to us with bunk beds as well, but their toilet was not in a separate room like ours, it was part of the bathroom so they were wishing they had our room. Anyway, we thought the pool was nice, could have been bigger and the lagoon was great but the extra charge for the paddle boards and kayaks was a bit excessive - they do charge a resort fee and that should be included. Most resorts include anything not motorized as part of the resort fee, so Hawks Cay please rethink that charge. The drinks are expensive but that's to be expected at any resort. I read other reviews where people complained about the price of the room but I honestly thought that it was a good value for the size and cleanliness of the room. I have paid much more for smaller rooms at resorts. My biggest complaint is that the ice cream shop next to Anger and Ale was not open the 5 days we were there. Apparently they only open in the summer? How does a resort in Florida not have an ice cream shop open??!!! We laughed about it the whole trip. We had to come back to NJ to get ice cream for the kids LOL. Actually we did take a day trip to Key West and got them ice cream there. A worker told us to get ice cream at Starbucks in the resort. Starbucks only had Gelato on Wednesdays. The lobby is really pretty and the grounds are beautiful. The valet guys were great. Drink service at the pool could have been better but it wasn't that bad. All in all we really enjoyed our stay.

"Completely disappointed"

I just got back last week from my first trip to the Florida Keys and while I had a great time, unfortunately I had many issues with Hawks Cay. I did my research of course here on TA and toyed with staying here or in Islamorada, we chose here. I had a friend stay here a few years ago from a trip she won on a radio station and had great things to say. We checked in on time and were told that one couple was being upgraded to a ocean view room and the other was not. Ummm.. really?? Ok, fine, that was great for my BFF and her hubby. They then tell me, that my room is on the complete opposite side of them! Not even in the same building. What? How is that possible? We are on the same reservation, I have documentation emails stating so, all paid on my CC etc., etc., etc,. We were told there were no other rooms, come on.... I know better than that.... I know you keep empty rooms in case there is a problem but whatever, this was not starting out well. Then, my BFF and I ask, are we able to pay cash for whatever we buy at the resort, oh yes she says all bars and restaurants take cash payments....wrong answer. (I'll get back to that). As angry as I was, I got to our room and it was nice, the bathroom was very nice! Our view was the parking lot which apparently I paid for so.... I wasn't a fan of the bed frame, it stuck out quite a bit and I had an issue banging my leg often as did my BFF's Husband up in their nice room. Needless to say, I wrote a reply email from when I spoke with the reservation person in September stating how dissatisfied I was about really being separated from our party. Fast forward to the bar, we go get a drink, get ready to pay when the bartender states, you cannot pay cash here, you can only pay cash tips here. My BFF and I looked at each other, umm, that is not what the woman who checked in told us. Whatever, now we know. Fast Forward to 10 minutes later, the Manager calls not my cell phone but my BFF's to speak with me about my complaint. Basically says there is nothing we can do for you, I am booked because I have a wedding (not my issue) and he was happy that my BFF was able to get a great room. Ya, I was happy too but we are at opposite ends of the resort. I say can you comp me drinks, dinner, anything? We don't do that, you requested the room and that is what was available. Oh man, what a shame they cannot treat their guests with issues better. I tell you Thank God for the sunset cruise we went on because this was all nonsense at $414.00 a night. Fast forward to breakfast. We decided to eat at Ocean for breakfast. The four of us sit down, we plan on ordering off the menu, the server convinces us to order the buffet since drinks are included. Ok, we do so, it made sense. The food was sub par, eggs were horrific, potatoes and sausage were just ok. The fruit and yogurt was delish! Fast forward to pay, we ask, can we pay cash in here, only if you have the exact amount because we do not have change. What??? Omg, this is incredible, who is on first at this place!? Whatever, we paid with our room key. Then we figured out there was a soda package, no one told us! We are big soda drinkers too, had someone told us, we probably would have purchased it. As far as the grounds, beautiful!!! Most of the servers walking around were great! They asked often if we needed anything. Be prepared to pay, we paid $15.00 for Tito's on the rocks in a small plastic cup. I enjoyed all of my drinks, they were made well! The pool was great until mid afternoon and the water was too warm to go in. The loungers were comfortable and I thought plentiful so long as you were out early. The fire pit was awesome, great touch. We had an issue with our remote control and the cleaning attendant stated we needed to go to the front desk which I thought was strange, I sent my husband up there. I thought she cleaned well although my husband felt differently. My BFF's nice room had hot water issues, it took like 10 minutes for the hot water to come on. Last but not least, we had a note under our door our last night stating that we would get 2 free coffees and Starbucks (which was there) if we checked out before 10:00am. Ya well, we didn't get them.......good thing we don't drink coffee plus my BFF said the line was so long and the server was very unfriendly. Oh well, I was disappointed that after planning so long and spending so much that this wasn't perfect. I hope if you book here your experience is better.

"February Vacation"

This is our second trip to Hawks Cay. Last time was 3 years ago. It seems as though the resort is getting a little tired. Still great family activities. Staff was great. Pool was falling a part. Lagoon was the same. Was able to enjoy adults only pool. Food was the same, ok. Wifi was definitely better, they upgraded substantially, although kids did complain. We stayed in main hotel area by big pool, hallways smelled musty, which was such a turn off. Had to call for TP, one night. All in all still a nice place.

"Great destination!"

Julia at the Tranquility Pool was amazing! Food service was great! Definitely coming back! The room was spacious, impeccably clean an had a great view!! All staff members had a smile and no request was denied.

"Great for the whole family"

We stayed at the main hotel. Chris Bennett was our tram driver and he was awesome. We played soccer everyday at noon. We swam everyday. We played mini golf. There were a bunch of great activities organized for the kids (and some not so well organized activities). The food at Angler & Ale is fantastic. While waiting for our food, one of the local fishermen allowed my son to throw the scrap fish parts to a flock of pelicans. Every day was a fun adventure.
