Over The Casa Marina, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Our favorite

Not a picky customer but...what a disappointment! This was our third visit to this resort, first under the Waldorf management. Overall, the feeling is that this is a shell of what they used to offer. The service is far from the extraordinary one we received when the resort was operated by Starwood. The check-in, "guaranteed by 4pm", did not take place until past 5pm. No explanations or apologies (even though check out is by 11am). The room felt more like an attack than anything else, mildew smell included. The pool staff, although friendly, are hard to come by. Long gone are the offer of refreshments or fresh fruit by the pool during the day. The room was serviced late in the day (I would guess by 4pm, an inconvenience when there is a rainy day... The room's bathroom (in a room meant to accommodate 4) was minuscule. The bathrobes not longer cotton, towels not always changed (for over $600 a night, something one would expect). The towel holder fell on the shower, one of the blankets was soiled on arrival, and the safe would not work ...(only the towel holder received attention). The linens and pillows seem as those from 2010 when we were there last. The only noticeable change, beside the exorbitant prices, was a decline in experience which, at best, would described as mediocre. We will not be back.

"Classy and Historical"

I have been visiting Key West since I was a kid. This last trip is close to number 30. This is the first time that I have stayed at the Casa Marina. I can remember coming here with my parents when we wanted to go have a dinner at a "special" place. It's an old historic hotel which is both good and bad. The property is beautiful and I especially love the lobby with the wood floor, coffered ceiling, and the many historical photos. The elevators are very slow and one may be the smallest I have ever been in. It's a good thing there are only three floors. A beautiful stairway is centrally located and we used it going down from the third floor. The rooms are small but nicely appointed. We had a weird room. It was a corner with plenty of windows but it was an interior corner with views of other rooms (#350). There are two identical pools with one being an adult pool. The service at the pool was impeccable from the gentleman taking care of the umbrellas, chairs, and towels to the servers bringing tropical adult beverages and food. I didn't really care for the people that would reserve chairs early in the morning and then never show up. The beach provides great views and nice breezes. The sand is a little rough as it is in the keys. Beach swimming must be done by entering the water from the pier as the shore is very rocky. Bikes and watersports are available on the southwest corner of the beach near Alberta St. Higgs Beach is right next door and I would suggest going there if you are a true beach person. Self parking is $22 per night and is located across the street. Valet is available for $30 per night. I am a Hilton Diamond member and it's hard to believe that nothing is included in the high room rates. We did get two complimentary cocktails at the lobby bar (RUMba) which were very good and valued at $24. There is a Nespresso machine in the room which I usually rarely use but I didn't want to walk downstairs and pay for a morning coffee. There is a mini fridge in the room but no microwave. The service at the hotel was excellent and the room and accommodations very comfortable. Sorry for the long review but I hope somebody finds value in this honest report.

"Our Wonderful Stay at Casa Marina"

It's funny because we read a lot of negative reviews on this hotel after we had booked it, but that was not our experience at all. The hotel was beautiful, the adult pool is awesome when you are trying to have a kid-free vacation as were the guys working at the pool - they are so helpful and so nice. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we've ever had - lots of really great choices and the service there was also impeccable. Yes it is expensive, but you are staying at a Waldorf Astoria, not a Holiday Inn so I would think that a person would or should realize that you get what you pay for. We loved it and we will be back...

"A nice but not excellent hotel"

We stayed here for 3 nights and upgraded to include breakfast and a suite. There is a fee for parking and a resort fee too. Good points - check in fine, room OK, clean but a bit dated, AC OK, adults only pool, nice grounds, pier to walk on and access to small beach. However this was not a Waldorf Astoria standard Breakfast was disorganized and the service was awful; on a day when it rained we saw 20 or more people queuing for breakfast; we were charged for breakfast even though we had pre-paid bad had to call the hotel to have it taken off bill; the staff were not helpful at breakfast The fitness room was baking hot and many of the machines were not connected to the TV - seems trivial but at more than $600 per night this is not OK The supply of bathroom products was small and the stuff was poor quality We were told that the pool side pampering eg sunglasses clean and free Popsicle had been stopped - many return guests were disappointed by this downgrade Again trivia but its all part of the Waldorf experience that seems t\o have gone Won't go back

"Stayed here on my last Navy day in KW!"

There is no better place to pamper yourself than staying at the Casa Marina. Mine was only a one night stay, but the ambiance and amenities were without equal in the Keys. The on site restaurant offers local seafood and some exciting cultural items.
