"The Gates Hotel in Key West"
While at The Gates Hotel in Key West, we stayed for 4 days and 3 nights. The hotel is absolutely outstanding!! Rum Row Bar was so much fun by the pool!! The bar tender, Beidy makes the BEST drink called a Rum Row Punch!!! She poured her love into my drinks, and I call them the tastiest rum drinks in all of Key West!! She is entertaining to talk to, and best bartender I have ever met!! Great personality and fun to be around!! You must stop and have Beidy make you a fantastic Rum Row Punch!! The staff is also fantastic in the lobby, and very knowledgeable!! They have a free shuttle every half hour that whisks you safely off to down town Key West, so that you don’t have to drink and drive, deal with traffic and parking!! I strongly recommend The Gates Hotel in Key West!! Very reasonable rates as well!! It will be my vacation destination for years to come! Lore Hines
"An OK stay "
I would struggle to agree with 4 stars for this place. Yes it's clean. Yes the staff is friendly and helpful. The bar and pool looked great but we didn't go in. My biggest problem with this place was noise. You can hear when someone in the next room gets up in the night. Also there is a one inch gap under the door. Anyone walking by you hear... Specially if they are rolling a suitcase. The rooster that crows combines with the light that comes under the door... guarantees that you won't sleep in. It is decorated in a minimalist modern way. Nice pictures on the wall. Paper cups for coffee in the morning... Efficient... But not the best way to enjoy the first cup of the day....no extra steps here...... The stopper for the tub is always on so the tub fills up unless you find something to put under it let the water out. The temperature regulation is a bit wonky. It was cold during our stay.... I don't think the system is built for heat.... Too hot or too cold with little adjustments to the thermostat. The shuttle to old town worked very well. We found a long black hair in the very white sheets when we opened the bed..... A bit off putting. I'm sure the bed had not been slept in... But still...
Hello fellow travelers, Hard Annie has returned once again to review for a return visit. This past weekend my lovey took me back to our "Happy Place" in the keys for my birthday weekend. Needless to say, I was in such a good mood it probably would have taken a lot to screw it up. But....What I want to focus on is the fact that sometimes a good review is a one off. Sometimes when you go to a place, everything just goes off perfectly and then you come back expecting the same for a second time around. That either happens.....or it doesn't. The Gates Hotel did NOT let me down ! Again I have nothing but rave reviews for this place and plenty of pics and good thoughts to share. I want to start by addressing how personally satisfying it was to stay here. At all times the entire staff was nothing but highly attentive and sensitive to the needs of all their guests. We arrived at check in time which is four P.M and there was the typical check in rush happening. I got to witness the process for different people with different issues and each one was handled by the gracious and elegantly mannered staff to everyone's satisfaction. There was a very rude guest throwing a tantrum about a printer not working (due to operator failure I might add) and though he was being petulant and promising to ruin them with bad reviews, Karen the fabulous concierge, never lost her aplomb and maintained her almost zen-like aura while continuing to help the pest. I too was at the receiving end of Concierge Karen's outstanding attention to detail. As Lovey and I stood in the lobby waiting for our turn to register, we were discussing my birthday plans for the weekend. She must have overheard us because later that evening, I had a surprise snack-pack with balloons waiting in our room upon our return! Nice touch Karen...You remain a concierge Guru in my book. As I stood in our lovely bathroom opening the "gratis" supplies, I began crowing with glee when I discovered that along with a shower cap, there was also a hair tie ! I needed one right then and had forgotten mine. Lovey insisted it was one of the many boons of a female manager, attention to detail. I discovered the Manager's name to be Sarah and I felt it necessary to introduce myself and to thank her for it. She too was amazing, cordial, inviting and very open to my opinions. She immediately assured us and herself, of our comfort level and stopped whatever she had been doing to make sure I was satisfied. Sarah and Karen....you two make a great team, keep up the good work and I hope to see you both still there when I return, as I most certainly will. Now, as for the rooms and the property, they were just as charmingly understated as before (please see my previous review of this property for details). I must tell you all, that the cleanliness of my room out shined even some of the bigger luxury hotels I have stayed at. They must treat their housekeeping staff very well because they clean that room in ways and in corners I have never seen a hotel room cleaned before. Not to mention the cheery smiles and attitudes every time I ran into a house keeping staff member. I had room 202 and it was perfect. I think I had one of the best rooms with a view ! I could see the pool, the bar and the live musician all in the courtyard below. It was a corner unit and yet somehow I was not disturbed by too much noise or traffic. I did notice that they eliminated the sand area by the pool for the kids to play in. Now it is the space for a few really nice cabanas. When we went downstairs on our first morning there, Concierge Guru Karen had already ordered us our scooter to be dropped off at the hotel! It was perfect and hassle free. We didn't even have to worry about pick ups and drop off arrangements for said scooter because when we were done with it, at the end of the weekend, we just had to leave it there and a pick up was arranged. Karen even handled the billing process for us. Just.....WOW... what a great weekend and a great place to stay. I want to put the whole staff here on my Christmas list. On a side note, the bartender at their bar makes a great margarita. Warmest Regards my fellow travelers and enjoy a stay here. I can not imagine you could be disappointed and the Keys are recovering nicely. I have posted plenty of pics for you to get a visual on. Enjoy and be good to " my new crew "over at the Gates Hotel ! Hard Annie out....
Nice hotel, very tidy and brand new. They offer a nice shuttle service with takes you to the center of Key West. The pool is nice and there’s a cosy bar with live music next to the pool. You can also rent a bike to see Key West for a decent price.
"New Years Celebration"
Absolutely amazing hotel, with great accommodation and on-site bar, and the amenities are excellent and having access to amenities to the hotel next door was great. Jesus the bartender was friendly and helped with our visit. Dasha set up our excursions and setup everything we needed.
