"AN OASIS IN THE MAKING"
What use to be the Edgewater, Marriott bought earlier in the year and is in the midst of remodeling the hotel to meet its guests standards. This is another of those things I won on BiddingForGood and had to use it before the end of the year. I combined it with my Florida Keys trip and very glad I did. I hadn't been to Miami in a very long time and use to work on Lincoln Road, so it was almost like going home. That was until I tried to find a place to park! TIP ONE: Budget/plan to pay about $20 a day to valet your car because it will immediately save you a lot of frustration. We were given a nice room - studio with no view but that was ok. It had a full kitchen but no dishes, silverware, etc. I called the front desk and someone brought those things very quickly. The lady explained that we were staying in what use to be an apartment and was going to be remodeled soon, thus nothing extra. I was disappointed that I couldn't get to the roof top to view the ocean and shoot some photos because the roof top was being remodeled too. Would like to have known that a head of time but oh well. Again because of the remodel, the hotel didn't have hot food service. To accommodate the guests, I had to fill out a breakfast request and someone would bring our food at a time I picked. This worked very well except the only thing hot was the coffee which was very good. It is a short walk to the ocean where they have all the amenities you'd expect from a beach front hotel. I was able to photograph the sunrise that was spectacular and rivaled the sunrises in Hawaii. The second morning it started to rain just as the sun was rising and even then, it was beautiful. TIP TWO: If you don't want to blow your food budget, there is a Walgreens directly behind the hotel, one street back, that had a huge variety of sandwiches, fruit and other things that were priced very reasonable. They also have photo services available. I look forward to seeing this beach oasis when completed. Even with all the remodeling, there is a FEEL of peace and a retreat from the South Beach energy.
"Awesome location, Substandard Hotel"
The location right on South Beach is absolutely fantastic. Easy access to the beach, dining and nightlife. It is a perfect spot to be if you are in the mood to relax all day and party all night. In defense of pulse, they were undergoing extensive renovations at the time of my stay, so I can't speak to the quality of the finished project. That being said they have a lot of work to do. The hotel lacks any signs out front which makes it very difficult to locate, and the valet is brutally slow. Often when arriving to park the car there there would be no valet present and I would just leave my keys with the front desk. Even calling 30 minutes ahead was not enough notice to get my car pulled around in time. This was extremely frustrating. The free breakfast delivered to your room everyday was a nice touch, but the room itself was sub par. The bed was not the typical excellent Marriott bed, and was rather uncomfortable. Moreover, the room was very sparsely furnished, lacking utensils, modern TV etc. which is strange for a vacation club. The decor seemed very slapped together. I'm assuming this is something they will change during the renovations, but as it stands now it is an eyesore. I enjoyed my time in south beach, but just be aware that when you stay at Pulse you are paying for the location, not for an enjoyable hotel experience.
"Location, location, location"
It a simple, clean place but you can't beat the location. It's across the street from the beach and the restaurant downstairs; Havana 1957, is amazing. Ask for the 15% discount when staying at Pulse. The area looks and feels like South Beach. The front desk was accommodating and professional; my thanks to James! Ca passe!
"Great location BUT...."
Perfect location for South Beach, staff lovely and v helpful but the hotel is not fully ready for occupation. Entrance is a corridor with a 'hostel' feel to it - not great first impression. Rooms spacious and modern although feels a little cheap/basic - not sure how long the condition of furnishings will remain good. Bathrooms v nice. Kitchenette nice touch HOWEVER all cupboards empty! No crockery cutlery or cookware etc not even a teaspoon!! Very basic breakfast can be delivered to your room ( not great - go out instead). Lots of construction on site, lots closed off. Dreadful views from some windows - dirty alleys etc (keep blinds shut). Windows on front have nice view of Ocean Drive. We had a studio with 2 queen beds and also a 2 bed apartment. Seems overpriced at the moment given the general condition and lack of facilities. Will probably be lovely when renovations complete but if you are looking for Marriott Vacation club resort standard it's not here yet.
My daughters and I stayed for a couple of nights before leaving for a cruise. The room was lovely, very comfortable. We loved having the small kitchenette. The staff was friendly and helpful. Edward gave us a list of surrounding restaurants and even threw in a couple of his own favorites. The location cannot be beat, directly across from the public beach and restroom. Speaking of the beach, the hotel provided beach towels as well as umbrellas and chairs! There was construction going on while we visited but it didn't bother us a bit. Happy hour was also a very nice touch. We spent time each evening chatting with people from all over the world.
