Over The Townhouse

"Sadly less than it was"
We've stayed at the Townhouse Hotel countless times over the past 5-7 years. It was our beloved destination for escapes from frigid NYC winters. But it must be under new management, because everything that made it special is gone, and in its place is yet another Miami hotel. First, that adorable free breakfast: it wasn't fancy, just croissants and hard-boiled eggs and make-your-own cappuccinos. But it was quirky and welcoming. It's been replaced by a café where a cup of tea costs $3. And the big, low table where guests from many lands used to gather is gone. Which brings me to ... the clientele. Once, low-key chic foreigners. We struck up some interesting conversations in the lobby of the Townhouse. Now, girls in hooker heels celebrating bachelorette weekends. And of course the prices have gone way, way up. Makes us less tolerant of the garbage collectors at dawn, the thin walls (did I mention the bachelorette parties?) and the lack of basic 2017 amenities like a coffee machine in the bedrooms (although there *are* -- for the first time -- lots of snacks ... for sale, of course). Which are still just as tiny as they ever were. Which was fine when the rooms cost less. Sad to think this will be our last visit to the Townhouse. But there is nothing special any more to bring us back.
"Close to the beach and ocean drive"
The hotel is clean and with minimalist look. The hotel is located on a side street next to the park/beach area. Very convenient to the beach and park area. Staff was very helpful and even offered us free bicycles after our first night was interrupted by noisy upstairs neighbors which the staff quieted. They offer breakfast for a price, with the main item being eggs, and various donuts, breads, etc. Since it's new, I think they are experimenting with what guests want and even asked for our input since the offerings seem a little uneven. Hopefully the selection has expanded to include more fruit and cereal. The coffee was excellent and they have since installed an cappuccino machine. On our next to last night, a nearby dance club called MYNT was blasting techno music loud enough to wake us, so the staff moved us to a room in the front of the building. I would advise people to ask for a front room as it is quieter. Overall, we enjoyed staying there and the location can't be beat. You don't need a car if you plan to stay in the area as valet parking is a bit steep at $35.00 per day.
"Visiting Miami with friends"
Great hotel, awesome location to beach, restaurants and clubs. 5 minute walk to the beach. Rooftop bar. Basic, clean rooms. I'd definitely stay here again while in Miami. The sister hotel is one block away where you have full use of the pool, hot tub, chairs & umbrellas as well as several poolside bars and restaurants.
Hotel room was very spacious and clean. Had a big minibar. Staff friendly. Loved rooftop bar and Barman there tries to make sure that you have a lovely experience. On our last day A/C broke and didn't work properly. It made an awful noise and made us wake up early in the morning. It was some kind of the noise coming from outside ( I think that was A/C from the hotels around) . It was unbearable and did affect proper sleep. Suggestion would be to change windows. Additionally, the hotel puts authorisation on you bank card 50 dollar per day in case of damages and release the money after 7 working days. I wish they told us about it. Location is good , just a minutes from the beach.
We visited the rooftop bar (did not stay at the hotel) and had an amazing time. Walking into the foyer of the hotel we found it to be very welcoming, clean, and bright. After chatting with the front desk host, who was very friendly, we headed up stairs to check out the rooftop deck. Even getting there was a neat little adventure with all the artwork on the walls. The deck is big enough to house a large number of people but the way the seating is arranged makes it feel very intimate and charming which is very refreshing on South Beach. Our bartender Mike was outstanding and gave us fantastic drink recommendations from their house cocktail menu (which is very reasonably priced). We had a wonderful time and look forward to returning soon. Thanks to all the staff who were so hospitable.
