"St Patty’s Day"
Stopped in while attending the Salt Life Festival and St Patty’s Day. Nice view from the outside penthouse bar but very crowded. Crab cakes were rather average and the same with the hummus. Had a few rum drinks which were ok.
"Charming hotel in the center of town"
An attractive historic building located in the center of town. It was conveniently located for the things we wanted to do. Easy walk to some very nice restaurants, the trolley and the shops at St George Street. The hotel is nicely decorated in period style. The room is a typical size and maintained well given the age of the building. Air conditioning system worked well and was quiet, a must for us. The room was city side view and was generally quiet. After 11pm it was dead quiet. We only ate at the hotel for breakfast but we found the food much better than average. All of the hotel staff was extremely nice and professional. Easy valet service and when you wanted your car it was ready downstairs waiting by the time we took the elevator to the lobby.
"No worth $400 per night! "
I have been visiting St Augustine for over 15 year and stayed over in the city many times! All types of hotels. I have always admired the Casa Monica from afar, thinking it was too expensive and ritzy for our taste. Well, recently, a medical diagnosis put a night at the Casa Monica on my bucket list. So, we stayed there on Friday, March 2, 218. What a disappointment! There is nothing that we saw or experienced that screamed $400 per night! We should have stayed in a cheaper hotel for 2/3 nights. Very disappointing! Save your money and stay extra nights in St. Augustine and do not stay at Casa Monica!
"Hotel or Kennels?"
Before I begin let me say I’m a dog LOVER. Have two Labs presently that my children contend are the favorite children! I won’t deny that could be true. I don’t travel with my dogs as I realize that not everyone feels like I do. They do not always behave. And while I don’t allow it, they get on the furniture, beds included. I have no specific data but I would feel quite certain that folks that go to the extreme of taking them on vacation don’t say no when they climb in bed. Which brings me to this hotel and its policies regarding dog guests. While sitting by the pool enjoying a gorgeous afternoon, I saw a woman with her pit bull enter the pool area. I was with my sister who has a major fear of dogs having been the victim of a viscous attack. When I saw the woman coming by us with the longest loose leash I quickly asked her to not let the dog near us as my sister is afraid. She quickly responded that the dog is on a leash. Trust me it could have licked our feet as it passed by. I went to the desk to ask what the policy was on dogs. The woman said as long as they are under 50 pounds they are allowed. This dog was not under 50 pounds unless he was weighed in on the scale I like to use which is not a calibrated one. When I asked if the hotel reserves rooms just for pets they said absolutely. Later, when I returned home I called the hotel management and she said, “they do their best†to keep them in the same rooms. I wish I knew this policy prior to staying in the hotel. My husband had bites on his ankles from the day we checked in and they went away upon our return. I guess the deep cleaning they say they give the rooms did not include the very dated carpet in our room...I leave my pets at home in the care of a pet sitter where I know they are comfortable and safe...and most important, where they do not bother other guests.
"Lovely Hotel in a Great Location"
Casa Monica is a historic hotel in the perfect location. It's close to everything in the historic district of St. Augustine. The employees were courteous, polite, and extremely helpful. The public areas of the hotel are beautiful The food and service in the restaurant were excellent. I would CONSIDER staying there again. However, there were a few flaws: The room is dated with frayed carpets and needs refurbishing. I was shocked at how cheap and thin the towels were. This should never be in a hotel in this price range. I was also not happy that they closed the pool area on two of our three days in order to accommodate private parties. Since we are charged a daily resort fee, we should have been informed when we made our reservation that this part of the resort was not available or not charged the resort fee for those days.
