"A bucket list hotel with a big price!"
Been to Disney three times and never had the chance to stay in a Disney hotel...and yes, it was a bucket list item to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We booked a savannah view room even though we felt it was overpriced. First, the hotel is older yet oh so beautiful. The lobby is stunning and the reception staff are very helpful with a friendly welcome. We were able to check in early and greatly appreciated that as we headed out to Epcot. Our room was "average", two beds for one couple and furnishings tad old but the balcony view is the ultimate. Ankole cattle, zebra, giraffe, flamingo, storks, hornbills, rabbits, eland and more roam freely and it is one of life's big A HA moments hands down. First night we had drinks and a snack at the main bar and the staff was fun, friendly and perfect. Breakfast in hotel average and dinner at their pinnacle restaurant was only so so. But oh the view. We had an entire day just to enjoy the hotel and animals and highly suggest taking the time to enjoy the hotel - it's beautiful, it is over priced but it is rare!
"Animal Kingdom Jambo House"
This trip was our second family vacation to Disney with our 15 month old. The animal lover in me absolutely loved this hotel. Room—-Nothing beats being able to sit on your balcony and watch a zebra and giraffe walking around the savannah. The only criticism would be the beautiful wood furniture located in the room. Strange criticism I know but when you have a small, little one surrounded by large, solid, hard, wood furniture..... not great and takes up a lot of play space. Our workaround for safety was a pack and play which the hotel gratuitously provided. Staff—-hotel staff was very helpful and concierge folks were top notch/aiming to please. Special thanks to Christine from Warner Robbins, Ga. She greeted us right off the Magic Express bus. The most conscientious customer service person I have had the pleasure of engaging with at any hotel in a very long time. She completely appreciated our issues with traveling with a small child, fast pass issues etc.....in short, she is an issue resolver not an issue spotter....smiling all the while. The other staff was very good but she is great. Grounds/Transportation—The grounds were lovely and well maintained, bus service to and from all parks was effortless (and if in a rush, the Minnie Van was awesome and included car seats). Minnie was a little pricey ($25 one way) but worth it if you are about to miss a fast pass on Memorial Day weekend B-). Minnie folks are Disney cast members and they were timely as well as personable. Food/Concierge—-The Concierge Lounge was excellent. It was so good that we really did not need our meal plan at all. “Real food†essentially all day long (breakfast/lunch/dinner time/desserts) as well as wine, beer etc.....with a Cape Town flare. If I could do it over, I would not buy a meal plan at all although Sanaa meal was awesome. In short, this was a magical holiday(insert pixie dust).
Well, where do I start! Been to Florida a few times and always stayed off site. This hotel has totally changed my mind for future visits. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. The lobby is amazing, lots of interesting artefacts to look at and very clean. Lovely big fire to chill out by each day/night. I did notice they had some African drums each day but we didn’t have to to participate in this. From arrival to checkout the staff were excellent. Standard room overlooking car park was exchanged to a partial view (2353) at check in, my request when we arrived with no problems at all (no extra fees for this). Arrived at the room and wow what a fantastic view it was! (Pics below). Even on the walk to the room, we were amazed at what we animals we could see. Good sized room with 2 queen beds. Very clean and enough space for all our belongings. Small fridge and coffee/tea machine also in room. Room was cleaned daily and left $5 tip. I did notice that they didn’t hoover each day but that never bothered us (not sure if they were supposed to)? My kids loved the pools which did get busy at times but there was only one time that we couldn’t find a sun lounger for about 30 mins but we were happy to sit at the pool bar. Staff around the pool bar at Jambo were great, one in particular think his name was Will? Gave us info on where we could watch the champions league final (thank you, but terrible result for me). We did use Kidani pool/bar once and that was great too. English lady that had lived out in Fl for a number of years was lovely to chat to at the bar :). Pool was closed a few times due to lightning and the staff are really good at keeping an eye on the weather reports. When the pool was closed, the games room is free which we found out a few days into our stay. We never used the other activities at night time but my youngest (aged 10) took part in pool area games at both Jambo and Kidani and also took part in the latest craze of slime making which she loved. Food options - we used the Mara for breakfast and occasional dinner which was great. Food was good from what we had tasted. No complaints at all. My daughter loved the Mickey waffles for breakfast. Lots of snack options and even take away food of salad/wraps/cakes/fruit/veg. I thought there was plenty of choice available for all of our party. It also open really late (01:30hrs) incase you want a quick bite after a long day on the park). We ate two meals at Boma, great choice and service. Ate that much we couldn’t fit any desserts in both times and they looked so yummy! Great cocktails and have found my new favourite the magical star. Asked the staff to write down the ingredients we liked it that much! On the last day we ate at Sanaa. When we arrived the reception didn’t have us on the list but luckily I had the reservation on my MDE and they quickly found it on a separate sheet of paper. Sat at our table quite quickly. We couldn’t get a table at the window which was disappointing but food was excellent. Bread service was great with all the dips. Gave us the opportunity to taste different dips and breaks which were amazing. Food was lovely although service was a little slow at times but we didn’t mind that much. This was the first time we had the dining plan and I throughly recommend it. In act I can’t recommend it enough. We got to eat at many places that we wouldn’t have tried is we weren’t on the DDP. Lots of choice at AKL and throughout the Disney properties, you wouldn’t be disappointed. Disney transport. There is a little shuttle to Kidani Village right outside Jambo house and vice versa or you can take the 5-10 min walk which is also ok. We never had more than a 10-15 min wait for any buses from the hotel. Yes it is the furthest hotel but that didn’t make any difference to me, maybe max 20-25 mins to the furthest park. Never had any problems getting a seat. Our only disappointment was leaving to go the villa for the rest of our holiday. Would I reccommend this hotel, in a heartbeat. Can’t wait to go back in the future.
"SO BEAUTIFUL <3"
We loved staying here. The grounds are very beautiful and that lobby is to die for. The attention to detail is very impressive. we loved watching them feed the animals with our frozen drink from the bar by the pool. The room was a bit small for the price but comfortable. There is transportation to the parks though we did not take it since we had our car. We only ate at the quick service restaurant and the food was typical Disney fare nothing out of this world.
We loved the animals! That makes this resort very special. The restaurants are amazing. The views from the room were beautiful. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and professional. The pool is beautiful!! The transportation is prompt and you are able to wait in the shade, even if you choose to use the Disney Buses to get to the parks. The Minnie Vans (Lyft) were wonderful, especially for getting to and from Mini Golf and the Magic Kingdom. Minnie Vans would be great for the water parks as well. This is a very large resort. Our room was not too far of a walk from both the lobby and the pool.
