"Great 40th Birthday Trip"
Had a wonderful trip to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. The lodge is beautiful and the employees were very helpful. We got upgraded to a Savannah View Room which was amazing, we were in the left wing, the Ostrich Trail Guest Rooms, and I swear we had the best view. Their were Giraffe's in the evening and at night, every night outside of our room. Zebra's, playing during the day. So, many different animals to name. Really, truly, amazing. I would say to all the Disney fanatics reading these reviews, like myself :), the only downfalls are that this is the farthest resort from everything. It's a good 20-30 minute bus trip to any other Disney places, besides Animal Kingdom. The food in the Mara (their food court)....DISNEY PLEASE CHANGE THE SELECTIONS ONCE IN A WHILE. We were not on a Dining plan this time, it was a quick last minute trip for my Birthday, and we ended up at the food court a lot, because we solely relied on Disney transportation, and they selections did not change the whole 5 days we were there. I though that was odd at a luxury resort, we stayed at Port Orleans two years ago, and not only was their food court larger, but it was constantly changing?? Boma was available with the Buffet but at $50-60 per person that was a little much for a family of 4-2 adults and 2 kids (my kids are over 9). That being said the resort was magnificent, the pool area was beautiful, they had activities for the little ones at the pool, pool bar was pricey but nice. I think the hotel definetely appeals to adults or older children, while the young ones would love the animals, their is no Disney fun in the décor. Our room was lovely, we had a queen bed with bunkbeds, with a balcony.
"Thanks for the upgrade Disney!!"
Originally booked Coronado Springs. Animal Kingdom was above our budget limit. Got a complementary upgrade to AK because CS was being remodeled. The pools - great. Boma restaurant - great. Kilamanjaro Concierge Club - great. Giraffes and zebras outside our balcony - great. If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. There is a moderate amount of hallway noise and you hear the plumbing in adjacent rooms.
"Not so magical experience at the resort"
My girlfriend and I stayed here for three nights and four days. We were so looking forward to our visit — the place looks amazing on the pictures on Disney Website all with African design and all the wild animals you are supposed to see right from your balcony. However, things just didn't seem to go well for our stay at the Jambo House no matter what we decided to do. We arrived late at night, with with a private car booked, as part of the package, through Disney’s website. That being said, one would expect that they would know they have guests arriving and what time, but to our great surprise, there was no door attendant outside or bellboy to meet us at arrival or help us with heavy luggage. We ended up taking our luggage and proceeded to check-in, which was a foreshadow of what to expect at this resort. The check-in process was relatively smooth. The front desk agent who checked us in was also friendly and helpful, and then it went downhill from there. We had erroneously booked a twin room but had also called well ahead (more than 2 weeks) to request queen or king room if ever so possible. Unfortunately, they were not able to accommodate our request the same evening but indicated that we might be able to switch rooms the next night, which seemed reasonable. After checking in, nobody offered any assistance with our luggage, so we once again took our luggage to the elevator and walked around to our designated room. Once we arrived in our room we received another message saying that we would not be able to switch the room next night after all, and that the best they could do is allow us to change the room on our third and final night — we decided to pass as it would be too much hassle just for one night. Upon reaching our room, we discovered that it lacks basic amenities that one would expect. For example, the minibar was empty, there was no complimentary bottled water, no slippers, no shaver, no shower-cap, not even a toothbrush or toothpaste. Thinking they simply must have forgotten to put them in the room, we called the reception to inquire. We were informed, to much of our surprise, that indeed none of the above are provided and we were further advised that for the water we could use the vending machine and they will “try†to find us a couple of toothbrushes. A lot of the normal things you would expect at a resort were DYI and overall it was so below par that I am still in shock for the money they have the gall to charge for the rooms. The design of the common areas at the resort is undoubtedly nice and the decor of the room definitely fits the overall African safari lodge theme, however, at the same time, it is hard to say whether the room is designed to be rustic or also a bit worn out as some of the features seem a bit outdated. The room lacks of electrical sockets and there is no USB plugs, which are commonplace these days, to charge our devices. The bathroom was so small that you had to step around the toilet and almost into the tub to close the door. The room had a lovely view of the greenery, but the photos you see on Disney website of abundant wildlife website are a definite over exaggeration. Overall, the price of the room cannot be justified by what they offer — you are basically paying for the place to sleep and shower, that’s all you get… Unfortunately, housekeeping doesn't seem to have great attention to detail either. It seems as if they only redo the beds for next night and tidy up things at plain sight. It made me question how clean my bedding was, the shower, etc. The laundry leaflet mentioned that if laundry is sent in before 8:30AM then it could be done the same day. However, upon calling the housekeeping around 8:20AM, they said they can not guarantee when somebody could come and pick it up and that it could be returned the same day. Dining at the resort was of subpar quality too. For our last night, we booked a table at the resort restaurant called Jiko, described as a place to go for fine dining experience. Despite having made a reservation, we ended up waiting about 15 minutes for our table. We were almost ready to give up and leave if it wasn’t for the fact that if you don’t eat at one of the resort restaurants, there is not much nearby in terms of dining. The whole dining experience at Jiko deserves another review of its own so I shall not go into much details here. Upon checkout, we again experienced the huge disconnect between the resort and the private car transport service provider. We asked the check-out counter staff if they could help us to confirm that everything is god with our pickup. They had no idea about it whatsoever and didn’t even recognise the company name that was providing the private car service. The check-out staff literally shrugged at us and said: “It has nothing to do with usâ€. How can that be the case if the pick-up was sold and booked through Disney website? Normally, one would expect the resort to arrange and help with the scheduling of pick-up and drop-off, even if the service is provided by a third-party company. We ended up liaising and sorting everything out with the transport company on our own. On the positive side, it is worth mentioning that the private car company, called TransStar, was actually very responsible, accommodating and helpful when we were dealing with them directly. As a traveller of the world, I've been to many places in my life, but never in a resort like this. The service at the resort is poor lacks sincerity. The whole stay was a lot about DIY and no service whatsoever and therefore this place is not for the discerning traveller. It made for not so magical experience and unpleasant stay. It is sad because this place could be so much more. No doubt the tourist hordes will keep the place eternally busy, but I for one will think at least twice before ever staying at a Disney resort ever again. Avoid unless you have zero standards/expectations. The real magic happens at the different Disney parks where you have more control over your own experience and where staff are actually helpful.
"Rooms are small"
Rooms are small if you have more than 2 in your party. Rooms come with bunk beds or 2 queens. Overall good experience but rooms are small, the rooms are cleaned quickly and anything g that you need is quickly completed
Our goal is to visit every Disney park. 3 down and 2 to go! I have to say staying here at the animal kingdom lodge was probably my most favorite. The animals are right there and you can see them right outside. If I every stay at Disney again, I would love to stay here again. What a magical place.
