"Invest in a room with a Savannah view!"
This place is beautiful! Make sure to take time to explore the resort- we didn't see our first giraffes until we went to the lobby and they came very close! Staff was very friendly- I even had someone come up and help me when I was looking at the lobby map. It was amazing to wake up every morning and see animals right outside our bedroom window.
"Our favorite resort!"
We stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani. It was fabulous. We have stayed at the Contemporary, Port Orleans FQ, and POP onsite, as well as a number of off-site properties. AKL is now our favorite in the Orlando area. 1. The pool at Kidani is great--the splash area, water slide, and two hot tubs were fun and not too crowded. We spent a lot of time at the pool as it was in the 80s and did not rain the entire week. You definitely want to plan a non-park day and just explore this property. 2. Restaurants did not disappoint. We had wonderful service. We ate at Sanaa for dinner and had snacks at the pool bar. The food at Sanaa was the best of our trip. 3. Wildlife. We enjoyed the animals, fire pit, and educational activities such as having the kids make giraffe feeders. The staff was very knowledgeable. 4. Standard versus savannah view. We opted for a standard studio and had a room on the second floor in the Rafiki building near the pool. The viewing areas were near our room so we are glad we did not pay for the Savannah view. The room was one that was recently refurbished and it was lovely. The lighting was great. Noise was not an issue--we never heard anyone in other rooms or in the hallway. I had heard that the rooms were such a "far" walk from the lobby, but did not feel this way at all. All along the corridors, there are animals to see. 5. We had also heard about bad bus service. We did not experience this in the five days we visited parks. The wait times are listed, and the buses were rarely crowded. Our longest wait for a bus was 5 minutes, going and returning. Sometimes we stopped at Jambo House to pick up guests, and sometimes we did not. The bus rides seemed fairly quick; Magic Kingdom is the farthest so obviously it was the longest ride. We still came back to the room mid-day for a swim and made it back to the MK for dinner and Extra Magic Hours. We rented DVC points to stay here and paid less than we would have for a moderate resort. We are now thinking of becoming DVC members ourselves. 6. We did not use the gym, spa, or the kid's club, but they are available.
"Deluxe resorts are worth the extra $$"
We make a trip to Disney very often and have for the past 5 years straight. We have stayed off site and stay ed at a value resort and also stayed at Fort Wilderness Campground many times. This year we decided to change it up and stay at a Deluxe resort and see how that treated us along with using the dining plan for the first time. We arrived at the airport in Orlando and proceeded to the magical express area and were able to get into the line and boarded the bus rather quickly. we arrived at the resort and I asked if there was a room with a view of the savanna... as luck would have it they had a rooms and I paid the difference for the upgrade. The room was ready and we sent straight to it to throw some of our items down and head to the parks! The room was great....much larger than the rooms at the art of animation and much more theming used in this resort and all of the rooms. The room had a balcony that overlooked the "savanna" and there were always animals out roaming around....zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, birds, etc. The kids loved this! we went down to the Mara which is the quick service place in the resort...it was great and they have the very popular zebra domes here...so bonus! Next it was time to head to the parks and we headed to the bus stop area which is not too far from the front door. the buses were always very prompt and we didn't have the HUGE lines like you always have at the value resorts. this was a great thing...I never had to stand on a bus this trip...always had a seat, which was the opposite when we stayed at the art of animation last year! the while place is very grand and themed very nicely. some people don't like this resort due to it being far away, but we really didn't even notice that, they buses take you straight to everything and I couldn't tell the time difference from any other of the places that we have stayed. I would recommended and I would stay here again!
"Furthest From Anything"
Animal Kingdom Lodge is closest to, well, Animal Kingdom. The buses to the Disney parks do not come as frequently as the All Star Resorts. Plan to see one bus approximately every 30 minutes, instead of every 20 as advertised. A trip to Hollywood Studios and Epcot takes about 20 minutes and Magic Kingdom takes about 30 minutes. We had to get to the bus stop really early because we always get to the Disney parks at park open. Hint: To get the first bus get out there at 6:45am because the buses are dispatched at 7am every day.
In my opinion this resort is super if you have children in your party. The proximity to the animals combine with extra activities to make a great experience for kids. The two main restaurants are also very good and the pool is great. It's a winner!
