"Amazing week at Animal Kingdom Lodge!"
All I can say is that we loved everything about the hotel. From the moment we set foot on the hotel, we were transported to a whole other place (Africa). The lobby is simply breathtaking, the walk to our rooms was nice and the room itself had everything we needed. Our housekeeper, Nora was super nice and helpful. Our kids loved the pool, specially the slide and the activities by the pool. The food court was small compared to other Disney hotels, but they had plenty more restaurants to chose from. Our favorite was Jiko, where we had a delicious anniversary dinner, while our kids enjoyed themselves at Simba's Cubhouse! I think that was the best part, knowing that our kids were super well cared for while we had some adult only time. We will definitely be back!
The room was damp, our socks were wet by the time we walked over to the balcony. It was humid wet. The room was small and the bathroom was also tiny. The decor was dark and it was not luxurious at all. However seeing the giraffes on our balcony was pretty cool. The staff, restaurants, activities, offered as well as the pool was phenomenal! Not worth the price.
"Wonderful 3 days at Animal Kingdom Lodge"
Rather than a cruise we took my octogenarian mother to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for her birthday. For us, it did not require any air travel, was close to home, had exceptional food, walking was limited (could get a wheel chair when needed), and she loves watching African animals. We did book very early for a room overlooking the savanna (wish we had booked even earlier for a room with a separate bedroom). But we did not spend too much time in the room so it really did not matter that much. We also did the Wanyama safari, offered by the lodge, which included a rather unique South African gourmet dinner with wine pairing following the actual drive through the savannas, all done with a fun Disney flair. We were probably the minority in that we did not visit any of the the parks durning our stay, only enjoyed the lodge which was huge and had all the amenities anyone could ask for. When we did check out we stopped by Disney Springs (renting a wheel chair) for lunch which was a great way to end our visit. For my older group the lodge was all we needed; however, a younger crowd would probably want to also visit a Disney park.
"We expected better."
So, I decided to take my mom on a trip to Disney World. This was my 5th time and her 6th time going. It was also our first time staying at a deluxe resort and it did not meet our expectations. The decorations are nice and the staff are nice, but nothing else seems "deluxe" about it. Upon our arrival (which was right at check-in time), our room was not even ready. We were told that we would be sent a text when it was ready. So, we waited in the lobby. 45 minutes passed, no text had been received. I used to do housekeeping at a hotel and we had to finish rooms in less than 20 minutes. So, I went back to the front desk to ask about the status of the room. It was finished, but for whatever reason, no one had bothered to let us know about it. The room itself was smaller than we expected for a "deluxe" hotel. The lighting in the bathroom was quite dim. We found large ants in the bathtub two days in a row. One of the towels also had dark streaks on it, as if it hadn't been washed. The door to the balcony was very difficult to open (it seemed to stick a lot, or require a lot of force to even move). The beds were comfortable, at least. There was also a lot of walking involved. Walking from the bus to the lobby to the elevator to our room seemed to be a mile long. That doesn't count the amount of walking it takes to go do laundry, or go down to The Mara, or to the other hotel building. It was very inconvenient that some things weren't more centrally located, or that there weren't multiple options (ex. two places to do laundry, instead of one). (Normally, I wouldn't complain about walking at all, but adding that to walking 10+ miles a day in the parks plus having a chronic pain condition did not make it enjoyable.) We did see some animals, but it wasn't really any different than seeing them at a zoo. All in all, we expected better from a deluxe resort, especially given what was paid for it and given that past stays at Moderate and Value resorts provided better accommodations and amenities than this. (In comparison, we stayed at a non-Disney hotel the night before flying down to Florida, full kitchen suite, larger room, for half the price). It is questionable whether or not we will even return to Disney at this point, but I do not think we will return to this resort.
"Best Disney hotel "
Stayed here with my family over the summer! When you walk in, there is the proper wow factor, the lobby is spectacular! The pool area is great, and just amazing to be amongst the animals whilst sun bathing! I couldn't imagine staying here without a Savannah room. Waking up and seeing the giraffes and zebra was just unbelievable. The food here is fantastic, with very friendly staff. There are frequent shuttle buses to the Disney parks, however can get very busy in the peak times. It is very expensive but so worth the money, this hotel is completely magical and makes the Disney experience even better!!
