Over Kauai Beach Resort

"Good price but average rooms and so-so service"
For proximity to the Lihue airport, this resort can't be beat; it's about 10 minutes away and why we chose it: to arrive after long trip from the East Coast and just collapse and relax to await the arrival of the rest of our group before setting up for longer term stay in private house. And for that, it was perfect. Even so, this resort had a lot of flaws that made our stay just average: 1) While the public spaces were nice, the hallways to the rooms and rooms themselves were just so-so. Functional but not very enticing. That was ok since we were outside most of the time. 2) It's clear the resort's beach is not for swimming. But it's still a beautiful beach--or would be if the trash was picked up. There was litter everywhere--and the only beach in Kauai where we found so much debris. It's a shame because watching the sunrise on the beach is magical (or would be if you can overlook the litter). 3) Although the staff is friendly, the hotel's rules make it seem like a strict school. It takes a long time to check in because the reception staff has to list all the rules (heaven forbid you lose the plastic card for the beach towel! You'll be forced to pay $30 --even though the towel you trade it in for has to cost far less than that!). 4) Service at restaurant is hit-and-miss. While breakfast was fine, dinner was horrific even though the restaurant and bar was not crowded. It took more than 30 minutes to get our drinks (not complicated ones to make) and even longer to get our meal once we ordered. And the food was just so-so. Poolside service and food was much better. 5) The pool was attractive, but there were far too few umbrellas and the first afternoon we could not find a place to stay in the shade so had to leave the pool to avoid getting burned. It seemed as if the hotel was being deliberately stingy for such a critical beach item.
"AWESOME 50th Birthday Stay"
We just got back from Aqua Kauai Beach Resort and had an AWESOME experience! I read up on this place and I'm glad I picked it for my 50th birthday! I guess I should state this was an adult trip with no kids, not a family vacation. I was hesitant to stay here as more than a few reviews said the staff was very unfriendly but that was not the case for us. The staff was very accommodating. The night we arrived after 12 hours of travel our room was on the first floor off the pool and the people next door were screaming at their kids so we picked up our bags and went right back to the front desk. They upgraded us to the 3rd floor lagoon view room without hesitation! The bed was like sleeping on a cloud! The entire staff was polite and said Aloha every time you passed them. The grounds were pristine and well-kept and there is a nice path right to the beach, which is not suitable for swimming but you can walk along the shore and get your feet wet. The only thing I didn't like was the path to the beach was also the smoking area so sometimes you had to pass by smokers to get to the beach. Though I'm happy to say there was only twice in our week stay that people were smoking. They offer free valet parking which we took advantage of and the total resort fee for parking, WIFI, and general amenities came to $182 give or take a few cents with tax. The resort is about 7 minutes from the airport however there is nothing around it so if you don't want to just sit by the pool and eat in the resort [which I thought was a little pricey] you will need to rent a car. We had a car so we could explore on our own and we did a few tours. Beware of the concierge on site they work for Expedia, not the resort, and when I stopped in to ask for some dining suggestions he was less than thrilled to assist us as we had pre-booked everything either through our Costco Travel package or on our own. We had mentioned that we had a great breakfast at Kountry Kitchen and he turned his nose up and said Oh well you are mid westerners so I guess you like that sort of thing. The other lady that was there the rest of our trip was much more helpful and gave us some coupons for a few places to try as well as a map where she pointed out places of interest. The day we left we explained that our flight was not until 9pm and they allowed us to keep our bags in their storage locker and even said we could hang on to our towels if we wanted to hang by the pool after noon check out. Vacation is what you make it so if you are looking for a great place to stay with great guest service I highly recommend Kauai Beach Resort. I know we will be back.
This place has beautiful setting along the coast. Our garden view room was a little cramped but the bathroom was a nice size to accommodate a wheelchair easily. Pool is nice with a waterfall and slide for the kids. Has bar and grill outside for dining outdoors and inside restaurants. A good place for couples and families with kids. They have free parking and valet parking. This place charges a surcharge daily on top of the room rate which I didn't like. I like to book a room with the total price per day including all fees up front but this one breaks it down and you will pay $25 a service fee a day plus taxes on top of that. Room rates are little high by the time all that is included. Grounds are kept neat but rooms could have a little updating but still very comfortable and quiet. A nice stay.
"EXACTLY WHAT YOU LOOKING FOR ON THE ISLAND"
I was here for the first time and the Hotel is very nice easy to get too from the Airport also you get that Tropical feeling .If you are looking for relaxation and to be away from the brick and mortar buildings this is the place for you. And if you like to watch the Sun rise. The shaved 'ice' is great also at the Hotel. The rooms were very clean and customer service was great'Laura 'at the front desk was very good.Breakfast was good but the evening menu for dinner needs more variety.Just so you know when eating at the buffet they open the doors and some times the birds will come to your table do not feed them. so sit inside if you don't want to be bothered.Inside at night try the 'Hot wings' if you like 'hot' food if not tell them no sauce. At the bar by the pool go for happy hour you get specials on food and drinks. The manager'Grant James' was very informative about the Hotel and what it has to offer. There is a $25.00 resort fee which other hotels charge also but it includes in and out valet parking other hotels are higher.I will stay here again. Will' the manager of the night shift restaurant was great too. Also if you have kids this hotel has a water slide with a life guard just for the kids.
"Disappointing at best"
Got a room outside of noisy maintenance shed. Supposed to be garden view. We are Marriott Vacation Club Point Owners. Called for help and got no answer to the call within an hour-and-a-half (and counting). No internet for a day and a half (still waiting). Was told by their offsite technical support that the router to our particular area is broken and would be fixed within an hour--no service and no call back. Finally, they don't even supply a DVD player. This is a Motel 6 with nicer landscape!
