Over Kauai Beach Resort

"Clean, friendly, beautiful"
We stayed at KBR for our honeymoon. Staff are very friendly, rooms are nice and clean. The room was literally spotless every time they cleaned it. (We had the do not disturb sign on a few days- they actually call your room and tell you they attempted your room and if you want them to come back to call before 2 pm) They have a safe, coffee maker, mini fridge in room, if you want a microwave they are in the lobbies of each floor. We had a "mountain garden view" which also allowed us to see the ocean as well. The balcony is nice to have. The coffee in the room is pretty weak. Usually hit the cafe on the main floor. They have a daily morning special- coffee and a muffin for 5.99. We had breakfast twice here. The buffet is $24 a person for breakfast. They do have quite the selection, but I can't eat that much. So I would recommend ordering a la carte. The pools looked nice though we never went in them (we explored every inch of the island we could). The overall landscaping of this place is immaculate. This hotel is away from thick tourism and does require driving to excursions, I suggest a rental car. Included in the resort fees is parking- you pay the same whether you use self park or valet so choose what you prefer. We self parked a lot and always found a covered spot unless we returned late at night. The beach here is not swimmable though it's okay for short walks.
My husband and I stayed here during our honeymoon earlier this month. Our room was absolutely amazing (we had one of the pool view rooms). The room itself was spacious, but we also had a private lanai outside. Not only was our room a "pool view" room, we could also see the ocean from our lanai! I don't think we met a single rude or stand-offish staff member at this hotel. The only unpleasant encounter we had was in the early morning (6:30a, when their restaurant opens) at breakfast. The "servers" in the early morning were sub-par and didn't match the level of service we received during lunch or dinner. Not sure of the reasoning behind that, but it happened every single morning. A short example would be lack of re-filling our water glasses; we would wait at least 15 minutes each and every morning and would get up from the table ourselves in hopes of finding a water pitcher or dispenser somewhere. This happened every one of the 10 mornings we were there. Yes, we drink a lot of water :) Other than the servers in the morning, every other of the dozens of staff members we interacted with were incredible. From housekeeping to front desk, they all were so friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend this place---a lot of bang for your buck!! Four stars instead of five due to the miscommunication among their own people about the holds that remain on our credit card.
My wife and I stayed for business and extended for pleasure. This may not be the most luxurious resort on the island and despite its name, lacks a swimmable beach but it is now top of my list of places to stay on Kauai. Simply put, all the staff are marvelous: friendly, efficient, professional and brimming with aloha. I will happily forgo a bathrobe and a pillow chocolate for warm smiles and little kindnesses. The room was perfectly comfortable. The restaurant served good honest food. The bar staff were welcoming and attentive. I mean seriously, what more do you need? This is a delightful, well-run, friendly resort on one of the world's most spectacular islands. Enjoy!
"The Pool Sold us"
We just got back from staying at this wonderful property. Being in Lihue you are not far from the airport but there is no airport noise. This came in very handy as the traffic on Kauai is pretty busy especially at rush hour. There was not much around us but the hotel had pretty much everything we needed plus we had a rental car to get around. We would do our drive in the mornings to wherever we were going and then spend the rest of the day in the pool. The pool was our favorite thing!
This place is a very comfortable and relaxing place to stay. Overall, I found it to be pretty good though I did find that the beds were somewhat soft so I would not be able to stay there too long. The food at the restaurant was good though I didn't appreciate queuing for a table at the restaurant when there were plenty of empty tables available. It looked like they had a staffing problem. Being in a large group of 10 and sitting at one table we were surprised to be slugged with a "large group" surcharge. What a rip off! We didn't read the fine print. Next time we ate we broke into smaller groups and guess what, no surcharge! So beware that if you are in a group of 4 or more don't sit together. Being a resort we also got slugged and additional $22 per day. Why don't they just add it to the initial price? The pool area was very nice as was the bar around it. We spent a lot of time there. I wouldn't mind going back to Kauai as we only saw half of the island but am in two minds as to whether or not to stay there again. This place is actually quite nice. It's unfortunate that we sometimes tend to remember the bad experiences more than the good.
