"Very Nice Hotel with a beautiful Beach"

We stayed here late August/September 2016 with family and friends. We had a beautiful ocean view room on the top floor of the tower. Note, though, that we had originally booked a "cottage" that we were really unhappy with. When booking I was not made aware of the huge differences between the "cottages" and the tower rooms. We were very nicely changed rooms by the management. Positives: - Easy to get to from the airport with our rental car - Gorgeous beach for swimming (though, you can feel the current) - Pool area and bar is nice, though a little dated - Tower room we stayed in looked recently renovated and was really nice - Comfortable beds - Close to historic lahaina and whalers village with shuttles available to take you there - Cute ice cream shop/cafe and general store right on site - Fitness facility with some free classes - Tennis courts - Easy to find lounge chairs by the pool - No "resort fees" - Nicely landscaped and maintained - Parking was reasonable - Friendly staff - Non pretentous - Easy to get towels by the pool - Lovely and spacious lobby Not so positives - Restaurant food was ok, though expensive and restaurant closed very early - "Cottages" are VERY dated and seem musty. Very "vintage", I guess, if you are into that. They seem to be orininal from the 60s with shaky windows, old bathrooms and smelly. They look to be rennovating some of them and hopefully will be lovely when completed as you can walk right out of your room to the beach. - Beach is absolutley beautiful and great for swimming, but be aware of the strong current - Luau every night that you might hear dependent on the location of your room - Luau itself was sup par to others I've attended - Junky jewellry store off the lobby could be re-imagined to better use the space

"Beautiful spot"

We showed up early and the room was not ready, we were supposed to stay in a cottage and we were offered a tower room. I am glad we did, the cottages are more like slums, there seemed to be 4 apartments per cottage and while they looked cozy on the website, i would have been disappointed. Our tower room was simply amazing ! The parking lot , while being huge, was always full and at night they sell parking for their LuAu's and it gets over full, often we had to walk for a while just to get back to the lobby from our car parking. The bar is right on the beach and the sunset Views are Amazing , we could see whales from our tables (they were far) the food and drinks were good there.****They messed up on one of our meals, my wife has a seafood allergy and they still gave her the meal with the allergy food on the plate (I do not think they take food allergies seriously here, she could have died *wake up guys*) Anyway, they re did the meals and then gave us our plates again for free, but mine had 1/2 the portion now?!?!? The waiter said i would have to pay for it if i wanted more, so my wife and i just said screw it, we ate it and left.

"I hope to return soon! "

We enjoyed our vacation here immensely. My list of positives is long, and I can only report on 2 negatives. -- Positives: Beach: The hotel is on a really amazing beach with nice swimming and no crowd (unlike the beach at the Sheraton which is small and super-crowded). The neighboring properties are not close at all, so the beach feels like a private beach. If you have $50, you can rent a cabana for a day (on site) or 2 beach chairs and an umbrella for 8 days (from the Snorkel Store which is a 10 minute walk away). Location: Right on the ocean and set between a golf course and another resort, it is peaceful. You do not need a car, as you can walk along the beach walk North or South to various resort's restaurants for a large variety of eating options. Transportation: There is a free bus to Whaler's Village and a bus to Lahaina that was 2 or 3 dollars per person. These buses are on a schedule and pick up right in front of the hotel. The bell staff has the schedule. Also, uber X picked us up a few times to go to a farther restaurant and to go to the airport when leaving for good. Room: Ours was really great. It was an ocean view room in the tower. Nice furnishings and clean. We appreciated having a fridge and coffee maker. The safe was nice and fit laptops. The balcony was comfortable. There was plenty of closet and drawer space. Other than the bed, the only place to sit inside the room was the desk chair. On site food: We enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant, though the buffet seemed very overpriced at $25 per person. (You can order from a menu instead.) We didn't eat at the restaurant for lunch or dinner. The ice cream parlor was great! Friendly staff with good coffee, snacks, and sandwiches. Reasonably priced and convenient. They close at 8pm, which is earlier than I'd prefer. The on-site gift store has a grocery section that does not rip you off... amazing! The store has wine, beer, spirits, cheese, crackers, salads, groceries. The prices are similar to the ABC stores on the island. While not "cheap", the prices are way less expensive than most stores like this at resorts. Wifi: I had a good experience here. The free wifi worked really well in my room. I was able to watch Netflix on my phone easily on the wifi. Maybe I lucked out with room location, but it was as good as a solid business hotel in this regard. A bunch of other items: No resort fee! Computers for guests in lobby. (Free 15 minutes per day and free printing up to 5 pages.) Changing room option for late flights (ask at the desk about this). Exercise room was nice. Friendly staff -- Negatives: Bed: Mine was uncomfortable. Maybe I just prefer a firmer mattress. Coffee in the Restaurant: Inconsistently made. It was good some mornings and bad others. -- Overall, this hotel delivers for a very nice vacation. I would love to stay again sometime.

"Hot and Cold"

Just like you'll read in most of the other reviews here, this place runs hot and cold - at the same time. Great location. Decent facility. It appears to me that some good management would be able to whip this place into shape, but it is currently over-run with lackluster employees. The GOOD: - Great location. Amazing Beach. Friendly pool guys. Cheap breakfast (if you eat early). Whales jumping in the water while eating breakfast. Beautiful sunsets. Great snorkeling nearby. - I recommend splurging $50 for the cabana on the beach. It was worth it. The BAD: - The staff are generally grumpy and reluctant to do anything. For example, we stayed here for a week and no one bothered to learn our names. We had some friendly encounters with staff, but generally they seemed like they were working in the wrong industry. - The hostesses at the restaurant were out to lunch. They were making people stand around and wait for 10-15 minutes even though the restaurant was only 1/3 full. Even when it was empty, they would walk me to a dark corner table instead of the multiple available oceanfront tables that were vacant. I ended up just ignoring the hostesses and claiming the table that I wanted. - The hot tub and the poolside bar closes way too early. - The food at the restaurant was really bad. $8 for breakfast was the cheapest on the island, but you get what you pay for. "Scrambled Eggs" were really just a cold, watery omelette. Pineapple was unripe and tasteless. So were the rest of the melons in the fruit bowl. How hard can it be for the kitchen staff to manage their pineapple and melon deliveries so they can serve ripe fruit? This is Hawai'i after all! - We ordered our trip through a Costco package. What I didn't realize was that the Costco rooms were inferior to the other rooms in the hotel. The other rooms on our floor had beautiful woodworking separating the kitchen/bathroom from the rest of the room. It included some shelving for things like toothbrushes, hand cream etc. Our room didn't have any of this. We spent the week with toothbrushes, cups, toothpaste, deodorant etc. all spread out over the only counter in the room. Our tiny bathroom also had peeling paint from the ceiling and the shower leaked all over the floor. These weren't big problems, but enough to make you think you're staying in a second-rate hotel. Something that I think good management could fix. The UGLY: - They had a problem with their water supply that required construction crews to fix out in the street. Rather than notify us, they just simply shut off the water to the hotel. There was no running water for quite a while during one afternoon. We had returned to the hotel to take showers and get ready for a fancy dinner out as a family. However, none of us could shower. I understand that emergencies like this happen some time. Water lines break and no one can control it. But what bothered me was that the management didn't bother to inform us in any way either before, during, or after. Why? I mean, shortly after the repair, we had grey water with chunks of black stuff running out of our sink. Yet no one bothered to tell us not to use the water for a while or to run the tap for a few minutes to allow the gunk to clear out. I still don't know if it was safe to drink. I see this as a management problem more than anything. - I called the day before arriving and made two requests with Customer Service. One was to have a lei ready and waiting for my wife upon arrival to celebrate her birthday and our anniversary. The other was to have the roll-away bed set up in the room since we were arriving late at night and didn't want to wait for the night staff to have to do this. I was assured over the phone that these would be done for me. Guess what? Neither was done. There was no note in our file about this either. The person checking us in at the front desk not only failed to apologize, but made me seem like I was crazy for assuming such things would be done. The roll-away bed finally appeared after waiting for a long while (tired from travel), but the lei never did appear. These were not big requests. At the very least, I would have expected Customer Service to follow up with me some time during our week-long stay to make things right. No such luck. In summary, this place is riding on it's legacy and it's amazing location. I hope the management finds some way to turn things around and make this a vacation experience worth bragging about. It wouldn't take too much. Just get some people in there that actually care about the details, go the extra mile, and WANT to work in the service industry.

"beautiful area"

we were there the 12th of march and unfortunately not long enough. the place is so lovely and looking out at the ocean is so great. we stayed in the cottages, at first it was alittle stinky, but they sent a fan over besides the ac and it was fine. the room wasn,t real fancy, but was more than adequate. I think my only wish would be it had more places on the property to eat. not that theres not resturants everywhere, but to be able to dine on property would be nice, I guess to have variety. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone
