Kennebunkport is een klein, charmant plaatsje aan de noordoostkust van Amerika op zo'n 200 kilometer ten noorden van Boston. Op uw route door het noordoosten van Amerika is het een fijne tussenstop.
We stayed at this hotel as part of a trip around America. We liked the location as we could walk straight out into the town and parking was easy, although that may have been to do with the time of year. The interior design of the Inn has an attractive nautical theme that continues into the guest rooms. Our room was very compact with little space for our luggage. We asked for a larger room but were told they were fully booked, even though it was midweek, so we managed. Our room looked out over the kitchen yard and each morning we were woken at 6am by the kitchen fan being turned on and it was so loud there was no chance of going back to sleep. An unwelcome early start for this part of our trip. I'm sure there were more comfortable rooms but we were very disappointed with ours.
"The best hotel location in Kennebunkport!"
What a great location, right in the heart of Kennebunkport! All of the shopping, sightseeing and restaurants are on your doorstep, and the hotel has it's own parking too! From the moment you arrive the welcome is genuine. The hotel looks just like the website, which is always encouraging. Our room, a premier king, was spacious and cosy at the same time. The bathroom could have been bigger, but did the job. One of the greatest attractions was the gas-log fire with the easiest of controls. We had expected that dressing gowns would have been provided in a premier king room, but this was not the case. Neither were they available on request. This needs to change. On the first evening we ate in the hotel restaurant which is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The service was good (could have been friendlier and more informed) but the food quality and quantity exceeded our expectations. The wine list was very interesting although quite pricey.....but that seems commonplace in New England generally. Oddly the most expensive wines are often the American ones. Breakfast was a different matter. We opted for the included continental breakfast, not least because we are not big breakfast eaters. On a long holiday it's important to watch just how much food you're consuming and so a light continental breakfast goes down well. But the Kennebunkport Inn takes the definition of "light" to the ultimate extreme. In fact the breakfast options were almost non-existent: coffee, tea, cold tasteless pastries and the smallest croissants I have ever seen, Greek yogurt, oats, water (no juice of any kind), apples and a banana if you're lucky. And you have to sit in the bar area, away from the "linen tableclothed a la carte breakfasters". On the first morning we asked for some toast as there was no bread of any sort offered in the continental option, strangely. This request was greeted with a reaction of great surprise from one of the waiting staff, as though we had asked for caviar. Our two slices of economy "sliced" brown toast duly arrived along with a bill for $5.40! This really did stick on my craw, but I agreed not to make a fuss. This is such a pity. The hotel is the best place to stay in Kennebunkport, in our opinion. We walked all around the town and the beach areas and did not see anywhere we would rather have stayed. But the continental breakfast needs fixing. It was a mean, unappetising, segregated experience and leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. So, my advice is don't be put off, stay at the hotel, but either take the a la carte breakfast or eat outside.....there are many places to go. And if enough fellow travellers complain, who knows, the management may make a few changes!!
"Staff and room were fine - breakfast needs improvement"
The Inn is centrally located, and staff is very helpful. Room was fine, but the breakfast included with the room was pitiful- needs improvement. It was self serve at the bar in the dining room - which was fine. Yogurt, granola and a mini muffin do not a breakfast make. Coffee and tea were available, but no juice. Hot items need not be supplied, but at the least cold cereal selection should be made available.
"Good location, friendly staff, but the rooms ..."
It's really hard to understand the reviews that say 'fantastic' and 'wonderful.' There are lots of places that earn this sort of comment, but this really isn't one of them. They are gracious, they are accomodating, the restaurant is ok, it is well located, but it is not a 4* inn. The problem is the rooms. We booked a deluxe room, but there is no definition of deluxe that applies to the rooms we stayed in. Avoid the old section behind the desk if it is humanly possible. The room we had shared a common wall with the kitchen dishwashers, and if listening to them till 11pm wasn't enough, the garbage trucks came round the next morning at 7, just outside our window. The room itself was okay - worn fabrics, old carpet, a day bed that creaked loudly whenever you sat on it, and linoleum in the bathroom probably from the year it was invented. We moved to the newer building which was an improvement, but not by much. A more modern bathroom, but no desk and only one chair. My wife suggested that they should have had the person who furnished the room stay in it and see how he felt about it then.
We loved this place and wished we had stayed longer than one night. The rooms are small (especially for America) but have plenty of storage and are beautifully decorated. The reception staff were really helpful. We had a continental breakfast included and it was just what we needed. Fresh croissants and muffins yogurt and plenty of tea and coffee. The hotel is situated right in the heart of Kennebunkport which is stunning. Very quaint with lots of lovely gift shops. We visited the Clam shack for lunch and had lobster roll and fries!! Not cheap but delicious. The outdoor terrace was great and we sat out relaxing on a couple of occasions. Despite it being October we had coffee outside one evening next to the fire with heaters and blankets. Fab. We would definitely go back
