"NYC trip "
This hotel is very convenient for all the sights of NYC. It was clean and comfortable with good air conditioning. Beds were the most comfortable we experienced in USA. The rooms were a pleasure to get back to after sightseeing. We didn't have breakfast at hotel. The only real downside was the elevators. There are two and one was out of service most days. There are service lifts to use as alternatives. I would definitely stay at this hotel if we visit NYC again.
"Ideal Location Awful Staff"
Stayed in this hotel for four nights, the location is very good for Times Square. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable, but we had to turn off the air conditioning at night because it was so noisy, which made for an uncomfortable nights sleep. There was a kitchenette in the room with a fridge, microwave and sink which was a little tatty but we never used it. The breakfast was good and the art deco dining room was nice and comfortable, there was plenty of choice and the food was good quality even if I did have to eat it with plastic cutlery (not easy). I was very disappointed that there was no free Wifi, if you wanted it you had to pay an extortionate daily rate, I mean come on every other hotel we had stayed at on this holiday had free wifi and it meant, trying to find out information about local attractions was difficult and we had to go to local restaurants and street hubs to get on the internet. Now for the bit that ruined this hotel, the staff, the only people who were pleasant were the cleaners. When we arrived and checked in we were not told where the restaurant was for breakfast they did not even confirm we had breakfast booked. They then did not like it that we wanted to park our own car, which is a block away in a independant car park, and they wanted us to pay for valet parking. But when we went to leave, we left our bags with the porter and he kept saying he would not be there when we returned and would not give us our receipt for our bags until we tipped him. When we returned a few hours later we already had a taxi to take us to the airport, but when we went in to get our bags the doorman and the porter just kept shouting at us, why had we not asked them to get a taxi and were extremely aggressive. It seems that all these staff want is tips all the time, and I am more than willing to give tips for a service but I find it extremely rude trying to bully guests into a service just to get tips. I would NEVER stay in this hotel again and I would not recommend it as I am sure there are other hotels whose staff are happy to treat their guests with respect.
"Very un-friendly hotel"
Recently stayed at the Belvedere hotel. After an 8 hour flight we had the most coldest welcome from Jose the Receptionist. He did not offer us any information on the hotel such as where the cafe was for breakfast, where the laundry room was or about the happy hour between 5-6pm for the wine! Room - The room was large but very noisy i know we were in New York but the noise of sirens was awful and woke us up in the night and we were on the top floor! We were very disappointed that there were no china mugs to drink our coffee from or any glasses to have a proper cold drink out of, we did request these but only got plastic glasses! I requested 1 extra pillow and after returning from dinner found 1 pillow placed on the bed that had a large black dirty foot print on it! Lastly about the room, i was amazed to find that there was no wifi in the standard rooms, yes i know the superior rooms have wifi but surely in 2017 wifi should be available to all, even though the room was a standard room it wasn't cheap! Breakfast - Never got a good morning from any of the staff who worked during breakfast service. Especially the lady who we had to give our room number to! I have never been in a hotel that runs out of mugs and cutlery and only offer you paper cups and plastic cutlery! The food was often sparse and we had to wait until eggs, pancakes, sausages and bacon were replenished!! Lastly our checkout! - On checking out the receptionist (man) looked very disappointed that we had NO extra charges to pay! We wasn't asked if we had a nice stay or wished us a pleasant journey home! The icing on the cake was the bell porter - the receptionist said we could leave our 2 suitcases in the luggage hold for 2 hours whilst we went and had lunch before our taxi arrived. The bell porter was so rude to us he told us to go and wait behind the line until he had finished with another guest! When he did deal with us he asked what our room number had been and that he wouldn't be there when we returned and was we pleased with his service and was his service ok? We knew what he was after! We took the luggage ticket and went for lunch. When we returned he was still there! We gave him our ticket and he brought out the 2 suitcases he asked again if he was giving good service before i could reply he asked me to give him $5 i was in shock said no and walked out! I would never recommend this hotel and was disappointed in how rude and unfriendly all the staff were maybe working for the Belvedere isn't a happy place to work this certainly reflects on the staff!
We chose this hotel initially for two reasons: firstly, It is ideally located for easy access to Times Square and all its obvious delights. On top of that we knew that Times Sq was where you can catch the Hop-on-hop-off bus service and also the coach for our day trip to Washington. Secondly it is also close to the 50 street subway which was our chosen method of getting to and from the JFK airport. Now onto the hotel itself - it's very well appointed in the reception area, looks like marble floors, the staff are polite as you'd expect and also helpful. The bedroom we had was on the seventh floor, so not too high up, and it came with a free-to-use safe and air-conditioning (a little bit noisy at night). The flat screen TV was good to have and we developed a liking for watching 'Family Feud ' while there. The best bit though is the great breakfast which is buffet style and has everything you could want - bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, fruit salad, cakes etc. and of course unlimited coffee. Certainly one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in and can heartily recommend it.
"New York Family weekend"
We stayed in this hotel for july 4th weekend. Location is excellent, just a few blocks from everything. Restaurants nearby (You HAVE to try the small italian restaurant next to the hotel) If you go by car, you can park your car in a parking 2 blocks away with a very good price (around 45 dollars the night) Everything about the hotel was good BUT the AC. It was so noisy that it was very difficult to fall asleep because of it.
