"A Quiet Retreat in the Middle of the Masses"
We recently stayed at The Muse over President's Day Weekend - and we loved it!!! Location: Perfect. Literally a half-block east from Times Square, it was well within walking distance to all of the action...and yet, we didn't hear any street noise when we were in the room. Now, granted, we were on the 12th floor - which I highly recommend. Room: We had a king-sized room, and although small, it was perfect for Hubby and I. A (small) closet, desk, and TV dresser/cabinet completed the room. No sitting chairs, but a small bench at the foot of the bed assisted with getting dressed. A very nice & spacious bathroom with dual sinks & plenty of counter space. The window shades in the room were room-darkening, which was nice. My only complaints - and they are minor - is that I wish there was a full-length mirror in the room...a lady likes to see how her shoes look with an outfit when getting ready to go out on the town. My other complaint is that the closet door was NOT a slider door, but on a hinge - that was set to automatically swing close, which made it difficult while getting dressed...the door was constantly closing on us!!! Amenities: Gosh, where do I start?? Complimentary wine in the evenings, which was delicious...a yoga mat, umbrella, and two plush robes in the closet...delicious-smelling soaps, lotion and shampoo in the bathroom...a very well-appointed gym on the 2nd floor... Staff: Outstanding. Always friendly and accommodating. The doormen were especially gracious, and we enjoyed chatting with them every day.
My husband and I arrived to the Kimpton Muse with two of our friends (who were going to have some drinks with us on our balcony). The front desk employees were beyond amazing! They were so friendly, warm and were generous enough to not only give us free drinks to the hotel's bar, but also give our friends free drinks as well! We arrived to our room and it was very clean and well maintained. The staff also included a bottle of prosecco and some delicious cupcakes for our celebration! Our balcony was large and very comfortable. The only downside was the size of the bathroom (felt it was a little small). We were on our way to the hotel's wine hour and decided to take the stairs because the elevator was extremely busy. While going down the stairs, I fell and I ended up with multiple fractures in my leg(I did not know this until the day after), I told myself it was a very bad sprain and decided to stick out the night. The hotel was quick to come to my aid, providing me with a wheelchair and any assistance needed. Though I wasn't able to get any sleep because of the pain I was in, I do remember the bed being extremely comfortable. We ordered some in room breakfast the next morning and unfortunately were pretty disappointed with it. We have dined in many NYC hotels and have usually had extremely yummy breakfasts, but unfortunately the Muse's breakfast was underwhelming. Croissants tasted bland, eggs were overcooked, and generally lacking in flavor. Overall (despite my fracture) we enjoyed the Muse. The hotel rooms are in good condition and clean. The employees are probably the friendliest I've encountered and their service is great. Hoping they will improve their menu, but we will definitely be back...They were also nice enough to provide us with a complimentary night (in the future) so we could enjoy the Muse again- hopefully without having any fractures :) So we will be re-booking with them soon!
"Excellent Location; Great Staff, nice rooms!"
Joined some friends for a weekend in the city. We all had King Deluxe rooms! We had a very nice room on 46th street with a view of the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, day after the recent Feb 2017 blizzard. Streets were cleared and it was an easy drive into the City. The bellman and the front desk staff were great, quickly taking care of our car. Our room was ready early due to blizzard cancellations, and looked to be newly rennovated. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was large, well lit. Lighting was quite sufficent due to LED bulbs. Lamps were all dimmable and there was a neat LED light sculpture flanking each bed which made for some great mood lighting. We had some great meals, saw some shows, and for shows, this was an excellent central location. Good subway access and walking access to Times Square, theaters, Rockefeller Center, MOMA, etc. Criticisms, the restaurant/bar NIOS was never well staffed. On Sunday morning, due to not enough staff, after sitting at the bar for 15 minutes, we just left and went to McDonalds around the corner...not our preference, but wait at NIOS was looking interminable and expensive. Checkout seemed to be a long process. Not so bad for us, but when we were leaving, although there were three working the front desk, looked like about 10 people waiting to check out. Cannot say for sure, but the culprit seemed to be the software they were using, very difficult to combine transactions or make adjustments. Otherwise, it was a great stay, and we would stay again. Check out the Cuban restaurant Margon, three doors down. Looks like a hole in the wall, and probably is, but the people, food and coffee were fabulous. The towels and complimentary bathrobes were very stiff, hard water and detergent. The Gaiam yoga mat was a nice touch. Down dog, baby!
"NYC foodie-theatre-sightsee weekend"
Kimpton Muse was first-rate. Recently renovated, king executive room was spacious with a great view, front desk staff/concierge all excellent. Service very accommodating, whether reducing rate on reservation as trip got closer and specials popped up, adding coffee maker to room, etc. Will definitely stay here next trip - convenient to theatre district/Times Square yet off from the bright lights and noise. Luxury venue for same price as many chains that have less.
"CHECK OUT THE BATHROOMS!"
The Kimpton Muse is my all-time favorite New York hotel. You couldn't ask for a better location. It's an easy walk to theaters, museums and shopping. Check-is fast and friendly, and the staff very helpful. They're ready to help you any way they can- from directions, restaurant recommendations, even a late checkout. The lobby is small but inviting. You can help yourself to coffee or tea in the morning and you'll be offered a glass of wine around 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Check out the bathrooms in the back of the lobby for a chuckle. Each stall has a name and is decorated to match the theme. There is Envy, Passion, Macho and a couple of others. Unusual and very creative. Oh, yes! This is a hotel, so I'm obligated to say something about rooms. They're clean and quiet with comfortable beds. The decor is modern and un-fussy. No heavy bedspreads to struggle with when you're ready for sleep.
