"Excellent hotel and perfect location"
Stayed here 21st-28th November, it was the most perfect hotel for us in the heart of everything that we wanted to explore, with Times Square a 5 minute walk one way and Central Park another 5 minute walk in the opposite direction. You can even see Times Square as you walk out the front of the hotel. The hotel room is basic but your in New York, your not there to spend time in the room it's just somewhere to sleep and rest after a long day of exploring. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the wifi is expensive but there are places all around to gain access to free wifi. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone heading to New York and we will certainly be back there in the near future.
"Great location but badly let down by lack of heating during our stay in late October"
This hotel is in a great location but is very badly let down by being old and tired. The first room we were given had an overpowering smell of cigarette smoke despite the hotel`s alleged non smoking policy which they do not enforce. Even after a long wait when we managed to get a better smelling room the corridors still stunk of smoke where guests clearly continued to smoke in the rooms Do Not stay here if you suffer from Asthma or any other breathing problem. The heating system is from the stone age so does not supply any heat when you want it. At night it was very cold and after getting very wet and cold in a sudden storm I complained to reception to be told that it was impossible to turn on the heating. No cutlery or tableware provided despite kitchenette with coffee / tea making facilities meaning you have to purchase your own if you want a cup of coffee. I did write to the hotel directly to highlight the issues with the heating but the reply was very unhelpful and dismissed my concerns as being trivial. Would definitely not recommend this hotel for the reasons stated above
Great Hotel ,bit old fashioned but we liked that , it was lovely and clean and you could not fault the staff. It is also a perfect location for all the sights. The wi fi is not free ,and there are no hot drink facilities in room, Which is a pain if you like a morning coffee. Our son and family also stayed but in a suite which was lovely it had a sink, fridge ,microwave, table and chairs all spotless but no cutlery or plates etc would recommend and would stay here again
"First time to NYC"
My fiancé and I stayed here in November for 6 nights. Location was great, we could just walk to everywhere we wanted to visit. Our room was nice but tiny, WIFI is expensive, our TV signal kept cutting out every couple of minutes and we could here exactly what the room next to us was doing. Staff were nice. Not sure if we'd stay here again.
"Very well located in Manhattan, but poor service and rooms"
Very well located in Manhattan, close to Central Park and Times Square, a few steps to subway station N-Q-R, and one of the cheapest acceptable hotels with such a location. This being said, this is all you get. Outdated hotel and rooms. The rooms are small and not very clean. The blowing system in the inner courtyard is very noisy, and of course the phonic isolation of the windows is very poor. There was a water leak at the bottom of the toilet bowl, so I had to put a big towel all around on the floor, in order to avoid having my feet soaked each time I had to go to the bathroom. It did not seem to bother the hotel staff. One lift incident during the week. The lobby staff was barely kind or helpful. No restaurant at the hotel, but an independent place where breakfast can be taken (not high standing), and a small kind of cheap gift shop - where I could actually buy a very good umbrella during an unexpected rainy day! To summarize, if you can afford it and if you want your hotel nights to be also part of a wonderful stay in NYC, this is probably not the best place to stay.
