"Thanksgiving NYC Break"
Booked The Wellington hotel for a 3 night city break and overall we were pleased with our choice of property and would stay again if we found this property on offer. Landed into JFK and took the sky train to Jamaica station where we got the E train on the subway into NYC and this train takes you just one block away from The Wellington; you can get straight outside the hotel if needed but you have to change trains on the subway. Location just a few blocks either way to Times Square and Central Park we found this to be a great spot for the evening theatre trips only a short walk so we would always opt to stay in this area when visiting the city. Arrived about 4pm and we had a very fast and smooth check in to our room on the 11th floor with no view of the city or park only the next block but due to the price we paid we didn't expect anything like this especially staying during thanksgiving. Room itself we found to be very clean and were happy with the standard but have to say a little dated especially the bathroom facilities...overall provided a good base for a few nights away. We did find the room to be over heated and the A/C very poor due to its age... Would have expected free Wifi in the room but only found chargeable plans but Wifi is free in the streets of New York just need an email address to activate the Wifi; then the lift again was showing its age and we couldn't call it to the 11th floor and had to go down the stairs to the 10th floor when we were leaving the room. The reception team on the lobby were very pleasant.
"Excellent Place To Explore Manhatten"
We were unsure if we would love this hotel, with the mixed reviews on here, we went for the hotel as so many hotels now in New York are going down the road of ripping off tourists by charging a facility charge on top of the nightly rate plus tax ( come on do you want us to visit or not) The Wellington doesn't charge this, we got into our room 2 hours before booking in time, which was great after a long flight. The hotel in mid manhatten is ideal to do all the attraction and has the metro right on its door. Room very clean and beds comfortable , Two streets down the metro runs with one connection to the air train to JFK. Very helpful with booking our return flights Would use the hotel again , many thanks
"Convenient for visiting attractions"
Stayed at the Wellington for one week, upgraded to a suite which I must say was very comfortable and clean, check in was so quick and easy and was surprised to be shown to our suite straight away as we arrived an hour before check in time, paid for wifi for two devices and the lovely reception staff gave us a free code for two more devices free of charge, we had a very huge comfortable bed in bedroom with a walk in wardrobe, a pull out sofa bed in living room which was also comfortable, bathroom was a bit on the average size but was very clean with very powerful shower, no sign of any damp or mould which I had read about on other reviews, air conditioning unit was a bit noisy but didn't prevent any sleep. Maid service everyday with clean bed sheets and towels daily. We did use the park side cafe which is connected to the hotel but only for breakfast which was delicious but portion sizes was too big for me so I never finished my food, there is also a Greek restaurant connected to hotel but we didn't use it as we ate at other restaurants. Yes the decor of the hotel is a bit dated but I knew this when I booked and was ok with it. I would go back to The Wellington again as was very convenient for what we wanted to do, only a couple of blocks from Central Park and Time Square was a five minute walk down the road. Ideal hotel to lay down your head after a long day.
Just got back from our first time in NYC. We made the mistake of booking the Wellington Hotel. Where to start? From the pictures on their site the hotel and rooms look very traditional and beautiful. Unfortunately the room we got looked NOTHING like any of them. It was much smaller and age worn, and the lighting was terrible. Don't expect that lovely tiled shower in the pictures...We got a cracker box of a bathroom out of the 40's with barely enough room to move and NO fan to remove shower steam. I know NY is about smaller spaces but this was ridiculous! Creaky floors and a heating/cooling system that banged like someone was breaking your door down all night! The first night it scared me out of a sound sleep and i ran to the door thinking someone was trying to break in! Even turning OFF the system it STILL banged, so don't expect a good night's shut eye. We had a suite and two of the four window shades did not go down, so the people in the hotel across the street could get an eyeful. Narrow hallways and last but not least, an elevator that could double as a shoebox. If you are claustrophobic, this is NOT the place for you. Riding in that elevator will do you in. I am normally not a complainer, but this hotel has got to be the worst I have ever stayed in, bar none. It is definitely NOT worth the price, and if we ever go again, we will find a more suitable and comfortable place to stay, I could not wait to get home.
"Good location, old not well maintain instaltions"
This hotel has on site a Cafeteria with variety of foods, acceptable quality, good service. They also on site a Greek Rest, not visited during my stay. This a very old hotel, that is not a problem. The situation is that the rooms needs to be refurbished completely. There are mold and weat and humid smell. There are 2 elevators for the entire hotel, so there is always a long lines to reach them. Also the check in station is small. They are introducing a new computer system that cause a long waiting to check in. If you need to visit NY this is one of the cheaper option in Town, in a good location, near Time Square, Restaurants, Bars, Souvenir Stores, Theaters, train stations, etc. But just consider that hotel is no that comfortable.
