"Great location, average hotel"
I came to the Wellington on my second visit to New York and I was impressed by the location as central park is a five minute walk away, and Times Square is pretty close too. The staff were friendly and helpful, we were stopping for 10 days and when we paid for WiFi they gave us 5 days free. There were flaws with this hotel however, the room was small, there was barely room to move round the double bed. The room was hot and switching the air con only worked for awhile then it would pump out hot air. In the bathroom the toilet made the most horrendous noise when it flushed and if it got stuck on the flush the awful noise carried on for a while until it wasn't stuck. Maids would often try and get in the room when we had put out the 'Do not disturb' sign.
"Great address / mediocre hotel "
Hotel is very well placed half way between Central Park en time square. Unfortunately it is the only good point. Booking is very messy, my reservation was cancelled for the two first nights for an unknown reason, one of my colleague had no reservation, an other one had two reservations for one night... Lifts are very old and very busy at rush hours.Rooms are extremely small.AC is very noisy. Rooms are very dark on courtyard side but probably more quiet than street / avenue side rooms. I paid online an extra to get a wifi access. Unfortunately the access code never worked. I sent an email to the help desk. Hopefully I got a refund. I definitely do not recommend this hotel.
"Great location, great room size and that is it"
We stayed her for 6 nights in may with our children aged 2 and 8 months. The hotel is in a fantastic location. Great size room. We had a one bedroom suite but ended up having 2 bedrooms. Which was so handy with 2 young children. The hotel is not accessible unless by steps. The least being 4 steps. When you have a pushchair with shopping and 2 children it is heavy lifting it up and down. The bell boys never helped unless we asked. When I was alone with the children I had to wait 10 mins for anyone to help me. Not ideal with 2 young ones. The staff all seemed to have an attitude problem. The room is incredible outdated. There is no coffee and no safe. We had a microwave and a fridge that even on the warmest setting froze everything so in the morning when we wanted to give our children cereal we had to heat the milk up to defrost. The taps in the bathroom made the loudest screeching noise unless on full. Not ideal when you want to shower or bath and the kids are sleeping. The ac in the room was very old. Not great if you are staying here in the summer. Every bath tile in the bathroom seemed cracked and desperately needed redoing. The hotel lost one of my parcels. When I kept asking for it they got rude. I waited 7 hours until they found it. For the price we paid I would rather stay in a nicer hotel for with less space in the room for the same price. The lifts are very small and at busy times we had to wait several times before we could go down in the lift. Having the pushchair meant we couldn't go down 7 flights of stairs to reception. We also asked for 2 cots in the room. When we got there we had to call and wait for them to be put up. After a 13 hour flight and 2 hours in the taxi this wasn't ideal when we just wanted to put the kids to bed. Don't ask for any special requests on the booking form if you aren't going to honour them. Definitely won't be going back.
"Junior/Senior High trip"
On a group trip of junior/senior high students from Idaho. Drove into Manhattan with two vans (one over size) and I drove directly to the hotel with no problems, well visible and amazing valet services. With more than 20 pieces of luggage the valet took care of everything for us! The hotel was clean, friendly, and very accommodating to a larger group. The location is perfect between Central Park and Time Square for walking, with a subway one block away. Our group loved it! Though not all rooms had a balcony, my group's room did and had a great view of Time Square. A few of the others had a good window view looking towards Central Park. Was a great hotel to work into our fundraiser budget for our students, even if it was only 2 days.
"Mixed feelings! "
I stayed here four nights with my adult daughter at the end of April start of May . First impressions where ok, staff friendly enough, lobby looked dated and in an old fashioned style. We were on the seventh floor . Now the room, granted it did look like the pictures on the site and TA in terms of the decor , which on the pics looked ok, up close and personal it was very dated indeed. The room was also quiet small, I've stayed in NYC twice before and it was smaller than a more budget priced hotel I'd stayed in. There was no wardrobe but a weird walk in cupboard, no light and few hangers. Our view was a brick wall and another window in spitting distance which looked as though it was in a room being refurbed, it meant we hardly opened the blinds and my daughter saw someone staring through one day whole looked like a work man. The bathroom was even smaller. I mean really tiny, stand up to brush your teeth then sit on the toilet tiny. We had problems with all the taps too which where really old, this meant the shower was hit and miss and we called the bath, more a stand for the shower the "borrowers bath" as they're the only people who could have actually bathed in it! It was also warm and we slept with the window open as the air con unit was like something out of the arc and really really noisey. A few positives though as it's not all doom n gloom. The bed was really comfortable , one of the best I've slept in and the location is brilliant. Two blocks down from Central Park, a two minute walk to a subway and minutes from Times Square . In fact this is the hotels main sell . I'm not saying there aren't nice rooms, just that we didn't see one.
