"Dated but friendly hotel"
I've been staying at this hotel on and off for the last few months and as a frequent traveler, have quite a few things to say about this place. First, it's located in a very nice part of Philadelphia, close to a number of dining areas, bars, and historic sections. Not as nice as central city, but you'll still be able to find all the entertainment you need. Also, the price is decent for the area and it's convenient to the freeways so getting in and out is pretty easy. The hotel is not very tall you so you won't have any decent views here. The atrium is pretty nice and tall but due to the low height of the hotel you'll have rooms overlooking that same atrium (more on that in a second). The front desk staff has always been friendly and welcoming, even getting me a late night snack when I check in at midnight. They deserve a round of applause. Also, the taste restaurant always seems to be pretty hopping as well even at midnight on a Sunday. You need to take elevators to get up to your room which is fairly easy, but sometimes they may take a while if it's crowded. The SPG lounge as well as fitness center is on the third floor. This is one of the few lounges where you get free alcohol (!!!!) in the afternoon for hors d'orves, although the food is mediocre at best. There is always a decent amount of snacks and soft drinks at all times though. Gym is basic but has almost everything you need - although some of the equipment is in need of repair. I haven't had much luck getting upgrades to suites (slightly sore point for me) but the standard club rooms are decent and well stocked (they have slippers!). However, don't get the atrium rooms since when Taste gets loud, you can hear it through the thin doors at night. The beds are comfortable and the rooms decently spacious, but basic appointments. The bathrooms are also decently sized, but a bit dated.
"Love this hotel!"
This establishment is wonderful! Why? They are extremely nice and accommodating! They have exceptional customer service. From the front desk, to the banquet servers to the housekeeping staff. Thoughtful and wonderful. Well done!
We flew in to Philadelphia at 7 am and got to the hotel before 9 am and was checked in early to a clean and spacious room. The hotel was a regular hotel, but what made the stay 5/5 was the service we received from the entire staff. They were friendly and helpful the entire stay.
"Had to call the police for noise"
Crazy noise level coming from the rowdy bar in the hotel. We couldn't sleep and started calling the front desk at midnight to ask them to do something about it. At 3:30am, we finally had to call the police, which solved the problem. I stay in 15-20 hotels around the world each year ranging in quality from Michelin-rated to Howard Johnsons. I have never experienced this level of noise and indifference. Hotel was generally ok. Good gym. Clean rooms. Friendly service (other than dealing with the noise). Smaller issues: Limited lighting in the rooms. No full length mirror. They don't mention when you book that the only parking option is a slow valet desk at $49 per night. They cleaned our room, but did not replenish soap, coffee, towels, etc. And, they left a bottle of glass cleaner on our dresser.
For anyone used to staying in upscale or newly renovated hotels, this Sheraton will definitely seem old to you. You can see it's age as soon as you walk in the building. My boyfriend and I were given a King room, seemed okay at first even though the wall paper and ceiling looked like they were falling apart. We took showers and prepped for the next day, as we walked around we noticed for carpet was all wet. After some investigating we noticed there must be a leak from the shower or sink in the bathroom or from the roof. The ceiling looked like it had water damaged and just looked gross. We were tired because we traveled all day from salt lake City. We complained because of concerns of mold and allergans from the mildew on the ceiling and wall. The next day we were given a new room which was much better and had a nicer view, still dated but no mold in sight. Also, the internet was terrible. I had classwork to complete within a short deadline and the internet was slow and kept stopping. This was after our room number and last name would not allow us to login to the internet. I sat on the phone with tech support for 30 minutes at midnight trying to log on. When watching Netflix it kept freezing about every 20 minutes. It's 2018 the internet needs to be working properly especially in a convention center location. The room seemed clean, bedding was soft and comfortable. The air conditioning unit sounded like a car engine every time it turned on and off , so if you're a light sleeper like me you notice it at night. We didn't like that there was no fan in the bathroom, after showering the room gets hot and you can't open windows so it's very stuffy. Or if anyone uses the restroom you are all stuck with a unpleasant smell in a small room.lol I did like how close the hotel was to restaurants, my boyfriend and I enjoyed several of the local restaurants. I also liked the lobby, its spacious great for hanging out. Staff at the front desk were accommodating after we had issues with our room. We had access to the Sheraton club which was nice, we got some free drinks and snacks periodically saving us money. Overall, if I had a choice I would not stay here again. It hotel is just too old, I understand it's a historical city but I don't want to see wood paneling or old wallpaper peeling off on the walls. There's only one set of elevators for the entire hotel so you have to walk the entire length of the hotel if your room is in the back. The hotel needs a refresh bad.
