"Military Momma Getaway"
We booked this hotel for a gathering of 4 military moms coming from different areas of the country. Location is very nice within walking distance of a lot of the sites. Just around the corner to the right of the hotel is the City Tavern, a restaurant opened since 1773. Do yourselves a favor and go there. Food, service, ambiance are all very nice. Around the corner to the left is Penn's Landing and a War Memorial. From the hotel we walked to the Liberty Bell, Reading Terminal Market and the Magic Gardens...all things you should not miss. We also went to the Sugar House Casino nearby which was also very nice. Our only problems had to do with the check in and check out process. The real issue is training and misinformation. When one of the girls in our party arrived her card was charged twice and she was also given the wrong room. It should have been a room with double beds, instead she was given a king. This was only a problem because on the 2nd night she would be joined by another mom. On the way out one of the rooms was charged 8% sales tax while another girl in our party was charged 15% sales tax. I made the reservation for all 3 rooms and was surprised when one room was charged at one rate and the other at a different rate. Another girl at the desk wanted to go back and change the pricing on the first room after the card had already been processed. Funny thing is I asked what the hotel tax rate in Philadelphia and she said 8%. Being very vocal I said if the mistake was already made and the account closed just let it go. Just chalk it up to your staff made a mistake, in the end she did. The other two rooms were charged at the 15% rate. Other than this all the staff we ran into at the hotel was very nice and service was excellent. Taste was a nice option to have dinner and a few drinks. Prices were fair and food was good. Try the mushroom and hummus sandwich! Restaurant staff, bellman, housekeeping and maintenance staff were all a pleasure to deal with. Each and every person we interacted with was very nice. My room was very comfortable with all the necessary things. The mattress was comfy although the pillows a little to soft for my liking, just a personal choice though. I did love the free water bottle in the room. The only thing that really bothered me about the room was that the vent for the heat/ac makes a lot of noise when it starts up. I jumped out of my bed a couple of times startled by the sound it makes. Anyone with a heart condition would not fare well! I was surprised there was no free coffee or tea available in the mornings. I understand that there is a Starbucks on property but a nice cup of coffee would have been nice. There is a Club Lounge for frequent stay guests. I guess only VIP guests get a continental breakfast. I wouldn't have minded paying for it had it been offered to us. Maybe it should be opened to all guests with a fee. On checkout we did notice there were pretzels in the lobby mid afternoon, a nice touch although they were hard. I'm not sure if this was a daily thing or if it was there for a wedding party that was checking in. There is some vending on the 3rd floor as well as a pool. However, the pool closes at 10pm so if you are looking to go for a little late night swim you can't. Funny thing is the gym on property is open 24 hours. All in all we had a nice stay and I would probably go back.
"Nice hotel but don't like parking fee"
Stayed here overnight since I'm attending a concert and while the hotel is nice and in a good location they don't have a self parking lot. It is valet and very expensive, $36.00 a day and then they charge you an $8.10 parking tax so $44.00 a day! I feel if your a Starwood member like myself they could at least cut you a break on this. I think that is so unfair as a hotel guest. Thank goodness I'm only here for the night! Rooms are very clean and comfortable.
This hotel is really nice. It is close to all the major attractions and has spacious rooms. Perfect if you just want to get to know the city. PS: this is valet parking only there is a parking garage near the hotel where you can self park and pay.
"Clean and front door service is professional and courteous"
Felt safe and hotel was very clean. Front door guys were very helpful and polite with quickly opening doors and getting taxi services. The rooms were well kept, and close walking distance to local eating and sightseeing, office building. However, on site restaurant is pricey.
"clean comfortable great location"
This is a nicely designed hotel with a beautiful atrium. The beds and pillows are super comfortable. Room are clean and well appointed. Shower has handicap bars a plus for senior citizens. The staff is most accommodating. It is located near movie theaters , gret restaurants and sishtseeing.
