Beautiful lobby and great staff but the rooms need some updating. Also the a/c in my room made the sound of a steam locomotive every time it turned on and off. Sheraton doesn’t have my favorite beds either because they’re a little hard.
"Killer location, decent hotel"
THE GOOD: - LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Just blocks from some of the most historical sites in Philly (and the country), as well as tons of great bars (Bookbinders, etc), restaurants and theaters. Really hard to beat this location. - Staff were friendly, courteous and efficient. - Rooms are pretty large and well appointed. - Easy to get an Uber/Lyft at all hours of the day and night, and not too far from the airport as transport goes. - Bed was comfortable and slept well. THE MEH: - Though the rooms are nicely laid out and spacious, they're starting to show their age. Furniture, fixtures, carpet and walls/wallpaper definitely showing signs of wear n' tear. - The lounge has an okay spread - light apps at night, light breakfast in the AM, both with a couple of hot dishes. The food itself is of middling quality. In particular, there was sausage both mornings that was REALLY bad. - A/C unit in the room was loud, making it hard to relax (and sleep). This seems to be a common issue I run into at hotels, but it doesn't change the fact that it's like having a jet engine in the room... THE BAD: Not much to grouse about, but parking is FREAKING EXPENSIVE. I know it's not the cheapest neighborhood to park in, but there are garages nearby with options that are a fraction of the cost of the Sheraton's nearly $50/night.
This hotel is starting to show its age. The hotel is in a perfect location within walking distance of many local pubs & restaurants. The food at this hotel is just fair at best and way over priced. The parking is $49 overnight which is very unreasonable. However, you can park in a garage that is less then 1 block away for only $22 a night. I parked here and walked to the hotel.
"Almost exceptional . . . . ."
Nice room, nice location - however - pillows were lousy, didn't pass the fold test (too soft); also, I am short and bed was too high to get into without literally jumping into it (no step stool available to assist those of us that are vertically challenged). The mattress was good quality and firm, with nice warm bedding. Did not frequent the pool, but it looked very nice. I would stay here again (relatives in the area), but will bring my own pillow and stool for the bed.
We booked this hotel without realizing there was a marathon going on. Turns out the street was temporarily closed. Everyone at the front desk was super helpful in routing us on the public transit system. One person at the front desk told us that the closures could result in us being trapped the next morning and recommended that we switch our parking to the Hilton down the street. I actually did this, at 4am. Turns out the street was opened up before we checked out. Oh well. I spoke to the manager about this and he was very nice and willing to work with me on this. Several times this manager, his name escapes me but it started with an M, offered to help us and made exceptions for us. The lobby is attractive with a big rock fountain the kids enjoyed playing with, i'm sure they weren't supposed to but no one gave us any trouble. Our room was super far from the elevator but on the other hand it was super quiet. We asked for a crib in advance which was confirmed by the front desk but unfortunately wasn't there when we got to the room. Someone brought it up within 10 minutes, we asked them to put it together and lucky we did as her finger got pinched rather than mine. The room was contemporary and bland in a way that I like. The hotel has a very pretty pool but there is apparently no bathroom near the pool so we had to trek all the way back to the room to go. My husband wouldn't go in the water because he found it was too cold. We went to the breakfast buffet twice. They didn't charge for our toddlers which was nice. There was ripe fresh melon, oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins, potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, some weird sausage, some baked items, a variety of yogurts. The oatmeal was a bit crusty and the bread pudding, if that's what it was, didn't look good, but I was pleased with the friendly service. The waiter from the day before remembered who drank coffee and who drank tea, and our waitress remembered us and warmly said hello and chatted with me. She was so nice to the kids and gave them coloring books and crayons and genuinely seems to like people. Room service was good. The person on the phone didn't seem like he totally understood me but everything I asked for came. Water pitcher with ice, check and the steak was tasty. Overall I was happy with the hotel and I'd go back. I suspect the location was very good but we were only there long enough to do what we came to do, maybe next time.
