"Cozy but older"
We joined our friends on their ski vacation and wanted to stay close to their hotel. This place had the best pictures and reviews in the area, for the price we were willing to pay. We arrived very late, around 11:00. We were greeted warmly at the front desk and were given our keys and hotel information. The hotel is a bit older and could use some remodeling. We had a 1 bedroom suite with a kitchenette. The refrigerator was soured and made things smell/taste a little off. The chairs and couch in the living room were velour and uncomfortable. Our bed, however, slept great! The bathroom needed updating. The towel hook on the back of the door fell off when I tried to hang a towel on it. There was hair wrapped around the provided shampoo and conditioner bottles. The toilet seemed to leak, as there was water on the tile along the wall behind it. The light to the bathroom also turned on the fan, so it was noisy to use the bathroom. Hubby and daughter did enjoy the hot tub and indoor pool. There is also a restaurant on site and coffee/tea available in the lobby. It's about 15 minutes to Stowe Mt for skiing, and the hotel offers a shuttle to get there, which was convenient. It's also across the street from McCarthy's Restaurant, which is an awesome breakfast place! If you need the location and proximity to restaurants, this hotel works. However, for $300 a night we were hoping for a nicer/updated "resort".
"St. Moritz Suite"
My family of 4 (parents and two kids, ages 6 and 9) spent four nights in the St. Moritz suite for a long ski weekend. We found the suite to be very comfortable. The bedroom has a king bed and the living room has two separate pull-out chair beds. This was a great set-up, in that the kids did not have to share a bed. The pull-out chair beds were okay for my kids, but may not be comfortable for most adults because the mattresses are thin, narrow, and relatively short. The suite's one bathroom is located in the bedroom, so be advised that whoever is sleeping in the living room will have to come through the bedroom to access the bathroom. The suite was very spacious for the four of us. The kitchen was more spacious than what we really needed, and was adequately stocked (although there was no corksrew). Some of the fixtures and appliances were quite old, but this did not bother us and everything seemed to be in working order. The one thing we wished we had was a DVD player in the bedroom. After putting the kids to bed in the living room, we had to really hang out in the bedroom and, although there was a TV, there was no DVD player. We were able to park right outside the suite, which was convenient for loading skis and ski bags into the car. The suite was also quite close to Mountain Road, which was nice for using the town shuttle. We walked to the resort pool one day and really enjoyed the pool, which seemed to be salt water instead of chlorine. We didn't really use any other resort amenities. We would definitely rent this suite again.
"Outstanding massages "
My husband and I had an excellent time staying at Golden Eagle Resort for a Valentine's getaway. The staff are so nice and helpful. I particularly enjoyed my massages with Sonja and Holly. They did an outstanding job and I was so relaxed. Hands down the best two massages I've ever had (and I've had a lot). Thanks again to all the staff at Golden Eagle resort. The rooms are very welcoming and comfy with a fireplace and jacuzzi. Will definitely be coming back for a third time! Happy customer (Blake)
Worked out perfectly for a quick ski weekend in Stowe with our 130 lb Bernese Mountain Dog. Clean, modern room. Good breakfast at the on-site restaurant (Colonial Cafe). Location close to the ski lifts. What was great was we are allowed to leave our dog in our room (crated) while out skiing. He's very well-behaved so we weren't worried that he would pose a problem in any case
"Good location, clean and comfortable"
The Golden Eagle Resort afforded us a nice getaway on a winter weekend. ChecK-in was easy and uneventful, and there was a nice touch in that there were some fresh cookies in the lobby as a treat. The room was comfortable with a mini fridge and gas fireplace. The bed was not the popular pillow-top kind that are found in many hotels these days, nonetheless it was comfortable. The room was clean and appeared to have been recently recarpetted; the bathroom was ok but as other reviewers have mentioned, it could use an update. The breakfasts at the on-site cafe were good and servings substantial. The service was good too. The resort is conveniently located adjacent to a state park with a beginner/intermediate hiking trail and is also close enough to walk to town. All in all, our weekend was enjoyable. If i was going to Stowe for a special occasion, i would likely stay in a more upscale establishment but for a decently priced getaway, Golden Eagle works.
