"Great room for a ski trip"
In room gas fireplace a true bonus for warming up after battling the cold and snow, the kitchenette was a plus, and central location close to everything made getting to everything much easier. I'd definitely return in a heartbeat
What a fantastic resort. The pool and jacuzzi we're perfectly warm, we ate breakfast at the on site restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised not having stayed here before. We will definitely stay again. Rooms were quiet comfortable and clean. I like that it isn't a typical hotel but more resortlike. The price was right too considering the other resorts nearby, not too big and cookie cutter. Perfect for a small family from Connecticut. My husband took the shuttle to ski , easy as pie. Also fabulous restaurants to choose in the area. We ate early without reservations!
"One step foward, two steps back!"
We have stayed here several times now and after this last visit, probably won't be back. The hot tub is usually a good thing after a long day skiing, but not this one! Our lungs hurt from breathing in the chemicals! We had to open the door to try to get some fresh air in. Once the jets were turned off, could see all the dirt at the bottom. We left shortly after due to not being able to breathe! We stayed in a renovated room. It has a couple changes from our last visit. Was fairly clean, but had no washcloths, no hair dryer. The next day, returned to only 2 new towels, the bathroom was clearly not cleaned and no new shampoo/lotions left. The breakfast also went downhill. I ordered a Diet Coke and was told they have no soda due to "working a deal out with Coke". It is a ski-town and for the price we do not expect too much, but this visit just really makes us not want to go back.
"Back at the GE - again!!"
I first went to the Golden Eagle in 1995 when it was family owned with Anne and Liam. Over the years I have been back many times. It changed ownership a few years ago and we visited in the first year of that change - my TripAdvisor review was pretty brutal!!! New ownership means changes and there were numerous changes. I am glad to say that the GE has settled down. They have good staff who get involved with customers and my experience of reception staff and the Nest (Colonial Cafe) was very good. My only comment would that at the weekend when its busy at breakfast more waiting staff are taking on - young lads who were a little unsure of themselves and possibly need a little more experience / training to improve their confidence? Not a problem... I have always enjoyed breakfast at the GE - its a really good start to the day. I recommend that when you book at the GE you take the "breakfast plan" $11.00/day which covers most of the options on the menu and in reality you can have more or less what you want? One of the reasons we chose the GE originally was that it had a Spa (gym/pool/hot tub). The pool is large enough to do lengths ( a section can be marked out if its busy) Originally the Spa desk was manned - its not these days, which can cause probs re availability of towels. I just took a towel from my room. Tho the towel was not replaced tho I didn't ask!!! My fault??? The cost of ski passes have increased in Stowe over the years. In previous years there were many economic options - one year the pass included group lessons!! I suggest that you look at options for purchasing ski passes before travelling - a simple option I used was buy the passes on a day to day basis from reception at the GE. We had a great time in Stowe this year, I took my son, first holiday we have had together since 2010 - he had not forgotten how to snowboard in the intervening years - he was taught by Stowe instructors .... recommend them too. Tho sadly it will be my last trip to Stowe as the cost is relatively high - Europe is not as good for all sorts of reasons but at a lower cost ... shame. If I win the Lottery then I would be back in Stowe at the GE like a shot...
"Winter Ski Trip"
Kitchen needs to be updated, When arrived all dishes were dirty inside the dish washer, have to call room service to work with the dishwasher since it was not properly working. apart from those minor things, the stay was as usual.
