We stayed two nights in DC so we could meet up with family to see the Packers beat the 'skins in a pre-season game. As patrons of other Omnis we couldn't help but compare properties, and the Shoreham is very, very good, but doesn't quite come up to the level of the Bedford Springs or the William Penn. The public spaces are inviting, gorgeous, and clean--even stunning. While there there was a large Indian American wedding, and it was a treat to see the guests arriving in their finery. We peeked into the room while the staff was setting up and are sure it was fabulous. The fitness room adjoins the lovely pool area, which was packed with families (but never over-crowded) our entire stay. The fitness room was well-quipped with a large variety of equipment, the temperature was comfortable, and the tv's worked--all of which is worth mentioning as it's frequently not the case. Unlike other reviewers, we found the wifi both fast and reliable. $49 per day for valet parking seems high, even in DC, but the attendants were great. In a hotel this age the small elevators, which were very slow to arrive during peak times, were to be expected. As other reviewers have observed, what makes the Shoreham distinctive--it's history-- can also create challenges. Yes, our very large and well appointed corner room needed some TLC in terms of the wallpaper in the bathroom,, which was marked in places and coming up by the tub, but housekeeping is on its game and everything was spotless other than that. Having a window in the bathtub was wonderful for natural light...and yet, the cheap plastic shades there, which were soaked when we showered, seemed out of place. Not sure what a better solution would be. Service in the hotel, while professional and very efficient, lacked the warmth of real hospitality we've enjoyed at other Omnis. The concierge on Saturday--sorry not to have gotten his name--was especially good, however. One of us dined at Roberts for a late evening meal while the other was at the game. The meatloaf, roasted veggies, and garlic mashed potatoes were yummy; the service was reserved but efficient. However brunch Sunday morning was a different story: as at other Omni's the "Art of the Breakfast" buffet was fresh, tasty, and abundant, (The homemade granola for our fruit, oatmeal, and fresh berries were particularly good!). But...and here's the but...our server was beyond inattentive. Either he didn't want to be there that morning, or couldn't see us, even when we tried to get his attention for more water or to clear our plates; then, when the check arrived he finally warmed up and asked how everything was. The table behind us was having the same experience. We tipped accordingly and spoke with a manager, who said he would speak with the gentleman, and kindly offered us drinks to go for our way home. With proximity to the metro, a nice variety of restaurants, and the National Zoo within very close walking range, the location is excellent. Would we stay at the Omni Shoreham again? Yes, especially at the rate we were able to get this weekend. If you like modern, sleek and edgy, this isn't the hotel for you, but if you like gracious living in a great location, lovely pool and gardens, and large rooms with comfy beds, try it.
They get all the details right at this nicely situated hotel near the National Zoo. Hard to call such a big property an oasis of serenity, but it's so spacious and sunny (and its backside is pillowed in parkland) that it all makes for a truly restful stay. We will be back.
"Amazing Gem Close to the Action"
If you're looking for a clean and quiet stay in the middle of a bustling city, this is your spot. It's just a short walk from the metro or to nearby nightlife, but has a local feel on-site that doesn't make you feel like you're in the middle of a big city. Also, the pool is amazing.
The Omni Shoreham far surpassed our expectations for the week we were in Washington DC. The hotel has beautiful architecture along with a sense of it's historic past. Our guest room was HUGE and the food was awesome. The fitness and pool were a big hit with us and our kiddos. I would definitely recommend to anyone considering a stay in DC. Walk to CVS and restaurants along with Uber pick up within minutes. Ten out of Ten!!
Great place! Great service! Everything exceeded our expectations!!!!! The rooms were welcoming! The lobby was grand with a lot of fresh flowers arrangements. The only downside to this location that there is no free parking, only vallet. We were able to find a parking at a local garage instead.
