"Awesome service and location!"
We stayed at this hotel for a sister's/niece's weekend. The service was fantastic from the time we arrived until the minute we left. I wish I could remember everyone's name. The bellmen and front desk teams gave us directions and restaurant/activity suggestions every day (I think we wore them out!). Lol This was my 2nd Kimpton property stay (Portland was the 1st). The clean, spacious and eclectic room decor make you feel like you're a guest on someone's home. Whenever I travel from now on, I will look for a Kimpton property first to make my reservation. Thank you so much for your hospitality. It made for a fun family weekend!!
"Superb Location, Stellar Staff"
I was totally impressed with the Kimpton Hotel Monaco during my first stay there. Though we arrived early, they had a clean, comfortable room ready for us, complete with a window seat facing the Chicago River. I can’t speak highly enough of the staff, everyone of them I interacted with were uniformly pleasant. While I needed assistance to figure out how to access the Wi-Fi (it’s free for IHG members), the signal was fast and strong. The room was spacious and bed were comfortable and I enjoyed the complimentary morning coffee in the lobby. For the price ($149 for 2 queen bed and overnight parking), it was best lodging values I experienced in Chicago in recent memory.
The location is very convenient, only two blocks to the river, close to Michigan Ave. We walked everywhere. We were very pleasantly greeted at check in. In general, had a very good feeling about all the employees here at the hotel. We were on the 11th floor. Our room was quiet, the bathroom was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The rooms have a funky window seat in them, a little awkward to get up into it as it is behind couch and a little tall, but I climbed in to read a book and look at the scenery. It has pillows and a cushion for comfort. Really liked the wine/cocktail hour they have in the lobby in the evening. That was fun to talk to people. Also appreciated the free coffee/tea and infused water in the morning. All in all a good stay.
"Top notch boutique respite in Chicagoland"
I know some may view this as cliche, but The Monaco's strength is its people. From the moment you are greeted at the street by the valet, all the way through the bellhop, the front desk, and even the staff you bump into in the hallway, everyone is glad to see you like old family returning for a reunion party. THIS is what draws me back to the Kimpton each year (for annual conference). There are hundreds of places to stay in Chicago, and certainly, many that are cheaper per night, but the staff and location of the Monaco are top notch. Aside from the high prices, the area that needs the most improvement is the design of the rooms. The furnishings are outdated in aesthetic and function. The lack of electrical and USB outlets by the bed is disappointing, and the location of the light switches and fixtures is awkward and frustrating. There was a charging station clock radio on one of the side tables, but none of the outlets worked. I also don't expect coiled fluorescent light bulbs from a hotel at $600 per night. Try LED if you want to make an environmentally friendly statement without turning a room yellow. The mini bar in the room is expensive and thoroughly stocked, but don't plan on putting any of your own stuff in the fridge as there is no room for leftovers or late night snacks, only $13 bottles of recycled water bottles. A highlight is the beds, as I have always gotten a great nights sleep at the Monaco. On my second day, I slept in until noon it was sooo comfortable. No complaints about bedding or linen. All good. Bathroom was very clean and roomy. Supplies were good, and water temperature and flow was excellent as well. All together, I recommend the Kimpton Monaco very highly, assuming that the price per night doesn't scare you away. Give it a try, and I highly recommend that you walk the neighboorhood as well. And should you need anything, DON'T hesitate to ask the staff as they are truly the shining star of the Monaco.
"absolutely AAAAA + pet friendly in the heart of Chicago"
I stayed 3 nights on 10th floor and i have no clue what all the 1 star ratings are about, because i didnt expericence ANY of those things. I was checked in FAST with no problems, the valet parking guys were quick and super attentive, the microwave and luggage cart was delivered to my room in less than 5 mins, my view was beyond gorgeous (riverview be sure to ask for it) i heard NO sounds in the hall or adjoining rooms, and they had guests in them because i saw their lights on at night from the street, the staff was courteous, pleasant and business like, the AC was not all that loud besides i like a little white ambient noise to lull me to sleep and mask noise, it was nice and cold too; the accomodations were so grandiose and beautiful if people say they arent they must be spoiled hard to please complainers. The curtains were like you'd find in a castle. The bed was extra luxurious, with so many soft pillows i lost count. the room was HUGE with a bed bench and chaise lounge. Complete with hair dryer and robe. My bathroom had a nice huge makeup mirror that was SO nice. I used my fridge daily. It was stocked with everything but i dont use that stuff because its costly. WiFi was fast. The room was immaculate too and i'm a super picky germophobe. NOW FOR MY SUGGESTIONS: maybe a little continental breakfast each AM, a luggage rack, my room had no dresser, even tho between the nightstand and TV stand drawers i really didnt need one, a TV guide and a more user friendly TV. KUDOS to staff go to ANTONIO the bellhop/valet attendant. he was the friendliest most professional hotel staff member ever... we had long conversations, he even remembered my name on day 3 and this hotel has many guests. He really cares about people- he takes his job serious. This man deserves a raise. Also to GWEN and JENNA at the front desk. Super pleasant, helpful and attentive. All the staff were incredible actually. My 2 dogs were welcomed with open arms too and this is my main priority. Customer service is top notch here and i will continue coming back when visiting chicago!
