"Loved this location "
Located between Illinois and Grand on State Street Palomar is located in a fantastic area for shopping, restaurants and bars. Outside the entrance is seating under heat lamps. If the weather is agreeable it's a nice place to sit. Check in was quick and room was ready early. We had a luxury one bedroom unit. Large living area with desk, tv, mini fridge, sofa (uncomfortable), two chairs (very comfortable), closet with an umbrella and a chair & table at the window. Doors lead into a dressing area with a bench window seat, closet with a robe, and very large private bathroom with a huge jetted tub and large walk in shower. Plenty of towels and a hair dryer. Another set of doors take you into the bedroom. Television, safe, and many drawers and shelves. Chair and table at the window. Bed was very comfortable with even more comfortable pillows. Black out window treatments really did the job. This may be the darkest room I've ever slept. Even with the drapes open it was a bit gloomy in the room. We had every light on and it didn't feel very bright. But it was a very gloomy day. The bathroom did have good lighting. Turn down service was a nice touch. Room was very clean and in excellent condition. Plenty of power outlets. Wifi worked well. Free wine happy hour from 5pm-6pm. And free coffee and tea in the morning. Comfortable place to sit and relax or visit. We really liked that checkout isn't until noon. Friendly staff, great location, spacious rooms mean this hotel definitely deserves a return visit.
"Mini New Years Day stay"
This was our first stay at a Kimpton hotel. It was great. Service excellent and upgraded us to a suite. They did say they will do that if available. Great bonus with kids. Loved happy hour and the hot chocolate. Probably should of had more pizza but oh well. Great hotel.
"Ill Prepared-terrible stay"
I stayed at the Hotel Palomar in Chicago due to their pet friendly policy-which was the only positive of the whole stay. They had some sort of "Good Times" convention or event which was made up of hundreds of loud, crazy mainly inconsiderate teenagers who took over the hotel, trashed the lobby and clogged the elevators (all 2 of them) At one point we gave up and walked up 8 flights of stairs and we always took the stairs down. (used condoms in the stairwell were a super morning greeting). It was noisy until 2 or 3 AM with kids running around and I got little sleep. This hotel was simply ill equipped to handle this type of event but there are some issues that could have been avoided by having staffed up to manage it. The cherry on the sundae was waiting 52 minutes to get my car from the Valet this morning. Maybe week days are better but I would not stay here on a weekend.
"Lovely boutique hotel"
Great location right in the Loop. Loved the Art Deco design! We had a deluxe room that was very quiet; the tall ceilings help with the noise. The hotel has a great bar on the lobby floor, and the service was classic Kimpton.
We were over NYE. The hotel was extremely busy. But they managed to keep things running smoothly. They even were thoughtful enough to send cupcakes to my cousin's room for her birthday. She had called in a week or so before our arrival and mentioned she was going to be in town for NYE and to celebrate her birthday. To her surprise there were cupcakes waiting for her. We had a 1 bedroom suite. It was nice and roomy. Which was perfect as we had a little gathering in our room on NYE before we headed out. We didn't have a view however I don't know what kind of view would be offered based on it's location. The bathroom had a huge shower and an insanely big tub. In the lobby there was hot chocolate and of course the wine hour. The red line is a hop, skip and a jump away. Super close. Michigan Ave, the river are both a block or 2 away. Millenium Park is a short walk as is Navy Pier. There is no business center at this hotel so if you have theater tickets, admission tickets or just anything to print you have to go the front desk and email it to them, which is a pain especially when the front desk is super busy. And it makes it more difficult when the email is taking forever to go thru. So yes, this is my only complaint. But other than that it was an excellant stay. Oh almost forgot...very dog friendly. I saw big dogs, I saw small dogs. I didn't mind at all since I am a dog lover.
