We recently re-visited NOLA after too many years away. It felt like home-coming. Cafe Demond, Jackson Square and the annual French Quarter Festival greeted us like familiar friends. The weather was immaculate and the jazz was likewise. Art, food friends and music-- NOLA at its best! We had the good fortune to stay at the Royal Orleans for this trip-- and it will most certainly not be the last stay. The location is second to none, the ambiance everything NOLA and the staff very accommodating. We love the rooftop pool, bar and observation deck. It's a great vantage point to watch the Festival goings-on. The hotel has the old-school grandeur with new amenities. Fits like a glove with the Quarter (where it is located). It is walking distance from everything and 20 minutes from Armstrong. If you're planning a visit, we'd highly recommend the Royal Orleans.
You can't beat the location. Walking distance to almost everything. This isn't what I would call a luxury hotel. It's nice but definitely needs work. Front desk is super slow. Staff seams very disorganized. Took forever for our room to be ready. We had reservations for a superior room with a view near the elevator. Instead we were given after waiting all day Room 702. Sooo small and the furthest room from the elevator. We called and asked to be moved which we were but had to wait another hour again. Room 334 was much nicer. Bathrooms are very small, you can shower, use the toilet and brush your teeth all at the same time. They didn't make up our room the second day until 4 pm. Got no turn down service the first night but did the second night. No bell man at the door when we arrived so my husband had to carry our bags up the steps in the entranceway. Rooftop pool was great and had a bar. Was a bit noisy on Saturday afternoon but got quieter the next two days. Upon checkout I mentioned to the front desk how we had reserved a superior room and got room 702. He apologized and told us he removed the wifi charges. Lol.. there were no wifi charges for guest, just a bull answer in my opinion.
"Great Location, Substandard "Luxury""
This hotel did not meet my expectations of "luxury accommodations". The rooms (I had to be moved from my first room, so I saw 2 different rooms) were worn and lacking comfort. There weren't places to put your belongings or to even move around in. I can honestly say that their rooms are NOT made for couples (i.e. more than one person in the room at a time). I would only stay in this hotel again if I had to for business AND if I traveled alone (because again, there was not enough space in the room for 2 people to be in it at once without tripping over each other). I complained about my room, and was moved to another, slightly larger, room. So, thank you hotel staff for that; but, it was still too snug and we had to find creative ways and places to hold our belongings. The night before I checked into the Omni, I stayed at a Holiday Inn. Upon checking into the Omni and seeing my room I thought, "Wow, Holiday Inn is WAAAAAAAY nicer than Omni?! When did that happen?" The night after I checked out of the Omni, I stayed in a Fairfield Inn and thought, "Okay, I think Omni properties are really going downhill." So, I have 3 different chains to compare and in my experience, Omni under performed all of them. I understand the rebuttal is, "The french quarter has older buildings with smaller rooms." Yes, I do understand that to be true. I have stayed in other locations around the quarter and have not felt completely uncomfortable in my room. I have also stayed at a few other Omni properties and have similarly thought that the chain's claims to be "Luxury Accommodations" to be a bit of bluster. I am hesitant to give Omni another chance to disappoint me.
Great hotel that was conveniently located in the French Quarter. Walking distance to great restaurants and bars. They were able to arrange early check-in which made our experience but easier. I do plan to stay here again.
I think it would be a good idea to have bar snacks available at the bar and a refrigerator available for a guest to use for their own water bottles, etc. it would be a good Idea to have an additional table and chairs on the rooftop bar and a sign that says that you can not put a towel on a lounge chair first thing in the am and then leave and come back when it's convenient. That's unfair to the other guests.
