"Great location - wish I could give 3.5 stars"
I badly want to give the hotel a 5 star for the location and cleanliness. It is not like the other Ws which are all large modern industrial buildings. This one had the feel of a boutique hotel. The room was clean, front staff helpful with suggestions and I absolutely loved the sitting area in the courtyard, perfect for unwinding or morning coffee. But, they billed us for minibar which we didn't use and we have called a number of times but they can't seem to figure out the billing. The air conditioner in the room was not adjustable - it blasted extremely cold air or had to be turned off. And lastly the faucet in the sink didn't not have hot water.
"Great location, a bit rundown"
A bit like the French Quarter outside, our room was bold, colourful, and quirky, but a bit worse for wear after one too many parties. Our room would have benefited greatly from a paint touchup and a carpet clean (some sticky patches!) That being said, it was comfortable and convenient- we found it a great base for exploring the French Quarter. Definitely not the best W we've stayed at. Our interactions with staff were very minimal- the way the hotel is set up means you just don't cross paths with any service. Our only interaction was a call where they had called our room by mistake in response to someone else's complaint. The pool downstairs was lovely and we spent a nice hour resting down there- but no poolside service whatsoever.
The only thing that this establishment has going for it is its perfect location in the heart of the French Quarter. Everything else - from its unprofessional staff and the astoundingly poor service they provide to its rundown rooms and grimy premises - falls well below the W standard. When we arrived at the hotel, the bellhop just stood and watched us struggle with our luggage without even so much as acknowledging our presence, let alone offering assistance. When we attempted to check in, the young girl behind the counter seemed more interested in arguing with her bank (she was on the phone with a representative discussing loans) than greeting us and providing us with our room keys. The room itself was nicely decorated but pretty worn down. The next day, when nobody had come to clean our room by noon, we called front desk and asked for housekeeping and we were advised that someone would come right away. We left the hotel for lunch and came back at 1:30 p.m. to find that nobody had come. We called again and were assured that someone would be right up. We left the hotel and came back at 3:00 p.m.; STILL no one had been up to clean the room. We called a third time and left the hotel. Thankfully by the time we came back in the evening, the room was finally cleaned; yet the cleaners left their cleaning products on our beds. Also, if you plan on lounging about by the garden/pool, forget ordering any food or drinks. If you are lucky enough to be approached by any soul to see if you would be interested in eating or drinking al fresco, then expect that person to take your order and come back more than an hour later with your drink. Overall, we were sorely disappointed in W's New Orleans offering. We have been to New Orleans a number of times and we love the city. We will surely come back but we will never stay at this facility, where its staff (save for a lovely and helpful lady named Nicole at the front desk) seem to do everything in their power to ensure that you are inconvenienced.
"Great staff average hotel"
Location was great, staff was super friendly, bar was fun, restaurant is pretty. Room was tiny and had a strong smell of air freshener. Had to wash everything I hung in the closet when I returned home it still smelled like the hotel.
"Wonderful Boutique Hotel"
We had a fun, funky room. The pool and the garden was magnificent. Very relaxing. Right in the heart of it all! The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.I really love this property, it's only 97 rooms and it's just a warm feeling unlike the larger impersonal properties.
