"The Rockin' R Ranch Rocks!"

   23-10-2016
We had the pleasure to stay here for 3 days during our 3 week round trip through the west of the US. We had read promissing things about this place but our experience has exceeded our expectations. Coming from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, we got to experience what we know from tv and the movies; living and working at a ranch, the wranglers, horses, cows and many other animals and more importantly, all the staff working at this ranch, they were very friendly and hospitable. Our rooms were great, wild west style, good beds, airconditioned, our rooms were outside on the top floor of the building, providing a great view at sunset! No TV nor hair dryer, but these are things you do not need during your stay. Every day the whole day was filled with activities and at the end of the day we went to bed, tired but satisfied. For those that value it, there is free WiFi, I actually enjoyed being without social media for a few days, allowing me to fully enjoy the whole ranch experience. Meals are at fixed times during the day and the food is good and varied, we enjoyed it when the time to eat was announced with a loud "Come and get it" All staff are very friendly and helpful. Activities are planned for you and the planning also leaves space to book additional activities. Our 8 year son really liked the trail rides, he was so relaxed on his horse. We could not imagine he would like it this much, never having had exposure to horses. The 2nd day he was so relaxed that he fell asleep on his horse during the trail ride! Activities included horse back riding lessons, tubing, a tour through town, camp fire with smores, feeding the animals, daily trail rides, hiking (we took the Butch Cassidy trail), lasso lessons etc. etc. The area in which the ranch is situated is beautiful, it is at extra cost, but I would recommend renting a quad and go out for a ride, the view from the Mountains are astonishing! There are many many more things I could share about the ranch but my suggestion is to go here if you get a chance and experience it yourself, you will not be disappointed.

"cattle drive #6"

   11-10-2016
Just finished my 6th cattle drive at the Rockin R Ranch. Needless to say I really do enjoy them. They have been shortened to 4 days which is probably good for most people because you are in the mountains rounding up cattle for 7-8 hours most days. The horses are very good working quarter horses. Brandi and Brandon, the ranch managers are great. Most of the time Mike Tyree, a real cowboy, helps lead the cattle drive. He is very helpful and a pleasure to work with. If you would like more information from someone who has been there many times, feel free to email me thru Trip Advisor.

"Value there but not for everyone "

   27-09-2016
So we went for 3 nights in August and did enjoy most of our stay. The ranch hands were very pleasant and helpful. What you need to realize is that this ranch is priced 25 % of something in Montana or Colorado so expect to get a different experience than those places. Food is good but not excellent. Each meal is strictly limited to an hour each day. Heck they only offered me 2 half strips of bacon one morning. You get your money from horse riding and being in a ranch setting. Probably 2 hours trail and an hour arena each day. I was disappointed that the front desk had no idea where I could use my fly rod to fish after dragging it from Texas and they advertise it. Also, the rock climbing wall is a kid thing like a playground. Also, no booze or cokes offered as it is a Mormon operation. Is what it is in that part of the country.

"The Guides and ranch staff are amazing!!"

   05-09-2016
I don't normally (like ever) write reviews but have felt very strongly to leave one for this place. Mostly because the staff, or guides, for all of the activities made such an impact on our experience. We wanted a last little getaway for summer that wasn't our normal beach trip. We're in Las Vegas so we started searching east instead to see what we could find. I was excited when I first saw Rockin R's website and we decided to book the suite so we would have room to spread out. I was NOT disappointed! The suite was a great size with a mini fridge, a roll-away bed, a fold out sofa, lots of windows, and a balcony. Meal times were fun. They ring a triangle and yell "come and get it!" I like that each group had their own reserved table for the whole time. The food was "meh" not very impressive. I'm pretty sure the main dinner entrees are pre-packaged, frozen portions. But some other parts of the meals were good. They offered a salad bar and some pretty awesome desserts. But don't come for the food! I loved that they planned out your stay so you could get the most activities done in your allotted time there. So we didn't have to worry about planning what time to do anything during the day and miss out on something else. One hiccup was that for some reason our family didn't get scheduled into the rodeo arena, and instead they put us in the "grass arena" both days. I questioned this and the lady at the front desk said it was either that or a "hike." We asked what other paid activities they had (I remembered reading from the website) and she looked at me like she didn't know what I was talking about. Maybe people don't normally book extra activities? I don't know. We eventually settled on skeet shooting. But it made me sad seeing other families laughing and having run in the rodeo and we couldn't. It really looked like a LOT of fun! The horse trail rides were utterly A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! We were lucky in that it was just our little family of four for both days! These weren't your normal run of the mill trail rides. The first day was 1 hour long and the second day was 2 hours! They take you through water, up and down hills, up a plateau where you can see the whole city. It was awesome! The guides were something else! Super friendly, always asking questions, joking around. My son had never been on a horse and was very nervous. The guide (I believe his name was Steve) took the time to talk with him and get him up on the horse. I know it's just their job probably but they really made me feel like they were glad we were there and that they were interested in us! It was Steve and Endo on our first ride and Endo and a girl, I think her name may have been Christy(?) on the second ride. Another activity we were looking forward to was the river tubing. This didn't turn out how we expected, but that's not their fault. My daughter ended up being a little too short to properly paddle her tube and she panicked & fell out of it, which made me panic, and the poor teenage guide (Tony, I believe) came up on a panicked mom and little girl, but he was very professional and nice, and patiently helped us get back on our tubes and on our way, even staying with our family and talking to my husband the whole time really helped us get through the rest of the river trip. The skeet shooting was fun. However, I asked the front desk (same lady as before) if it would be a good activity for a 10 & 12 year old and they said "oh yeah, they'll be fine." I would think if they say that a 10 and 12 year old would be fine for the activity that they would have smaller shotguns available, but they didn't. My daughter couldn't shoot cause the gun was too big, but my son and I did. The guide for that was Ben (I'm pretty sure), and I was really impressed by him. He was very nice and accommodating, and patient. Ben even came up to us during meal time and asked us how our son's shoulder was, since it was going to bruise a little from the shotgun. The guide from the river tubing also came up to us to see if we were feeling better after the tubing experience. I thought this was nice because they really didn't have to do this. They didn't have to talk to us at all after the activity, but they did and it seemed like they really cared. The line dancing night with the live band was fun! We didn't dance but watched from our balcony. It was a great night, with music, and all ages of families just dancing, laughing, and playing. It was fun watching some of the ranch guides get into the music and dance! Overall, I would recommend this place. The only reason for the 4/5 rating are the little hiccups I explained above. But if you want an experience where you're not bored, never sitting around staring at your phone or watching TV, and instead dealing with super nice ranch guides and staff, then I would recommend this place wholeheartedly.

"One Great Time"

   03-09-2016
My son and I just spent the better part of a week on a cattle drive here. But to just review the cattle drive is doing the Rockin R an injustice. The lodge itself is beautifully done. Lots of beams and hunting trophies. The room was large and very comfortable. The food great and plentiful. The grounds are full of animals and not just horses and cows. Don't miss the bison and beautiful "pig". The cattle drive was one great experience. The high country is beautiful yet rugged. The horses very well trained. At the end of a long day "cow camp" was very welcoming with great food, great stories and comfortable tents. The experience was marvelous yet to say the least hard work. Finally the staff.....simply great people. I will never forget Creston, Brandon and Brandy and their girls. A special thanks to Endo, Christy and especially Jordan.
