Accommodation is limited in this area & Capital Reef resort is probably amongst the best. The word 'resort' conjures up an inflated impression though. The motel room was a little dark but it was clean & served its purpose for a 1 night stay. It was also a little noisy both from rooms above & car/bike park outside the doors. We ate in the restaurant both evening & breakfast - good portions at reasonable prices & very helpful & friendly service. If you are here to visit Capital Reef National Park, I would advise driving the park scenic road in late afternoon - the reef faces west so colours just get better & better as the day goes on.
"Fair but nothing special"
Stayed here for one night. The photos on the website do not fairly represent the resort. Although the room was adequate it left a bit to be desired. Some what cramped and moderately clean. The view was very nice and the beds were very comfortable. The staff had a slight attitude but overall were friendly.
"Ideal home base for Capitol Reef National Park"
We spent 3 wonderful nights in a 2 bedroom cabin. The views are incredible and the cabin is very well designed - small but efficient and well oriented to the views. Having s full kitchen allowed us to prepare food for 2 meals a day and eat out only for dinner. I highly recommend.
There is a lot that is good and bad about this resort. The location and setting is excellent. The cabins have a lot of luxury features and are internally styled really well. However, externally they are pretty poor and the other 'hotel' are actually more motel style buildings and the layout of the buildings is poor so that you have little privacy and look at the other ugly buildings in the way of the amazing natural setting. Improved landscaping would also improve the site. Where the 'resort' really fell down was the staff. The queue got to 9 people whilst I was waiting to check in and the guy was clearly overwhelmed. Basic things like I just wanted to confirm the room type I'd been put in and he wasn't able to do it and told me to go and check it out and see if it was what I booked. More generally there were no senior staff visible, mostly teenage people who just seemed to be having fun driving around in golf carts.
"Loved this place"
Our room had a 180 degree view of red rocks with a sunset to die for.. There are several different "room" options from pretty luxurious looking cover wagons and tepees -not what you think- to cabins and less expensive rooms without our fantastic view. Choose the rooms on the first floor entrance in the back with a little semi private patio and that fantastic view. The rooms are well appointed in western motif. Choose the bed and breakfast rate since there not very many other options in the area and it is an excellent breakfast buffet. There is a great heated pool and tub. Close are horses for trail rides and llamas with a guide for pack animals if you are hiking into the back country. It is only a few miles from Capital Reef National park and the little town of Torrey. We loved the area and this hotel.
