"Comfy stay. Friendly staff."
Check-in was efficient and the staff were friendly and helpful. We got a room with balcony and there was a very nice beach view. The room was very spacious but then the bathroom was relatively small. They provided free coffee every morning in the lobby and I could easily get myself fuelled up. One of the biggest perks of this hotel is that parking is free of charge. This hotel location is unbeatable if you are driving because the hotel is in the middle of most of the popular spots and there are also some stores and restaurants within walkable distance. Will definitely come back if I am visiting again.
I stayed here for a work meeting. The guest rooms were very nice. The service was courteous and knowledgeable. The location is very good. It was a .5 mile walk to the pier and downtown for dining. The meeting rooms and banquet service was also good.
"Not up to expectations at this tier"
Let me preface this with if someone had just said "Mrs. xyz, this is what will be happening until xyz" it would not have bothered me so much. My daughter and I had spent five days at Disney and wanted somewhere we could relax for a few days before our flights home. There was no relaxing from the moment we checked in. We were traveling with a pet. While checking in all other guest were receiving champagne/sparkling wine (which I did not receive), but I was instead questioned multiple times about my understanding of pet fees as our pet is not a service pet. I said I understood (not our first time traveling with said pet), but was then asked again and again and even once more. If I thought this person had my genuine understanding of the policy and fees as their first concern I would have let the questioning slide. However, it did not feel genuine, instead pushed as though we were not capable of understanding we would have to pay extra for the dog. Maybe someone has argued these fees in the past, however this was not my case. This was not a good first impression. We then head to our room. Now being that we travel often with our dog, I know there are designated pet rooms. They are typically on the lower floors and are limited, so I usually allow some things to be overlooked in the location of a room. We get to the room and the decor is lovely (however there was a smell like a blowdryer had burnt up, but from other reviews I knew this was a possibility). We start settling in and I go to open the back door so we can see where we can take the dog out, and there is a wedding setting up directly outside our door. It was quite loud. I head to the front and ask if they will be there into the evening and was told "probably not." Being as though I almost felt like we were intruding in on their intimate moment from our own room, my daughter and I found somewhere away from the hotel to take the dog out for a bit, then hit a few stores. When we arrived back hour later the wedding was still there, however it seemed to be winding down and moving indoors. I did ask where we could take the dog out since they were still outside. The man suggest two women and a tiny dog walk 6-8 blocks in the dark to what he thought was a dog park. I said I was not really comfortable as there had been some aggressive people we had come across earlier in the day and I do not know the area well. He shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't have a pet." Most staff will ask around and even help us to map a safe area to take the dog. Not this one. Oh well, now time to relax.... We order room service from a young man that was an absolute pleasure to speak with. It arrived quickly being delivered from the same man on the phone. Super nice.I wish I had asked his name. My daughter realized she had no ketchup/mayo so she called down to ask for some. The man that answered the phone this time sounded irritated while telling my daughter it would be a 30-40 min wait for condiments. This was ridiculous service, so I walked to the bar and got it myself. Side note- our room service tray sat outside our door almost out entire stay as well as others on our hall. The next morning starting around 4:15, there was a constant slamming of doors and what sounded like dryers running. It went on for so long that I got dressed and went down to the front to ask if we were possibly below a maintenance room. I was told no, but that storage was near our room and he would ask them to quiet down. It was 5 am by this point. I managed to fall back to sleep despite the noise, but was awakened again a little before 8am as they were setting up again outside our "patio" door. I decided to just get my daughter and leave as were clearly not going to relax. I asked the front again as we left if there would be anymore events. I was told that should be all. We stayed out until the afternoon. Things were done when we came back, but quite the mess. They did start taking tables down that evening, but again it was loud. For this price point and tier I expected much better. No relaxing. No helping accommodate us with anything from noise to food to the pet. Again, it could have been better in many ways. Tired and disappointed is how this hotel left us.
"Comfortable stay in Santa Monica"
We stayed in Le Meridian in October 2016 for 5 nights. We stayed there as SPG platinum members, and as such were treated to an upgrade to deluxe room. The stay in the hotel was pleasant. Pros: The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are a number of helpful services such as free shuttle and bike rental. The room was spacious with a beautiful ocean view. Cons: Location. You need to walk a lot to reach the pier and promenade, or else you will need a taxi to get around. The breakfast was just ok, tasty but poor on choices.
This is my second stay at le meridian and I remain much as the title of this recommendation states...underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong the front desk staff are lovely and the food is rather good but the hotel itself as well as its meeting space is oh hum at best. The location in Santa Monica is quizzical. Although a quick walk to a lot is easy it's tucked away on Pico several blocks from the beach. It's less than .5 miles down to the beach but half the rooms face either an apartment building or the parking garage and the rest have tiny balconies overlooking the street where yes you can see the ocean if you have the right room but it's far away and (I believe) overpriced. Mind you there a a lot of options for good food within a 1.2 mile radius and it's a quick walk to the Santa Monica pier and the beach. But again I'm always let feeling there has to be a better option.
