"Best service from Bellman"

I would have given the hotel a 3 stars had it not been for the excellent and friendly bellman service as we departed. We checked our bags with bellman Antonio and then went to lunch. He remembered our name when we came back and got our bags and loaded us into our airport taxi. Room was as advertised for ocean view king - spacious and stylish living area and bathroom. Excellent gym. The stylish wide slat wooden blinds look great but do a poor job of keeping light out at night. The other issue is that we had a room that can connect with an adjacent room. The soundproofing of the interconnecting door is poor. We heard wood blinds sliding, conversations, alarms and phones ringing from the neighboring room. Not what I expect for $650/night. When a property charges a resort fee I expect the pool to be monitored and to have an attendant monitoring chair. That is not happening. People reserved chairs with towels and would disappear for hours and when people vacated chairs they did not put on fresh slip covers. As others have mentioned pool area is too small.

"Great location but falls short"

Things one would expect for over $600 per night: 1. Being able to get a pool chair for which the attendant will change the terry cover (On our last day of a 4-night stay, we finally saw a nice security guard checking on non-guests taking chairs and using towels - and he kicked 2 couples out who were freeloading! 2. Cleaning the stairwells - there was a banana peel in the stairwell our entire stay (see photo) 3. If the maids are going to keep checking the rooms, please leave more coffee pods to replace used ones without my having to leave a note 4. Speaking of coffee, why not serve complimentary coffee in the lobby like hotels which charge less? Oh, I guess the Starbucks concession would not like that. 5. If the hotel is going to have so many kids (noisy foosball table etc. by pool), why not have a kids area and kids pool so we don't need to worry about urine in the pool - and hottub, where there were many young kids? We did think the staff was -without exception - gracious and welcoming, but given the price, we'd expect more attention to detail Speaking of price, it kept changing on the internet - I cancelled and rebooked twice to get a lower fee - why is that up to the guest to keep checking? Very annoying.

"Almost excellent!"

Firstly, if we had left the day before we were due to, this review would have been called 'excellent' but on our last day things just slipped.... I'll come to that after the good bits. Great location, our room was on 5th floor with a double balcony and fire pit. Beware, all rooms do not have a balcony where you can sit, only Juliette style ones. It was clean, comfortable and big enough for the 4 of us for the 9 nights we stayed. Concierge were a great help when wanting information on the local area and help with dinner reservations. The breakfast was lovely, my kids loved the waffles and pancakes! The servers round the pool worked tirelessly, JC looked after us on a few days and was helpful and polite. People reserve sun beds and leave for the day, the good thing is that the staff do watch for beds and if they've not been used for a good while they remove the belongings and help with people who need beds. Unfortunately, on our last day an extremely rude, arrogant and aggressive 'lady' shouted at all the children playing in the pool because they were trying to do a 'class' - I've never seen anything like it! It was almost midday and it's not fair that visitors, in particularly children should have to stop playing unless the pool had been rented out privately - which it hadn't! We saw every morning some sort of water class taking place at 8.30/9am at which time the pool was empty and didn't cause anyone any harm - including the people in the pool. A woman of I'd guess 70+ years should know how to behave with some manners! While this isn't the hotel's fault, perhaps a review of people using the pool for these classes should be considered, children do splash, people want to do laps of the pool and to be told they can't isn't on! The other thing on the last day was the coffee shop ran out of everything but muffins before 9.45 (they actually had more in the back when I asked at the restaurant but the girls didn't know), been given the wrong change and no apology and being asked if we wanted the toast 'toasting' or should she put the butter on the bagel before toasting actually makes me smile now but at the time was frustrating! However, I would return and recommend this hotel, thank you for a great vacation!

"A bit of class by the beach in LA"

Enjoyed the hotel, staff attention very good. Bit pricey for drinks.great gym. Could do with a communal spa area for adults. The pool very busy with kids and very shallow and too warm. The hot tub full of kids and also too hot for this time of year.

Nice hotel... good location and services.. the lobby area is an excellent location to spend some time during the day..very close to third street and beach in addition to other attraction areas in both Santa Monica and Los Angeles.
