Over Kayenta Monument Valley Inn

"Interesting motel with gift shop"
The Wagon Wheel restaurant was large, busy, often with queues waiting to savour its typical American grub. $12 breakfast was OK - cold toast, but staff a bit grumpy. No wifi in bedroom, which is OK and has good air con system. The gift shop was excellent and full of varied items for sale. Reception staff helped me to make a phone call (free).
Not lots of places to stay here. Comfortable beds and clean enough. The place needs some maintenance like paint on the exterior and the furnishings are showing some wear. Peeling wallpaper in the bathroom. We had planned to have breakfast or lunch in their dining room, but we missed the breakfast hour. They closed completely instead of staying open and serving lunch. There were not many other options nearby that weren't fast food either which didn't make me happy.
"Adequate but overpriced"
We made it to the hotel early afternoon on a hot day and were disappointed that the pool had closed for the season. The second disappointment came in form of "no airconditioning" in a windowless room (there is a window to let light in, but no fresh air can come in). Other than that the rooms are certainly adequate and staff friendly enough. It's just too expensive for what you get.
"Pet friendly close to Monument Valley"
Very clean and located near Monument Valley. We stayed with our pets and we were treated very well by staff. Room service was available which was nice. This is an older building so if you are on the first floor you will hear those above. We will definitely go back there.
"Massively overpriced, avoid if possible"
We stayed here during a four week road trip to the US during which we stayed in 19 different hotels/motels. This was by far the worst value. The room was okay but a bit dowdy and rundown. The food was average for a US motel, which means that it was just about fit for human consumption. It cost €260 including 20% tax. At $150 it would have been okay but $260 is rip off territory. Kayenta itself has nothing to recommend itself. We only stayed there because it was fairly near Monument Valley. The previous night we stayed in Gouldings in MV. It was $303 including tax but we had far better accomodation and a restaurant that served decent food, so there was no sense of being ripped off. Probably the only reason to stay in Kayenta is if you are visiting MV but it would be better to stay in Gouldings or maybe north of the Valley to avoid Kayenta. The other motels in Kayenta seem to have a similar approach to pricing to this one.
