"Convenient location but terrible parking situation"

We stopped here overnight on our way home from the Grand Canyon. My friend had stayed here before and had a wonderful experience and so she was really looking forward to staying here again. Our stay started out very badly. First, we had trouble finding a place to park. Then we were assigned a room over by the pool and given unclear directions as to how to find it. The signage at the hotel is terrible and we stumbled around for awhile before we finally found the room. It was horrible! There was only one working light bulb in the entire room. It smelled terrible. It was near the pool, which we did not want. So we hiked back to the lobby and begged the front desk for another room. My friend told them what room she had stayed in before and they agreed to put us in a double room that was off the same patio and far from the pool. This was so much better! The room had plenty of light, except for one dark corner outside the bathroom. There was a full length mirror there but no lighting so it was unclear how the mirror could be of much help - LOL!. Here are the pros and cons after we changed rooms: PROS: 1. The bed was very comfortable. 2. The room was fairly large and had a table with two chairs so both of us could sit at it with our laptops. That was nice. 3. The bathroom had a granite shower and good lighting over the sink/counter. 4. The hotel's location is VERY convenient - just one block from the main street of Palm Springs. Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. 5. There was free wi-fi but it was very slow. 6. The room was up against the mountains, which was nice. CONS: 1. The water in the shower was barely a trickle. Worst water pressure I've ever had in a hotel. 2. Instead of soap, there were two dispensers on the shower wall. However, they were not marked. So you didn't know exactly what was in them (soap, shampoo, conditioner?). Unless one was willing to risk washing their hair with conditioner, they weren't really usable. 3. The parking situation is terrible. I'm not sure they actually have enough parking for all their guests as they suggested we could also use street parking. But with the hotel being that close to shops and restaurants, of course all the street parking was taken also. There was an interior lot that was gated closed the night we were there but mysteriously was opened the next morning. We could see our car from our room but we couldn't actually get to it. We had a long hike around the block to get to and from our car.

"Quaint place, nothing fancy, very good for the price."

I stayed here for a friend's wedding and had a pleasant stay. The hotel's layout was very much a mid-century motor inn: blocks of two-story building units with the rooms opening outdoors. The front door to my room faced the street, but the back door opened out to the pool area. The room had a mini-deck for al fresco enjoyment. The pool area was nice and quiet. Plenty of people out on a hot day, but nothing rowdy. The place attracts an older, calmer clientele, so no meat market or white parties to be found here. The room itself was simple. Ordinary TV, nothing fancy. Ordinary decor, nothing new, gimmicky, nor flashy. Old, but clean enough. The room had an air conditioner (swamp cooler?) and a ceiling fan. All in all, not remarkable, but good enough. The hotel itself is situated a block away from the main drag. So close, and yet the whole street is so calm and quiet.

"Very outdated"

I have stayed here in the past and the rooms are SUPER outdated with a bad smell in them. The only good thing is its location. I will be returning the end of December and I expect to see some major changes and to have an updated room that does not smell like mold or I will be done with this place and not come back. How can you not care to update your rooms and charge over 130$/night for them?

"Not Worth the Price"

As a solo traveler, I visited the Palm Mountain Resort in March, gave it 5 circles and hoped to visit again. Upon my second visit, 3 circles seems almost a stretch. This time a friend and I booked a “courtyard double”. This almost corner room on the 2nd floor by the pool (211) had no view, just pool noise. The room stunk – perhaps some kind of cleaning spray. Only 1 of the 3 lights we tried worked. We returned to the lobby and requested a room change. I suggested a room in the section where I had stayed before. The two desk clerks were accommodating and we were given room 169 which is an end room on a small courtyard. It was similar to my previous room in that it was cheerfully appointed though as there were 2 beds, while I’d had a nice couch, this room had a single chair in a corner with a lamp that could have only been plugged in if one unplugged the air conditioner/heater! The room was good sized with comfortable beds, a ceiling fan, dresser with 3 large drawers and wide closet, full-length mirrors, a small microwave and refrigerator. A large area near the closet had no lighting. A table provided room for 2 laptops with sockets and a lamp. Though a single cup coffee maker was provided, it sat on a shelf that could barely be pulled out sufficiently without disconnecting the short cord. We were close to the office and business center, nevertheless Wifi was quite poor and inadequate for uploading or even viewing photos online. Signage is really needed to direct guests to rooms as orienting to the map is tricky. The location of the hotel is great for walking to restaurants and shopping. We got the very last parking space and had a long haul to our first room. I don’t know where those who came after us parked. The modern bathroom boasted plenty of towels and good lighting. Other negatives were the fact that the shower barely reached a trickle and though there were 2 dispensers in the shower, they were unlabeled so it was impossible to know if one was showering with soap or shampoo! When I mentioned to one of the desk clerks what an enjoyable experience I had had staying there previously, he mentioned something about a lot had changed since my last visit but did not elaborate. If this meant quality had declined, that is true. This hotel is not worth the price and I wouldn’t consider staying there again.

"Excellent location at an incredible price. Excellent Staff!"

While this hotel is ideally located in the heart of Palm Spring, I would not call it a resort level hotel as it tries to position itself to be. Instead, I would classify this as a solid 3 star hotel. Located only 1 block to Hwy 111, the entire family could easily walk to the downtown area within minutes. One of the things this hotel has going for it is the incredible staff. Rooms are spacious and appear to have been upgraded in the recent past. Once word of caution though, the beds are very hard and the pillows are very small. The bathrooms are good size with one sink and a shower / tub combination. It was a nice addition to find that the rooms have a small refrigerator. The TV was an adequate LED flat screen with a good selection of channels. The 4 nights we spent there was quiet and uneventful. They do give you a gift card for what they call a continental breakfast at Ruby’s Diner, however that just translates into credit for any item on the menu for $3, but it is free. Speaking of free, this hotel has free parking and free Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi is about the speed of as good dial up service. The pool area has just been remodeled and both the pool and Jacuzzi are large and heated. For the sun bathers out there, there is plenty of room to catch a quick California tan. One thing to keep in mind, this hotel site right next to a very high mountain which can totally block out the Sun early in the day depending what time of the year you stay there. About the only negative I found with this hotel is that there is a large amount of cement located throughout the property. Being that Palm Springs can get hot and dry, they tend to water a lot so there can be and there is a lot of wet cement areas that can possibly be a slip and fall hazard. A little bit of caution and common sense should avoid that. Overall, it’s a great hotel in a excellent location at an affordable price and I would stay there again.
