We were there many times for brunch during the several months we spent in Phoenix, during last 10 years . The foods were always excellent and every person was very kind. Each time we make a walk in the splendid gardens, around the swimming pool and casitas. I'm excited because I'll be there for next Christmas.
Absolutely a lovely space to relax and enjoy. Food was outstanding. Spa? AH-MAzing! Not your standard boutique hotel. Can't say enough about the service, the relaxing atmosphere and beautiful home away from home. I am a very satisfied customer. It really doesn't get any better than this!
We stayed at this resort for three nights and enjoyed the peaceful intimate experience with views of Camelback mountain. The grounds and gardens were beautiful with numerous secluded areas and courtyards and the pool was very relaxing even though a little small for the size of the resort. The fire pits in the evening were good to relax around and the restaurant offered outdoor seating for both breakfast and dinner. This isn't really a family hotel but offers a very relaxing adult experience and does allow pets.
"An old fashioned resort that is not for people wanting hustle and bustle"
You can sense the Royal Palms was once a home. The entrance is gracious and intimate in scale. Reception is welcoming if a bit sloppy looking, with bellman at the ready to help you to your room. The facility is gracious but definitely shows some signs of wear, again, more like a family home than a brand new perfect hotel. I was off the Montavista terrace in room 233, which had a nice outdoor area with a gas fireplace and an outdoor shower, which was nice in the 90+ degree heat. The room was adequately appointed, but had some issues. The 10+ year old cordless phone had the antenna broken off and so didn't work well. The in room safe was loose in a cabinet (so you could just pick it up an leave with it), and included no instructions whatsoever, so a bellman had to be called to open it. There were no instructions about the fireplace anywhere (call housekeeping, and they'll come to light it). There was no writing paper in the room, and lighting was poor for reading. There was a small desk with an actual cable for internet access (again, 10 years old), but wireless was available and adequate. Linen was simple white and beds were comfortable, though. The bathroom was large, with both indoor and outdoor shower and a tub. It had reasonable toiletries, but towels were stuffed hidden under the sink, and they were rather coarse. Bathrobes were appreciated. Carpeting seemed clean, furniture rather worn, but there was a clean smell and overall the room was fine, if dated. The overall facility is linked by small pathways through arcades and gardens, involving steps up and down (so anyone who is walking impaired might struggle. There are several public seating areas in pretty courtyards, some with reflecting pools and fountains and/or firepits. You get nice views here and there of Camelback. The spa is professionally run and I heard only positive comments about the treatments. The pool, likewise, has a nice assortment of seating, a few cabanas that can be reserved, a hot tub, and a bar/eatery. Service around the pool is good, with servers frequently circulating and bringing simple food from the grill and a good assortment of drinks. From one side of the pool you can get a nice view of Camelback while you enjoy the sun or shade. T. Cook's restaurant has good to excellent food. The service, however, can run very hot or very cold. Frequently breakfast service just fell flat on its face, with waits of up to an hour for a simple meal. Room service may be a better choice, that was always on time in the morning. The restaurant is attractive and spacious inside. The Mix Up bar, next to the restaurant, seemed to have much better service, and offered a good selection of well crafted cocktails and a nice number of wines by the glass. My only negative experience in the bar was a super loud and obnoxious pre wedding party of women who were howling and shrieking like they were in some bad frat house party; and, the presence of a few older women who, if they weren't prostitutes, certainly gave every appearance of being so. There are no tennis courts, there is no golf course...so this is not the Phoenician...it's a quieter, subtler place.
"Woke up in a castle."
Every 'nook and cranny' of The Royal Palms Resort is special. There is so much history in the walls and artwork, it's hard not to feel like you're in a Spanish castle. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a flute of champagne and directed to our room with the Bellman. I enjoyed a peaceful bubble bath in our giant, Japanese soaking tub, and then a blissful sleep in the king bed. We enjoyed our coffee in custom Royal Palm mugs on our balcony overlooking the Camelback Mt. The pool was very relaxing and a great temperature for the Arizona heat. They have umbrellas and towels already set up for you so you can enjoy a cocktail from the poolside bar/restaurant. All staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We have no complaints and hope to return again soon.
