Over Royal Palms Resort & Spa

"Exquisite neighborhood gem."
This was our first time staying at the Royal Palms and could not have been more impressed. The staff are incredible and the rooms were lovely. The pool is beautiful, although a bit small. Great location !
"A Fail! BEWARE Deceptive Advertising -Hyatt is the Wrong Brand for this Property"
I have written three previous 5 star reviews of T Cooks (including this visit). Every time we are are in Arizona we find our way to The Royal Palms for dinner and the magical evening stroll that follows through this very enchanting formerly exclusive small luxury property. We finally decided to stay this time and we made a serious mistake. I preface this review by saying I spoke with the Guest Relations manager who satisfactorily addressed my concerns before leaving and could not have been nicer, but I felt so duped I still had to write this review for other discerning travellers. Before booking, note there are two websites running concurrently and both fail to mention this already small resort is 90% closed due to renovations. No rooms look like what is on Trip Advisor or one of their concurrently running former website. False Advertising 101! What would it take Hyatt to state “under renovation†as it just made the purchase? Speaking of renovations, this is a gorgeous Spanish hacienda style resort and the new furnishings in our room were just too modern and did not fit the ambiance of the resort. Few more fails: Starting with the Spa. It may have been tops in 2015 but man this place is in need of a massive spa upgrade! These days it is NOT the best in Arizona or Phoenix/Scottsdale by any means. For example, another hot tub instead of plunge pool area outside in a top spa that resides in 90+ degree weather 6 months out of the year? Steam room was supposed to be eucalyptus? Not on the men’s side. Floor was dirty with dirt and there was only 2 temps (off and scorching) We booked spa package. My wife made sure I knew of discounts. But as a guy I was checked out at full price with 20% tip (before mentioning being burned by the hot stone massage by the therapist). When I corrected the spa staff she was shocked I was aware of the discount and spitefully asked if I wanted the champagne too. My wife did enjoy the spa and it definitely caters to women more than men, which is fine. The relaxation room is painted bright Yellow and has antiquated loungers with lighting that is reminiscent of an office floor not a spa. We stayed in August, perhaps the hottest month of the year when many other resorts in the area waive resort and parking fees. Note the $25 parking fee includes gratuities to the valets, but they kept looking for and taking your tips anyway on arrivals and departures. Pool service was attentive and the salads were excellent. This was the highlight of our stay BUT the pool is open 24 hours so when you go for a morning swim towels are not cleaned up until 10am and it just looks bad! Check-in Concierge: Beware if you receive an email from the concierge staff pre-arrival, for if you take them up on their offer and reply with a special request (our case early check-in after arriving from East Coast), they never reply. Check-in was typical insincere corporate Hyatt and Starwood garbage babble. “No your room is not ready, check in is at 4pm.†We had the only double spa suite in the hotel and probably paid full season rates in the dead of summer. We noted during our stay that the resort had a serious problem with housekeeping. Check out is at 11am; we arrived at 2:15pm. If a suite guest is anticipated early why was the room not attended to with priority? Partial Answer: they never read my email request. We experienced very delayed housekeeping during our stay. I can go on with other issues but the main frustration here is that this property used to be the most exclusive small luxury resort in the area. It definitely is NOT now. Accolades are out of date and if I sent Conde Nast, Andrew Harper and Robb Report here right now, they would pan this place. The property is fantastically beautiful if you are a fan of hacienda style, but buyer beware this new corporate owner is engaging in false advertising and overcharging while most of this tiny resort is shut for renovations. Don’t explore the property at night as either the path lights are shut off or non-existent and frankly dangerous. One safety suggestion for management is to hand out small branded clicker flashlights on check-in as the property is too beautiful not to explore under the stars. We were so annoyed at the pre-arrival deception, we explored other small properties for our next return trip. If you are considering Royal Palms for what it used to be, seriously consider The Hermosa Inn until such time big brand Hyatt proves it is a worthy operator of this small historic resort.
"Beautiful historic resort experience"
The Royal Palms Resort and Spa is a unique property which expresses personal, warm service. The property is beautiful, and parts are undergoing renovation, which should be great. Interesting grounds with lush landscaping.
"1 Day at the Royal Palms Resort & Spa"
Special occasion with my wife Toni!! Absolutely beautiful resort! A great spa as per my wife! Food and service was excellent at the pool and especially outstanding at T Cooks! Highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for that special getaway with that special someone!!1
"All good but a tad annoyed"
This is a top notch resort with great service and a lovely property. I was a tad annoyed by how hard it was to find my room. When I was there a certain percentage of the rooms were closed off, for remodeling I think. Therefore my room was a stretch away from the entrance. A very long walk with many turns, dark walkways and poor signage. Also the rooms, while recently renovated are very dated. A huge hot tub in the middle of the room? Why?! Yellow tiling in the shower stall? So 80's. The resort does have great character though.
