It was like being in a shoe box with a bathroom. The bed is super small but, the staff was very nice. The room service was decent and they did offer us a ride to our next location. It was fine for an over night stay and would be ok for a single traveler.

I had to stay in a hotel due to water damage in my apartment here in San Diego. I had a very difficult time dealing with my property manager & the insurance but the staff at Handlery were exceptionally helpful. I originally called & spoke with Luke in the reservations dept. who was by far one of the most patient & helpful individuals I spoke to. The hotel accounting department had a lovely woman named Kimberly that helped me out tremendously. She was able to speak with my property manager's insurance agent to get a check mailed out next day to the hotel to cover the hotel stay. The fact that the hotel was so accommodating during this difficult time was such a relief. When I checked in I had nothing but warm welcomes & friendly helpful people all very understanding of my situation. I was checked in by Wanita who was so polite & assured me I could ask her for anything during my stay. I then had numerous encounters with multiple staff members who made me feel so welcomed. I had a vending machine take my dollar bill & not provide me with my soda so I went to the front desk to see what my options were. I was greeted by Ben who was so helpful every time I had any issues. He provided me with a card to fill out & replaced my dollar immediately. Later on in my stay I had great service from Theresa who handled receiving the information that my check from the insurance company had been received which took the worry of it not being handled during my stay off my shoulders. I had a great stay here & would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great relaxing stay at a hotel in San Diego. The pool is large & has a hot tub. They have a lot of amenities & a restaurant in the lobby with a great bartender name Lupe. He was always so nice & prompt with any orders I made with him. To the management of this establishment you have a wonderful team of people & they all deserve to be commended for the ease they put me at for this unfortunate situation I had to endure. They turned my nightmare into a mini vacation & I will forever be grateful! Thank you again, Ben, Theresa, Kimberly, Luke, Lupe & Wanita!
We checked in 11/17/16. The night clerk put us in a room facing the parking lot. The room was heavily sprayed with harsh cleaning fluid. I asked the night clerk if he could change our room, even though there were many available rooms, he refused to move us.This guy was a real jerk and was very unhelpful and may have purposely put us in the worst vacant room.Since it was going to be a prepaid 3 day stay, I needed to get out of this room, so the next day I asked the clerk that was there in the morning to please change my room and he did with no problem, he was very courteous and professional. The new room was a big improvement and I thanked the clerk for his help. The staff other than the night clerk at checkin were friendly. Unfortunately, by time we checked out on Sunday, I had several bed bug bites that may have been related to the first room at checkin. So because of the bites and the clerk at checkin I will never stay here again.
The staff is what make this hotel. We found the hotel was great for getting us to our location as it has a shuttle service but there isn't anything that is walking distance to get to go out for tea as we didn't have a vehicle to drive in. The hotel is outdated, the rooms and beds are small and bathroom is small as well. The rooms when first enter smell musty but once in you don't tend to smell it. The hotel has a restaurant but the variety isn't great if you are staying more than a couple of nights. Lupe the barman when we arrived was great and Eric the guy who drove the shuttle was fantastic . It really needs a facelift but it did the job.

I had trouble unloading a lot of large items in through the front doors of the Handlery for a trade show, but Ameer helped out and even assisted in things when he saw I was in need of another set of hands. Way above and beyond! Thanks Ameer, that is real customer service that the Handlery should be proud of for their staff going above any beyond.
