Over Fairmont San Francisco

"The Genuine Article"
If you could stay somewhere that made you feel welcome, comfortable, safe and awed all at the same time, this is the place. The rooms are very well appointed and comfortable, The Hotel is historic and beautiful, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Everything is as it should be when staying at a first class hotel. The parking was included with the room which made it well worth our time spent there, because parking in SF can be outrageous.
We decided on a weekend getaway to the city to celebrate our little sons 3rd birthday. Upon driving up to the hotel entrance we were greeted cordially by the valet staff. Check in was a breeze. Our room was as promised. "Panoramic city views" in the tower with king bed. Room was clean, nicely decorated. Bed was comfy. Bathroom was huge. Separate bath tub and shower area. No hairdryer. Shower head lacked water pressure no matter how you adjusted the settings. The hotel grounds are a little dated; but then again the building is historical. The lobby looked like a lavishly decorated museum. The lobby and hallways smell very pleasant. Not sure what scent they have pumping through the air. The flowers in the lobby were arranged beautifully. The roof top Garden was accessible through the lobby level. It would have been nice if there were heating lamps throughout the roof top garden. Also, lighting was minimal at the rooftop garden after sunset. Laurel Court offers afternoon tea for over $100 for two. Lovely experience, but hubby would never do it again. The lunch and dinner menus offered a good variety. I appreciated they also had a children's menu to select from. In-room dining was lacking in variety. Husband was looking for simple pleasures like "fish and chips" but did not find any. The in-room breakfast menu had a huge selection. We've stayed in many hotels over the years and have experienced varying levels of hospitality. This is our second Fairmont property we have stayed at, and I have to say, the Fairmont hospitality is unlike any other. They pride themselves in providing anything the guests need at any hour of the day.
"Like visiting Versailles!"
Beautiful Grand Hotel. Beautiful rooms and very helpful, friendly servers. Only problem was elevators in main building were not working properly. Great location. Expensive but not obscene. Bar made super cocktails at moderate prices...by San Francisco standards. Best experience was the ambiance and service.
"Solid 4/5 but could be better"
Spent 5 days at Fairmont. It's situated at the top of the hill so whilst it's a 10min walk to the city centre, expect a very steep way back up. Nonetheless the location is great with lots of places to eat/drink close by but suggest a taxi on return. The hotel has a number of bars/restaurants and the overall decor has the "grand" feel to it with classical architecture and expensive carpets throughout. It feels "period", but not tired. Slight annoyance with the building was that the two lifts available were constantly full so it was quicker taking the stairs. Tried room service once but was disappointed with the quality. The Club sandwich was made of cheap ingredients like sliced cheese (aka mature cheddar) and chicken ham (aka carved chicken $20). Other points I felt was lacking was no bath robes or room slippers which IMO should be included especially if you are paying $400/night. Also if you want fast internet you have to pay, again this should be free in this day and age. Also offer of newspaper or taking the luggage upstairs should be standard but was not offered. Anyway the hotel was pretty good but I hoped for something better for the money.
"Amazing Iconic Hotel!"
The Fairmont San Francisco is a historic and elegant hotel. It is located on top of Nob Hill and has commanding views of the city and the Bay. It was built at the start of the last century. The building survived the great earthquake of 1906 but was gutted by the ensuing fires. Today, the Fairmont is a world renowned, grand, luxury hotel. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming but very elegant. The suite was excellent! It was finely appointed, very comfortable, and had amazing views. The staff were all great and the service was excellent. Everyone was professional, courteous, warm, friendly, kind, and very helpful. The only negatives were the restaurants and the parking. Breakfast was very expensive and left a lot to be desired. The Tonga restaurant was okay but seemed out of place in the luxurious Fairmont. We decided to cancel our reservations at the elegant Laurel Court Restaurant after reading many disappointing trip advisor reviews. Finally, we're from New York and are used to paying a lot to park in the city, but $70 per night is an excessive parking fee. It cost a lot more per day to park the Impala at the Fairmont than to rent it from Avis!
