Over Fairmont San Francisco

"Nice stay, but a bit too touristy"
We stayed on level 6 of the main building. The room was spacious, but the bathroom was a bit old. Our room had a view of the city and some of the harbour. The lobby had elaborate Christmas decorations and the gingerbread house was very impressive. However, this also made the Fairmont a tourist attraction, making it less exclusive. The restaurants and bar were also often fully booked for this reason. Apart from that, we had a great stay at the Fairmont.
"A CONVENTION HOTEL"
This hotel is not for everyone. So many conventions, so many people all over the lobby. Food carts everywhere, so when you get off elevators there are food carts. They say the hotel was renovated. I think a very small amount of money was spent as it is old and fusty. There is even a must smell. The rooms are ordinary in 3 star category. I travel every month and stay in top hotels around world I could not wait to leave. I have to say the staff was very pleasant. The answer for this hotel is to close for 2 years and gut renovate inside keeping the beautiful historic ceilings etc but changing everything else. Successfully done in Paris Peninsula,Ritz, Crillon Connaught all historic hotels that got a real facelift Someone has to spend the money, but as it is full all the time they do not want to
"Best SF Downtown Location!"
I stayed here in March, 2016 with my husband for his conference trip. He went to conference during the day while I worked from hotel room for my work. We went out for dinner and followed with a nice walk around downtown SF everyday. There is a cable car stop at the corner of the hotel (California and Powell) which was the only transportation we need to places we wanted. The hotel is in a quiet area but not far from all the actions specially with the cable car connections. We enjoyed the nice walk to the near by Grace Cathedral, or a short ride to Cable Car Museum where we found it has very interesting history, or another short ride to Chinatown or Italian district for delicious food, or take a longer ride to Fisherman Wharf or connect to a bus ride to Japanse town or Golden Gate Park. It is very convenient to go everywhere. Our room was very clean and to our surprise it had a small sitting room separated from the bedroom which was very nice bonus since my husband is an early bird likes to read, watch news and drink his coffee. The staff were very friendly and they filled up the mini bar everyday with complimentary Fairmont brand tea bags which I loved so much that I bought some home from their shop. Overall our experience at this hotel from check in to check out was wonderful. We used to stayed in the suburbs when visiting SF but not after this experience, we will stay in downtown SF and definitely at Fairmont in the future. I can not wait to go back!
"Nothing new to report - unless they have improved the Wifi."
We have been here several times before and always like the place a lot. It is in a great location and is always clean, comfortable, and well staffed. The only thing new to report is the wifi. It could be that it is not new but that this is the first time we have noticed it. There is free wifi in the lobby and in the cafe on P level. I am happy to report this because I had previously boycotted Fairmont hotels for a couple of years because of their nickel & dime tactic of charging for wifi. I think it still costs to get it in your room but it is available for free in the lobby and some other areas. So to this I say good news and it's about time. Hotels that charge $39.00 a night provide free wifi and there is no reason that expensive hotel can't do it. We like the place a lot and will be back.
"Lovely Grand Old Hotel, Some negative points."
Second time stay for me at this wonderful grand old hotel, Amazing to arrive into, Lovely elegant spacious rooms. Queried the charge for internet in room, and was told that as I booked through Expedia that it wasn't included. This made me feel a bit like a 2nd class citizen - not nice, yes ok I may have gotten quite a good rate, but it was certainly far from cheap! Secondly given that this is an old hotel the water pressure for a bath or shower is not great. When I decided to take a bath it would have taken nearly an hour to fill the tub sufficiently. Thirdly we needed to scan and email a document - so given the fact that we already had a user pays opinion of this hotel we went to the business center. Unfortunately we swiped a card but realised the scanner could only attach to a USB port and not email a copy of a scan - so we didnt do anything. Unfortunately we were charged 20USD for this. We actually queried this at reception and they helped us to scan and email but couldnt resolve the charges as the business center is outsourced to UPS. So overall nice hotel, very classy but slightly arrogant.
