Over Fairmont San Francisco

"Takes you back in time!"
Attended a conference at this hotel. As far as hotels go, this is a beautiful place, great location (at the top of the hill!), and friendly staff. I would definitely stay again if I find myself back in SF. Good wifi, clean rooms.
Fantastic Stay! I can't wait to return. Beautiful view, clean room, top of the line staff, great response to needs, the food and drinks are a bit over priced so we opted to eat at other fabulous SF restaurants.
"Great Hotel -- Deserving of the Fairmont name"
Was in SFO for a few days and stayed at the Fairmont since it was recommended by some of my local colleagues. Great pick! I was late to arrive because of a three hour delay (thanks UA) and ended up arriving a bit late. I was greeted by Anna who could tell I had a rough day, and she was able to find a nice room for me. Super thoughtful. Hotel is a classic and really enjoyed staying there. The one "warning" I'll share is that it is at the top of a hill. So it's easy to walk down, but a very tough walk up! Of course the cable car is nearby which is helpful. Overall -- great hotel in a wonderful location.
"Smells like its 100 years old"
I hated this hotel. Stayed here from a recommendation of a friend! First off, I had an awful experience before I even arrived. My husband wanted me to call and ask if they had HBO. I called the front desk and the girl who answered didn't know if they had HBO. I thought it was a simple question. She said yes, then no, then yes, I said which is it, yes or no. She was abrupt with me and I told her to chill that it was a simple question and she hung up on me!!! I was in complete shock! I immediately called back to speak with a manager. I did and he apologized. I said that I needed to speak to my husband if we even wanted to stay there anymore. I was told that I prepaid! I then proceeded to ask for the manager of the front desk manager that I just spoke to. The operations manager called me immediately. Apologized again. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. Mind you this was all over my husband wanting to watch the premiere of the "Game of Thrones." When we arrived at the hotel we walked into the room to a dish of sweets with a "Game of Thrones" theme. I found that obnoxious. We stayed in a one bedroom suite in the main building with a balcony. The bed was so uncomfortable and the bathroom was so small and the closet was even smaller. We had to get a garment bar to put our clothes on. It was three of us. I had prearranged a SUV pick up from the hotel from the airport. The charge was $400.00 dollars...what a rip off. The house car was never available to take us to dinner...not one night out of the six nights we were there. We ate at the restaurant one night and it was disgusting. My husband and I both had burgers that were paper thin and had no flavor. I swear they were from COSTCO. Gross! Preordered room service for breakfast the night before for delivery at 9:30 am, received a call at 9:30 that it would be 15 minutes late. Ugh, I have no patience for that. When if finally arrived at 9:50 of course it was missing an item. The minibar charges were off the chart. A can of coke was $6.00!! When I received my bill via email they didn't give me the hotel credit of $400.00 dollars. When I called and inquired she said I didn't book that package. I did and I wasn't going to argue with her. What amazed me the most that after my experience before arriving while I was there I never received a call from ANY manager asking me how everything was and if I needed anything. When I travel to LA I stay at the Wilshire and in NY, the Lowes or the Ritz. These other hotels are more focused on customer service and amenities. Do not stay here if you expect awesome customer service. You won't get it. The best part of the hotel was the housekeeping...they did an awesome job!
We booked 2 nights recently at the Fairmont Hotel on an online site and the only available room was a queen no view room. In spite of that we decided to reserve. It was not cheap but we decided to splurge for a couple of days..after all 5 star would make up for the lack of views. The room was a decent size but was definitely in need of a face lift. The bed was comfortable but squeaky. The tv HD channels were not HD and some stations were fuzzy. We were not there to watch television but that was disappointing. The wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling. I was quite surprised that there was no turn down service as this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. It was crazy busy in the lobby the entire weekend but it felt more like a lobby in Las Vegas than a premium hotel in San Francisco. When my friends learned we stayed here they oohed and Ah'd but I had to say that it was not quite up to my expectations. Perhaps we'll give it another go sometime, maybe with a nicer room and a view but unfortunately this time we had little choice. The Tonga room was a lot of fun and the location was beautiful.
