"The 'just okay' hotel"
We are travelling around the US and decided not to spend a whole lot of money on hotels (but on things to do) So I do realize we opted for budget hotels. But this was (for the price of 119$ a night, without parking fee) below my expectations The room was clean and the bed was good. And it ends there. We didn't even have a fridge in the room... The TV had horrible signal,... Would not go there again. Even in LA we had a better room including parking and breakfast for less $
"It has the potential to Be Good"
We loved how central this was to so many great restaurants but the beds and the pillow will leave us nursing our joints as we spend the day walking the city. Staff was pleasant and for San Fransisco the price was excellent.
"Ideal for the 02"
This hotel is clean and the staff are so helpful. The rooms are very small but if you only plan on being there just to change and go out then it's ideal. Did find it strange there was no tv in the room but not a huge deal for me personally. Absolutely fantastic if you are attending the 02 for any events as right next door is the Emirates cable cars which take you straight over to the 02. They do close at 10pm so you would have to find alternative transport back. Try not to get a taxi though as a 3 mile trip back cost us £40!!!!! There is a tube right outside the 02 though I would return there for any future 02 events as it was ideal
"Anything but Good!"
This was an awful place. The rooms were very small, only twin or double beds. It was very noisy - you could hear footsteps above, voices in the hall and rooms. The room smelled of so much Febreze I thought I would have an allergy attack. And the neighborhood is transitional at best. The staff was accommodating and moved our room when I complained about the 2 twin beds. But the next room, which I was told was their "best" room, wasn't a lot better. The carpet and bed felt like they hadn't been cleaned in months (though they were). It was just old and tattered. We only stayed one night, and that was too long.
"Budget hotel at a non-budget price"
I booked this hotel about 3 months previous to my trip. What I paid for the hotel at the time I would think that it was going to be a higher end budget hotel. When I actually turned up, my budget hotel scale slide down to average or low end of the budget hotel scale. The first impression of the hotel and the area came from our taxi driver who said "oh wow, well my advice is don't go left or right. Actually, don't go forward at night, actually don't walk anywhere at night. This area used to be nice, but not anymore. Take a Lyft or Uber anywhere you go." Not exactly the most welcoming sentence to receive, but good advice. My impression of the hotel was slightly skewed due to the previous high end hotel I had stayed in, but I quickly lowered my expectations. Check-in was smooth and the lady who checked us in was really nice and friendly. The room was as described on their website, but it still doesn't justify the price I paid, but I think this is indicative of San Francisco. The first night I stayed here, the room was COLD! Due to utter tiredness, I couldn't really be bothered to contact reception, but that was my fault. I just used the extra blanket in the room. What I did find strange was that there was a radiator in the room but you can't control it, it's extremely old and there no controls on it either for the guest to use. Due to the closeness and the area, it's not exactly quiet at any time of the day and the flimsy windows in the bathroom don't help with noise reduction either. The bed was comfy, the shower was nice with a good pressure and the room was clean which is what I expected. The bathroom window however is an old sash window which doesn't create a proper seal and lets a draft in. As it's right next to the toilet, it's not nice if you have to sit there for any length of time. It also doesn't have a curtain or blind and it's a big window, so early in the morning, massive amounts of sunlight stream through, which is annoying when you're trying to sleep even with the bathroom door open. The WiFi in the room was brilliant and couldn't have asked for better. With regards to the location, whilst it wasn't the nicest area, it was about a 10 minute walk to Union Square and about 15 minutes in a taxi to the Castro and probably about 20 minutes in a taxi to the Golden Gate bridge (depending on traffic), so it's a very good location overall. Overall, I would say that the Good Hotel is just about Good, so not exactly a trades description act violation, but I'm not sure I would stay here again for the money I paid. I would probably pay a bit more and stay somewhere a bit nicer.
