This is a very nice hotel and a little quirky. Room was a good size and had a dart board which was fun. They also have a recycle bin which I liked. It is conveniently located to transport, restaurants and supermarket. Staff are friendly and helpful. Would recommend this hotel to my friends.
San Francisco is an expensive city, and there's nothing you can do about that. The Hotel Zephyr is located in prime position at Fishermans Wharf. Walking distance to many of the sites surrounding that area, Lombard Street, and a short uber ride away to many other areas. The hotel is quirky, fun and definitely has it's own personality. The staff were all wonderful, with a special mention to the exceptional bellman who was always a friendly, smiling face throughout the hotel. My room had a view of the bay and Alcatraz, as well as a big cement car park a few floors below. The room was comfortable and relatively quiet, however for the money I spent a few things let me down. A small cupboard was off its hinges and had to be lifted to be opened to gain access to the mini fridge, and I was constantly worried this would break. The remote control for the TV was missing its backing so the batteries kept popping out. The lights in the room flickered at random times throughout my entire stay. Overall, I would stay there again on my return to San Francisco. Definitely just a few small things that the hotel needs to fix up, but nothing that overall would affect anyone's stay in this amazing location.
"Design belies how basic this hotel is"
Good location for the tourists spots around Fisherman's Wharf, rooms are a decent size though generally it's overpriced for what you get. There's no restaurant, air con in the rooms is in need of a refresh, beds are pretty hard, rooms on the main street side of the hotel are noisy, and things seem to break regularly. This seems to be a favorite hotel with big tour groups (never a good sign). There are some smart design elements - a giant seagull installation in the reception, wall coverings that make it look like you're inside a shipping container in the rooms, murals throughout the hotel, and so on. Which all give it a modern feel but it's all cladding and looks to mask the fact that this is a really basic hotel.
"First stay in San Francisco"
Loved the vicinity, we knew it was going to be a little bit noisy during the night, but buddy beating on the drums til five in the morning! Like really?(same song all night). Hotel's staff was great. Outside back yard was nice. Fire pits and such. View from waterfront side is awesome. Price........double what it should be though. Oh yeah.......no food available as well.
"Funky hotel amidst the action!"
Zephyr is the cool kid on the block. The lounge area on entry is littered with comfy lounges and quirky art (the life sized statue of Robin Williams deserves a special mention). There is a games room for chillin out with friends/family and the oversized outdoor courtyard has seating, a water fountain and fire pits. The bedrooms are spacious, contain a much appreciated coffee pod machine and have basic amenities. For those of you interested in the shower situation, it's a bath/shower combo, the shower head is big and the water pressure is good! We stayed in a room with a king bed and it was comfy AF. Best sleep if had for ages! The only three issues I encountered were; no bar onsite so you have to venture out of the complex to find grog to enjoy in the courtyard (luckily we found one just a block down at a convenience store), there is no mini bar and we were situated near the lifts so we constantly heard kids and loud adults running down the hall like a herd of elephants. Ask for a room away from the lifts and you'll be sweet.
