"Great charming resort on the beach."
Terrific place like a giant Spanish hacienda Beautiful inside and out. Everything is well maintained and rooms are well appointed. Rooms have nice balconies and are spacious Beds are very comfortable. There are restaurants, a coffee shop and wine tasting on the grounds. Room service is available as well. Dogs are welcome which I found surprising in such a beautiful place! You can get a lot of walking in just going to your room if you are not close to parking! Terrific place to vacation if you can afford it!!!
"A Cozy Fall Getaway for Two"
My boyfriend and I work endless hours for each of our jobs. With our busy seasons winding down we decided to take a much need trip to relax. We both had never been to the Bacara, but had heard great reviews. After the 6 hour drive, pulling up to the stunning cobble stone courtyard was breath taking. Katie at the front desk was more then friendly and did not hesitate to ask us if we needed anything. They made sure to valet my car, load all our bags onto a bell cart and personally escort us to our upstairs villa (which was stunning & complete with a fireplace). That's where we met Nick, who after being helped by him several times over our stay we aptly named Mr. Bacara. He gave us dining recommendations, brewery spots (we are beer people) and always made sure to give us a ride when the rain hit. Nick was professional, friendly and genuinely a wonderful guy! We booked a couples massage at the spa and it was one of the most amazing spa experiences. Margarita was my therapist and absolutely fabulous. She was attentive, calming and sweet. My boyfriend had a male therapist and said it was the best massage he has ever had. I have never seen him more relaxed so I can concur. We followed the evening with dinner at the Bistro on property and despite the windows being open on a very chilly evening the food was good. Especially the Thai Brussel Sprouts...OMG! I loved being able to wander around the property and then walk right to the beach without leaving. We frequented the Bacara Bar in the lobby and never had a bad experience there. If I had to make one complaint, it would be the amenity we received in the room. Although I was able to customize an amenity package with a concierge which was great, the presentation was sub-par. The alcohol was left in a glass and there was plastic wrap left on the top along with two browned limes. I was under the impression that when I ordered this, I would have a mini bottle of my preferred alcohol like in the pictures. It just did not justify the amount of money I was charged for the amenity but all in all everything was fine. The hotel was beautiful, the staff was professional and the trip was a success! We cannot wait to come back here with our dogs!
"Great place to vacation with your dog. Bark bark Barcara."
I was looking forward to returning to this beautiful resort. However, this time it felt more like a dog kennel. Dogs everywhere in restaurants at wine & cheese tasting on lounge chairs at the pool even sitting on a bar tool. Tripping over leashed animals everywhere. Yuk, I will not be back.
"Quick get away, dropping the kid of at UCSB"
Bacara is a gorgeous property located a few miles north of UCSB. Hacienda style villas throughout with arched doorways, wood accents and shutters everywhere. We came here because our kid is attending college down the road and we drove her here after the thanksgiving holiday and thought we'd make a weekend out of it. So far, this place is very comfortable and friendly. The grounds are well kept and dog friendly (we brought our dog) and the beach is just a five minute walk down the path. Although there was some oil tar on the rocks from a recent spill, we managed not to get any on our shoes while taking a stroll down the ocean side shoreline, so I guess they cleaned up most of it. Oil rigs sit right off shore, which makes the natural environment a little spoiled, to be honest. But still, gorgeous beach walk nonetheless. Really remarkable sunset for our first stay, with dramatic rain clouds revealing multiple hues of pink, orange, grey clouds and blue skies peaking out here and there. So gorgeous, but rain in the parts are rare, so we felt lucky even though the sunset was paired with a rain coat and hotel loaned umbrella. Don't miss it if staying here, the bluff is perfect with benches waiting for onlookers to relax and take photos. Grab a glass of wine and walk for about two minutes and there you are. Perfect sunset. Last night we had dinner at the bistro onsite. Good food, good service, with a relaxed and well prepared menu. I had the tempura and Oreo soup, light and hit the spot. We couldn't get reservations at the Oak Angel onsite, their premier restaurant, but we met a couple who dined there last night. They told us that the food was excellent, but known primarily for their beef filets. I can't give you my take, however, since I didn't eat there, but they raved about their meal. We did the spa this morning. Nice facilities separated by male and female dressing rooms and whirlpool spas, steam room, and sauna in each. The spa pool is perfect for those not willing to swim with noisy children and families. It's a designated quiet area and was perfect for laps. The saline water was a nice touch and proved gentle on the skin and hair. So much better than your typical chlorinated swimming offered at most hotels. Lovely pool and as a swimmer, I loved it. We didn't utilize the fitness facilities, but they are open 24 hours and everything is modern and state of the art. We had breakfast at the spa grill. A green omelet split between the two of us which wasn't green in color, but laced with spinach and goat cheese, with a side of kale pesto, which was remarkably tasty. I usually hate kale, but loved this recipe. I recommend it. We also ordered protein smoothies. Both were awesome, tasty, and infused with nutrients and a protein boost. Our suite was ground level, mostly because of the dog, I think. But it's roomy, well appointed, and sporting a bath tub which has shutters that you can open up into the bedroom. It looked so inviting that I took a bath. Overall, and so far, I'm loving this place. It's perfect for a quick getaway and if in the area for another purpose. It's a bit pricey, but every one nice and a while, when you feel like splurging, this place is worth it. I'd stay here again.
"Best in Santa Barbara"
My wife and I have stayed at Bacara over the years about six times now. It's the best place we know of to stay in Santa Barbara. There are 3 pools and two hot tubs as well as a spa with gym. The spa pool is no-kids, which is nice. The bistro cafe near the ocean has a great morning buffet. All this luxury comes at a hefty price and double check your bill as we were charged repeatedly for services and items we should not have been charged for..however the staff cleared off those charges when we noted them and that seems to be a normal part of the billing process. Bacara also has a frequent-stayer program that offers upgrades and they were nice about doing that. Note that from the lobby you will go to your room via a golf cart and check out again using the cart. The rooms have iPads that allow you to request food and services without having to call the lobby. There is natural tar on beach but they have cleaner to clean your feet and shoes. Take the nature trail below the bistro to the beach house. Overall, very nice and the personel all seemed sincerely nice. Bring small bills as you will be tipping at every turn.
