"Gorgeous in every way!"
The rooms were outstanding. Very private with outdoor seating for most units. We were there for a wedding and the setting could not have been more beautiful. We ate at the bistro in outdoor tables. Perfect weather. The menu seemed quite limited but staff was willing to accommodate some special requests. I think the food was overpriced but what a view. For breakfast I recommend the Cajun kitchen in Santa Barbara. Don’t be fooled by exterior. Order eggs Benedict! There is a lot of walking at RC Bacara but you can request open shuttle any time.
"Spa fail. Turns out the holiday dinner fiasco was not an anomaly..."
Last year, my wife and I wanted to eat our Thanksgiving dinner at the Bacara. A disaster. How hard should one work to make a reservation? Multiple calls, no response. Anyway, today I asked my assistant to purchase a spa package for my wife with the gratuity paid up front, so my wife could just show up and be pampered. She was told that they no longer allow that, but we could buy her a gift card for the hotel and she could just use that. Wow, how romantic, a gift card... Perhaps I could just leave her some cash on the nightstand and be done with it. I guess the Ritz Carlton customer-centric approach has devolved to the Henry Ford approach: "any way you want, as long as it is the way that we want." Not feeling the Ritz Carlton love. As Maya Angelou said, "when someone is showing you who they are, believe them - the first time." I think I should stop working so hard to give the Bacara my business. I hope your mileage varies.
"Always an amazing visit!!"
We have visited several times and have enjoyed Easter Sunday, Christmas & New Years Eve!! My wife and I have a great time and the food was amazing. All the people are so friendly and the valet are ready to have our car ready to go!! I look forward to our next visit.
Arrived on Friday early. Valet took our vehicle and we didn't need it until we checked out Sunday afternoon. Everything you need is on the premises. Bistro was very good. Angel Oak was awesome. Spa treatments were wonderful.
"Spectacular property but overpriced and only good for certain purposes"
We rented a top (3rd) floor ocean view room, the nicest category. Beware, the second floor ocean view is same price but not nearly as pleasant. Our room was indeed nice, but still quite dark, and the small patio allowed for 2 upright seats, not lounge chairs; hard to see ocean except from outside. We were told the Angel Oak restaurant had lost its chef to El Encanto, and indeed, upon experiencing both restaurants, we found out that was quite a loss for Bacara; we had a mediocre meal. ONE SINGLE hot tub for >400 units? Ridiculous, didn't want to share a tiny hot tub with a mob of kids+. The weather prediction had been for sun, and we had only clouds, in the low '60s. Nothing the resort could do about that of course, but be aware that weather is VERY undependable there (the predictions we saw were entirely wrong). Hats off to the architects who designed this place: gorgeous "apartment village" with lovely landscaping, a feast for the eyes. Some outstanding service (e.g. valet service) but also some very cheerful and solicitous but ineffective service; when e.g. we called to say we would come to the desk to check out, we received a message to email the hotel. Altogether, expensive disappointment. This is probably a good place for hot weather season and people who want to spend a lot of time and money around a pool or spa or the golf course, but otherwise, why??? We much prefer several other coastal retreats with much nicer views, better restaurants, and lower prices.
