Well we're back for another wedding weekend for great friends and fun. As always the resort is meticulously landscaped and maintained and as always the service is less than par at The Bistro restaurant. Two meals in a row. Been waiting 45 minutes for our breakfast. Eggs are tough to make. Rooms are great, weather is great, staff is friendly just not very well trained in the restaurant. We thought it would've gotten better since the last time we were here, but guess management hasn't improved. Not a deal killer when you have limited choices. We'll probably return for another event, but most likely not on our own. For such an expensive and high end resort it is disappointing. Wish I could write a better review, but for $1,000 weekend I expect a little more in food service. Maybe I'm a snob and should lower my standards to accommodate theirs!
"Return to the Bacara"
We stay at the Bacara one or two times each year. Our most recent visit (June 5th - June 9th) as always was excellent! The entire staff is extremely professional, friendly and always ready to help. Our room was very clean, with a great view. We very much enjoyed our meals at the Bistro (great service and very good food). The gym is one of the best we have ever seen at a hotel/resort. We highly recommend the Bacara. We will be returning in October.
"2017 Graduation Weekend"
What a beautiful way to celebrate a college graduation! Our family spent a recent weekend at the fabulous Bacara Resort & Spa to honor our daughter's UCSB graduation. From the moment we stepped on to the resort, we were treated like special guests! Champagne, wine, cheese and crackers were available in the lobby as we checked in. A tour of the property was next and then our room. All the amenities of a normal upscale resort and then some. A complimentary bottle of wine in the room, a pop up s'mores cookout on a nearby grassy knoll, beautiful walking trails, inviting pools plus an adults only pool for even more solitude. Every single staff member we encountered went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of with a warm smile and friendly attitude. We had a first floor room with a private patio and it was very quiet and most comfortable sleep ever in a hotel. All the services were at our fingertips with the in-room tablet for ease in accessing and ordering. The Spa was one of the best we have ever utilized and the food was exceptional with a nice variety. Stunning views of the Pacific Ocean from the pool and pool bar couldn't be beat! And the final send off took all of about 5 minutes from the time we called for a tram to pick us and our luggage up. During that time, we were able to check-out and have our car waiting for our departure. We will definitely be back again!!
"not a 5 star hotel"
This is not a 5 star hotel, not even close. Upon arrival I went to the main pool. It looked like college spring break. I got my own towels and went on a hunt for chairs in the shade. There were wet used towels on just about every chair but there were no personal belongings. After finding no open chairs, I decided my only option was to use a chair that looked like it wasn't in use. A waiter came over to tell me people were using the chairs I was sitting on. I told him that if he could find me another place in the shade, I'd be happy to move. He didn't find another seat and told me to sit there and then when a family returned in 5 minutes they started accusing me of "stealing" their seats while they were away for an hour. The pool staff handled the situation poorly and lets just say the other hotel guests looked like they were on the infield of a nascar race, not a 5 star hotel- both in appearance and they way they spoke to me in an incredibly offensive way. The pool staff didn't do anything after I requested another seat away from this family that was screaming at me. This was the first hour of my experience at this hotel. I wasn't happy and the staff set the tone for the rest of the visit. The following days we used the spa pool to avoid the unruly and trashy crowd at the main pool. We later found out that many people come for brunch or lunch so that they can use the pool and hotel grounds. My advice to this hotel would be that they should really consider having policies in place to avoid the riff raff from ruining the stays for guests that are paying $600+ a night for a room. I won't be returning to another Bacara property in fear that they don't value hotel guests and would prefer incremental day visitors who create hostile environments that downgrade the hotel. Morale of the story- stay at the four seasons unless you'd like to feel like you are at a college tailgate.
Where do I start.... the staff is AMAZING, all friendly and always with a greeting. Room wasn't clean properly dirty coffee table, balcony. They seem to have a pluming issue since the water in the sink and shower took considering amount of time going down, it didn't bother me so much in the sink but it did in the shower. Called front desk to have them clean and remove dirty glasses from previous guest and they thought it was my mess! Really!? Left a glass out side the door, it took two days to pickup. It's not that big of property and have enough staff for this not to happen. A resort this pricey shouldn't have issues. Should be immaculate. We also paid for a Classic Massage ($180 for 50 min) got only 40min and I have paid way less for a better massage. Sauna, steam were full of soiled towels. Stayed there 4days, 3 nights. Bring all your credit cards, you'll need them!!! $,$$$.$$
