Very pleasant experience. Room was clean. Location was great! Close to the beach, within walking distance to State Street, the harbor, Stearn's Wharf and the Funk Zone. Would definitely stay here again.
"Great place, location, and time"
We stayed there for a couple of nights. The place is not mass produced glass and chrome. It is charming, comfortable, and homey. The beds were very comfortable, the room clean, and the it was very clean. I liked the glass of wine upon arrival after a long day of travel. The location across from the beach is perfect for being close to the water and restaurants. The employees were all very pleasant and helpful. They helped to make the stay even more enjoyable. The breakfast bar was delightful. They had muffins from a local bakery which tasted very homemade. The hardboiled eggs were still warm - a plus in my book. They had fresh fruit, croissants, bagels, yogurt and tasty coffee. I will definitely stay there again if I have the opportunity.
"Hotel Milo was a fantastic hotel at a great price"
From our arrival until our departure, the staff at Hotel Milo was extremely friendly and everything in the hotel was top notch. The location is great: just across the street from the beach, and the harbors where restaurants and shops are (go to Brophy Bros for the best clam chowder and a cold beer!). The hotel also offered some great perks: 4PM complimentary bike tour of a couple of nearby breweries and wine tasting rooms, 5PM complimentary wine service in the front foyer/sitting room, and a healthy/hearty complementary breakfast in their large dining room each morning, with a lot of choices. The room was perfect size for my wife and I, and was very clean. There are 2 pools, and one excellent hot tub we soaked in. The whole place was just very, very well maintained and we loved everything about it. We'll be back.
"Great Location, Good Perks, and Nice Vibe"
Our family – two adults and two teenagers – stayed at Hotel Milo in Santa Barbara in December, before the Christmas holiday. This is a nice time to visit Santa Barbara because the weather is still nice, but prices are low, and there are fewer crowds. One of the reasons we chose this hotel is that it is right across the street from West Beach, near Stearns Wharf. It is a relatively long walk to shopping and restaurants along State St., but it’s doable, and there is a trolley that provides service along State St. and other downtown destinations from Stearns Wharf. (There’s a nominal fare and it only ran through 6pm when we were there, so didn’t work for dinner.) Overall, we loved Hotel Milo for the following reasons: 1. Location – We really wanted to stay near the beach and this hotel is right across the street. We got up every morning to walk the beach. It’s also a couple of minutes walk from Stearns Wharf and the marina, where you can rent kayaks or go on a whale watching or fishing trip. This location is not as convenient to shopping and restaurants, but it’s also not inconvenient. It just depends on what your priority is 2. Dog friendly – Hotel Milo welcomes pets for I believe $35 extra per night, and our dog loved it, especially being so close to the beach! 3. Complimentary buffet breakfast and wine tasting – The buffet breakfast was more substantial than I expected – cereals, muffins, croissants, bagels, toast, fruit, oatmeal, hardboiled eggs, juice, and of course coffee and tea. It’s really great when you’re on vacation and don’t have to pay for that first meal of the day! We also enjoyed the wine tasting available every night, and even purchased a nice bottle of local wine to take home with us. 4. The room and overall vibe – The rooms are comfortable, spacious, clean and nicely decorated, with comfortable beds, fresh beach chic décor, and hard wood floors. The hotel is spread out, so there are many different room situations – ocean view, garden view, near the pool, etc. There are also a number of room configurations. Because we had two kids with us, we chose a room that had an attached alcove with sofa bed. The main room was great, but the alcove was tiny and not overly comfortable. Still, this is a good option for families who don’t want to have reserve two separate rooms. 5. Complimentary bikes – Hotel Milo has cruiser bikes on property and they are free for guests to use. We enjoyed a wonderful day biking along the coast all the way to Butterfly Beach. 6. Wi-Fi – our teenagers particularly appreciated the free wi-fi in the room and on the property. We had very few complaints about Hotel Milo, but here they are: 1. As mentioned above, the alcove for the “Deluxe King with Sofa Bed†room is tiny and barely fits the bed when it is pulled out. Since we were there in December, the alcove was also really cold, so we had to jack up the heat in the main room and keep the door to the alcove open in order for it to warm up, which sort of defeated he purpose of having an adjacent room. The staff was nice enough to bring extra quilts for this room as well. It wasn’t horrible – just not great, and probably wouldn’t be an issue during the summer. 2. The walls were paper thin, and you could hear a lot of what was going on in other rooms. 3. Hotel Milo is a lot more spread out than I expected and our room was pretty far from the pool. Not a big deal, but would have been nice to be a little closer since it was cold outside.
"Nice place with some personality"
There are several small hotels and motels in this West Beach area of Santa Barbara. This one was perfectly located (right across the street from the beach and close to the big pier), and it had a bit more personality than some of the other places that I checked out. My room was on the small side but very modern and comfortable -- like what one would find in a small boutique hotel -- and I slept very well, in a nice comfortable bed looking out at the ocean. This hotel is part of a small chain of similar hotels around the country, and it has a few different buildings and wings, with small gardens in between. How you feel about the place may depend on which room you get, so ask for something with an ocean view that has some character. The hotel has two pools surrounded by small gardens; I didn't use them but nice to know that they were there. The staff were nice and accommodating as well.
