Over Inn and Spa at Loretto

"Quaint old town. "
Third stay at the Inn, conveniently located near the town, with many restaurants and shopping options. Situated next to the Loretto Chapel. Many unique little stores located inside. Stayed in the Teresa, king size bed with a balcony. Rooms are clean and well maintained. The main sitting area with a fireplace is a wonderful way to end a long cold day.
"Very Nice but Pricey"
We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff is friendly and the management does all they can to help you make the most of the stay. The location is excellent, near the plaza. I recommend the Inn, the Spa and the restaurants and bar, but be prepared to spend a lot of money!
I was certainly swayed by the gushing reviews by previous guests of this hotel on different sites when planning my vacation, but after returning home after a week there, I have decided that I must be a tad spoiled in my tastes from prior 5 star lodgings. With that said, I feel the Lorreto is a tentative at best, 4 star hotel. The location is right where a guest can easily walk to the central plaza. At our arrival, a valet was on duty to park our car, but no bell hop to help with luggage. The front desk was friendly and very helpful especially when I became disappointed when seeing our room. The person on duty quickly showed us two other rooms we could have in the same price range. We choose the room that looked like what I saw on Expedia. All three rooms look like they need updating, unlike the main areas: lobby, hallways with shops, restaurants, bar area, outside facade, landscaping, and front desk which are decorated in the quintessential SW decor and are nicely done. The stated king size bed seemed more like a queen size to us. The heating and cooling unit in our room was so loud that to hear the TV we had to crank the volume up in the mid 30's on the remote control. I was glad that no one was staying next to us - we probably would have been reported for playing our TV too loud. And speaking of the heating and cooling unit, I set it at 67 degrees the first night we were there because that is the temp we keep at our home during the winter, that was ok for the night but during the day we were freezing so I turned the thermostat up to 74 and that was better. The second night the unit quit working but after a call to the front desk a very nice maintenance worker arrived in about 15 minutes and got it "reset" and changed a very dirty filter. We continued to keep the thermostat set at 74 just to be comfortable. The heating units used in the rooms are really heat pumps and they are rarely used in the part of the country where we come from because they do not perform well. Also all hallways are only heated enough to keep pipes from freezing. The exception is the major areas where guests congregate. We ate in the hotel restaurant the first night we were there. The sliced bread brought to our table was hard as a rock and the mini muffins that looked so delicious and tempting exploded in my hands and face. I have to wrap up this review running out of space. Last note- valet service lacking.
"A great Santa Fe getawayThis place is"
The Inn at Loretto is just so Santa Fe. We only live an hour away, and this is our favorite destination when we get in the mood for a Santa Fe weekend. We love the laid back feel, the beautiful art, the twisty hallways, the wonderful showers, the really cool old pictures on the walls, the very nice breakfasts in the restaurant, and pretty much everything about staying here.
No HD tv..... Noisy HVAC... Paper Thin walls. Not as nice as Hampton Inn at three times the price. I was shocked to learn that this property doesn't have more than 20 TV channels and none are HD quality. I was up all night listening to the HVAC drone on like a jet taking off.... so I got to hear every word of the fight between the couple across the hall. The walls are paper thin. The bath is small and the tub/shower is tiny. The location is good... but you can stay a few blocks away from the square for a lot less money. The only saving feature... and the reason we didn't leave was the Luminaria Restaurant... very good service and good regional food. All in All... Skip it.
