"Can’t wait to return for another stay!"
What a fun and immersive experience! Having read nearly every review, we were cautiously optimistic, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return. Standout experiences were the trail rides, the cowboy cookouts, birdwatching, yoga, the delicious dining room food, and watching the horses head for the hay barn at turnout time! The spacious hacienda had such lovely, rustic, yet high quality decor and finishes that it was easy to overlook that it had been a while since the last refurbishment of the bright spacious bathroom. The landscaping was beautiful, from the many varieties of cactus, flowers, and trees to the sculptures and the Old West antiques. The many horses seemed thoughtfully chosen and well cared for. Activities were easy to schedule online or by calling the sweet concierge, Bea, and we recommend doing so even before arriving for some of the most popular riding activities like the extremely fun cow penning. There were thoughtful touches like making coffee, juices, fruit and other snacks available in a common area between meals. Management folks were frequently visible making sure guests were well cared for. Almost without exception, we found the staff to be lovely, genuine, and friendly. We had an absolutely wonderful time to the extent that I found myself brushing away a sentimental tear or two as I purchased refrigerator magnet photos of our favorite horses in the gift shop on our last day!
"Very mixed review...."
My husband, 15 year old horse crazy daughter and I went on a 5 night vacation to Tanque Verde with the hopes that our horse riding daughter could ride a lot and we could relax. The property is beautiful. We had room 18, which was very spacious and clean. We got a special on Black Friday for our trip which gave us all the all-inclusive option at no extra price. Pros: 1) The wranglers were really social, welcoming, and definitely knew their stuff in terms of horseback riding. 2) The food was very good for all meals. 3) Easy drive from San Diego for us. Cons: 1) There is some weird hierarchy of guests at this place. Some guests had special signs on their dining table ("The Smith Family") saving them a spot and a little sign outside the dining room welcoming them ("Welcome Smith Family!!"). Of these families, we observed some getting unusual attention from servers, staff, and wranglers that we definitely did not receive. Were they repeat customers? Big tippers? I have NO idea!! 2) Activities (in our case 3 loping rides) will be cancelled or rescheduled with NO notice to you. Even though they have your room number and cell phone number. When you have a 15 year old anxiously awaiting her loping ride, it is NOT fun to go get on the horse to hear that the ride was cancelled hours ago and no one ever bothered to text/call us. We could have gone and done something else. 3) Service in the dining room: Not good for us. We made reservations for dinner through John and Renee at the front desk. Then, we'd show up only to be told they did not have our reservation. And the three of us would have to sit at the busy table by the kitchen door. Or the HUGE table for 12 in the back. And we wouldnt get our food for 1 hour and 15 minutes after our reservation time. And our table wouldn't be given bread, while the special guests were. 4) Drinks at meals: This place REALLY needs to have a self serve drink center in the dining room. We would show up for breakfast or lunch, go to the buffet, get our food, eat our food, and then FINALLY someone would bring us our coffee or drinks. Service took FOREVER. Good thing we had a lot of time!! 5) On the night that we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food, I ordered a well done ribeye steak. It arrived rare. At that point, I was not waiting for another. The server said she'd remove the charge from our bill. Except, we were all inclusive, so that never happened. Final thoughts: If you absolutely love horses, this is a great place to vacation...but book all your horse activities as early in the day as possible to avoid cancellations. And try to hook yourself on to one of the special families so you, too, will get great treatment. One more thing...Tanque Verde, please add wipes to the gym so people can wipe down the equipment after use. It was gross watching a very sweaty person walk away from the treadmill and I had no way to clean it before my turn.
Great vacation with plenty to do from riding to mountain biking to hiking to tennis to hanging out by the pool. Great food! Great staff! Nice rooms. I highly recommend. We were all adults but seemed to have plenty to do for kids too so imagine would be great family vacation.
"Perfect Family Vacation"
We took a week off with our 2nd grader and Kindergartner during spring break. We dropped off the kids at daycamp where they rode horses, did crafts, lawn games, swam in the pool, and goofed around on the tennis courts. The wranglers were great with the kids. My wife and I took horse rides, hikes, and rode mountain bikes. The scenery couldn't be beat as TV is in a bowl between two mountain ranges. Food was great though I wished they varied the dinner menu more and also included Mexican options. To tip the likes of the wranglers, you can fill out a form when you check out. Also, choose the "all inclusive" option if you are staying at the hotel for the day. Otherwise, you can downgrade to B and B only.
"Best relaxing vacation"
Was such a great vacation. Horseback riding is my passion and this vacation included sharing my vacation with my hubby and he enjoyed it as much as I did.Scenery was breathtaking. Staff great and food was fantastic
