"Lacking in Customer Service... Not intended for a fun family activity"
*This reviews Tanque Verde receptionists and reservations* Because I always read most (if not all the reviews on a place before arriving). Tip #1. Do not call to book while on your break... our reservation experience was a 30min disaster. Tip #2. Even the friendliest traveler can encounter attitude with the receptionists, until you begin rethinking your decision to go to Tanque Verde Ranch for your (once) fun family activity. Tip #3. Once you arrive and speak with the competent person who can help you (even without being given any prior details), you may be met with unimaginable female hospitality staff members...who make you think, "Are you paying me for this service or are we customers making this booking?" We were expecting a good experience, with the price we're paying + based on previous reviews, but their customer service has changed as of November 2016.
"Great family vacation. Can't wait to go back."
My family and I vacationed at Tanque Verde Ranch in November of 2016. All of us had a great time, and we've already contacted the ranch about returning next year. I cannot say enough good things about the ranch. We stayed in a casita on Roadrunner Ridge for 4 nights. The room was nice and very large, and the outside patio was fantastic. We didn't spend a ton of time in the room because there are so many activities to participate in, but we did relax on the patio each evening. Our patio, like most at the resort, look directly into the mountains of Saguero National Park and Corronado National Forret. It was an absolutely incredible view. The staff at Tanque Verde was second to none. From the shuttle driver to the airport (Jeff is excellent), to the front desk staff, to the wranglers - everyone seemed genuinely interested in making our stay be the best it could be. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly, and they went out of the way to make sure we had a fun and relaxing vacation. We did alot of horseback riding, and I did a lot of mountain biking. Both were very well organized and very fun. PNut in the mountain biking department is great, and really added to the vacation. The biking trips are tailord to your ability and very fun. My son is 4 years old, so was in the Kids Club (Buckaroos) Program the whole time. We were nervous at first, but he absolutely loved it. The employees/wranglers in the kids club program are great. Our son didn't want to ever leave, and spent all day with his "coaches" and "teammates." He spent plenty of time on horseback, and there were tons of other activities planned throughout the day. The kids program really helped my wife and I relax and have a great time on our own. While everything was fun, my favorite activities of the week were: the mountain adventure ride, the breakfast ride, and mountain biking. I would recommend everyone give each of those a try. (None of us had any riding experience before we went, and had a great time and spent a ton of time on horseback). I absolutely recommend Tanque Verde for anyone interest in trying a dude ranch vacation.
"Cowboy dinners is poor quality"
I have been regularly going 2-3x per year to these dinners. My guests and I attended on Saturday, the 12th. Andy, the country singer, was below average. The food choices were less than in the past and some dishes served to us were not properly cooked. They corrected the food problems. However, overall very disappointing.
"How To Erase Years of Customer Loyalty"
As a professor and CEO I've stayed here many times over the years when I come to Tucson to instruct courses. Normally a good experience, but this trip insured I will never return. Stayed 4 nights. First night fire alarm went off at 3am, but no big deal. Went to the front desk the night before checkout and explained I'd be teaching a course locally on the morning of my departure. Checkout time is noon and I indicated I'd probably be back by 1 and could I please have a late check out of an hour. Polite young desk clerk wasn't sure how to handle, so he asked the ranch manger who very bluntly said it would be $75 for the hour late check at 1. The Ranch is virtually empty and the money certainly isn't an issue, but the attitude of take it or leave it was insufferable and rude. I know how hard it is to gain good repeat customers and how easy it is to lose them. Sad that this Ranch has lost its way after so many years.
"Kick Your Boots Up"
We just returned from a 4 day stay at the Tanque Verde Ranch in Tucson. We attended their Boots and Brews event and added another day on to our stay to make it a very long weekend. We flew into Phoenix from LA and drove the 2 hours down to the Ranch. The Boots and Brews was a first time event for the Ranch so there are some kinks to work out, but overall we could not have more pleased with our stay. Our only beef about the Boots and Brews was that it was hot out and there were no pop ups or umbrellas on the terrace where it was held. We found refuge nearby the pool in an alcove where we enjoyed the music, the craft beer and the food. Overall the event was good and in the coming years I am sure it will evolve into great. As for the food, it was plentiful and constant. We enjoyed the dining room, the BBQ event out in the Cottonwoods and the morning Breakfast ride. The ride up to the Old Homestead was just fabulous. We were a bit early so they took us farther up in the hills than is the norm before leading us back to a chuck wagon breakfast. They take great care to ensure that everyone is well fed and safe on their mounts. The horses are very well behaved. They have 2 wranglers, front and back for every group of 12. It is well run and safety is a high priority. The rooms at the Ranch our well.... Ranch style. I think they are just perfect. Everything is very low profile and blends into the Saguaro National Forest which the ranch butts right up against. We had a two room Hacienda in the Javelina Heights area of the ranch. The room had a separate bedroom with two queen beds and then a living area with two couches that fold out into beds. The bathroom was interconnected between the two rooms. It was perfect for us and we loved it. Overall we could not have been more delighted with our stay. I kept saying... if I had gotten to go to a place like this when I was a kid, I would have been in hog heaven. It is everything you imagine a dude ranch would be and more. The staff was great and our every need was met. They have two pools, one indoor and one outdoor, a gym, a spa, a gift shop all in a western style setting. We had so much fun we can't wait to return next year.
