"5 Star Family Vacation Destination"
We chose the Tenaya Lodge as our base camp for a few days of exploring Yosemite and we certainly made the right choice. We were greeted by helpful and smiling employees from the moment we pulled up for registration. We were able to check in very quickly and all details were as confirmed prior to our arrival. We chose to stay in one of the cottages separate from the main building. They are a pathway walk away, but the hotel staff has shuttle drivers and valets ready to take you to and from if you don’t want to walk. Parking for cottage guests is located right beside the cottage and was very convenient. Our room was beautiful and featured two queen beds, an electric fireplace along with a small eating area. Just outside our door were two cozy Adirondack style chairs and a peaceful area to sit and relax. The bathroom featured high end spa soaps and we loved the built in heater fan. Bedding was comfortable. Rooms have a mini fridge, Keurig with coffee supplies and microwave. The resort features a deli and coffee shop, several restaurants and a pizzeria. We ate dinner at Jackalope’s Bar & Grill. Prices are a little high, as typical of most on property resort dining, but the food was delicious. They also have a great kids menu. My 7 year old recommends the kids Mac and Cheese, it tasted homemade and he loved it. Their homemade kettle chips were also a favorite. Our server was friendly and made our experience even better. We signed up for a few activities. The Flashlight hike was enjoyed by our entire family. It is a one mile loop off the Jackson Road trail and was lead by a very nice guide who took time to stop often and tell us about different types of trees, edible plants and the history of the area. This is a very easy hike and there were kids and adults of all ages. The cost was $16 and it was a good value for the experience. After our hike we visited the pool inside the lodge. The Resort provided complimentary lockers. There are several hot tubs with one marked for adults only. Pool area was clean and stocked with full sized beach towels for guest use. We also loved the kids lounge. Free games, puzzles and entertainment. They also have movies playing all day for kids. This was a great way to burn energy before dinner. We also registered for the Yosemite Bus tour (separate fee, price varies by season) provided by the Resort. The tour is an all day experience on their luxury coach bus that has a glass top retractable roof. We saw and spent time at every notable location within Yosemite we wanted to see. Our guide Jerry did an amazing job detailing the history of the area and answering questions. The bus makes frequent stops for pictures, mini hikes and a longer lunch break. We bought bagged lunches from the Resort deli and enjoyed them in a sunny picnic area in Yosemite Village and then explored the Visitors Center, Museum, Ansel Adams gallery and Indian Village. We had an amazing day and the Tenaya bus is the best way to relax and enjoy the Park. We had an amazing time and would recommend Tenaya Lodge. The Resort is family friendly, pet friendly, great food, activities and a staff that genuinely seemed to enjoy making sure we had a great time.
This 4 diamond hotel was a pleasant surprise!!! Very friendly staff. Kyle the bartender in Jackalope & Bryon in Sierra were exceptional. There are dedicated concierges in a separate room to handle all of the activities day & night. We took the full day tour of Yosemite and it was wonderful as well as the guide Rob, who made the day fun!! Beautiful lobby with fireplace & grand piano. Three great restaurants. Our room was surprisingly large with comfy chair & ottoman, desk and two chairs, very nice bathroom with bathtub & heat light. There is on demand movies, heater works great. There is a coffee maker with K cups, robes & everything you need. Beautiful grounds would be so much fun in the summer.
"DISAPPOINTING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND POLICY"
A few friends were visiting from abroad, and we were very excited about traveling to Yosemite and staying at the Tenaya Lodge from all the positive reviews. Even though we had monitored the weather continuously, about a week before the trip, COLD SNAP HIT NORCAL BY SURPRISE. A couple of us were already a little under the weather from traveling, so it was definitely not advisable to go to Yosemite when the weather forecast suddenly dropped FROM 30F DOWN TO 0F. While most hotels have a 24-48 hour cancellation policy, the Tenaya required a 7-day advance notice. We called the hotel 4.5 days in advance (just about when the weather forecast was starting to take shape), and was met with extremely unsatisfying and rude customer service. We called the reservation line (apparently outsourced) and explained the situation, the person said he couldn't do anything and had to transfer us to the actual hotel. When the agent at the hotel answered the phone, we had to explain the situation again, and SHE IMMEDIATELY TRANSFERRED US BACK TO THE RESERVATIONS LINE without giving us a chance to explain that we were just transferred over. Back at the reservations line, a different agent picked up, and we explained the situation yet a third time, and the agent gave us two options: (1) forfeit the $477.3 ($238.65 x 2) deposit for 2 rooms, or (2) postpone the trip. We explained that we could not postpone the trip because our friends were VISITING FROM ABROAD. The agent really sounded like she could not care less. After we had asked to speak with a supervisor, she disappeared from the line for about 15-20 minutes and magically came back with a new offer, a letter of credit redeemable for 1-year. At this point, we thought the offer was pretty reasonable, so we took it after confirming by actually speaking with the supervisor (again, we had to ask a second time to speak with the supervisor). I must say, the supervisor was EVEN RUDER than the original agent. She basically told us that THE WEATHER FORECAST DROPPING FROM 30F to 0F is normal, and implied it's our fault and she's doing us a big favor. To wrap up our experience, the supervisor did end up cancelling our reservation and sent us a letter of credit, BUT THE LETTER OF CREDIT IS ONLY FOR ONE ROOM ($238.65), AND NOW I CANNOT EVEN FIND A RECORD OF THE RESERVATION ONLINE. She also addressed the letter to one of our friends (WHO DID NOT PAY THE DEPOSIT AND WILL BE LEAVING THE COUNTRY SOON). I will probably have to call them back, but this company has lost all my trust and respect. I will not be doing business with them, and I would recommend all who are first-timers in this area to STAY AWAY.
"A Great and Friendly Place"
While I only stayed at the Tenaya for two nights and didn't do much there, I enjoyed my time there and want to come back to stay longer. Tenaya has many activities, and while I wasn't able to see all of them, they seemed enjoyable. The service was friendly. I found a booger on one of our blankets, and the desk people were very nice about it and gave us more blankets. The room was very comfortable. There was a working TV, a nice table to work at, good lighting (although not the easiest to access), and comfortable beds. The bathrooms were nice, and there was a Keurig, fridge, microwave, mugs and glasses for water, and some creamer and things to go along with coffee and tea. The bathroom was clean, and it didn't feel really weird taking a shower in a bathroom that's not at home. The food was also very good. I enjoyed a large breakfast buffet that included fruits, bacon, potatoes, and lots of good food. Also, there was a pool and hot tub, which was comfortable, but a bit crowded. The pool is not very easy to access, and you have to go to the second floor, walk across this bridge, then go down to the first floor to access the pool. Also, the elevator that leads to the pool is not accessible from the west wing, where I stayed. It took me about 10 minutes to get back to my room from the pool because the elevators were confusing and I kept getting lost. Overall, Tenaya was a good hotel.
If you plan to enter Yosemite via the southern entrance, this lodge is a good place to stay. Room was fine in the main lodge. Restaurants ok. Nothing bad, nothing exceptional but we ate their 2 evenings for dinner at the Jackalope restaurant. The spa is nice. Hot tub is near the pool and not the spa. Sorta weird going to the second floor then taking an elevator down to the first floor.
