Over Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite

"Beautiful scenery and nice lodge, but expensive "
Can't fault the scenery, it is magnificent. Close to the national park it is convenient, quiet and the lodge itself is beautiful. Unfortunately everything there is also very expensive. it may be worth the price to some but we expected more for that amount of money. Little things like our water bottles not being replaced, and having to chase up whether kids camp was on (it wasn't) were also inconvenient. The restaurant meals were ordinary and overpriced, and there is a charge on everything. Outdoor pool was also closed due to season despite it being very hot, and the inside pool wasn't very nice.
"Fantastic service and room"
We stayed here for 3 nights in a cottage room and thought it was superb. The cottage room was gorgeous, set in the woods, with two queen beds (v comfortable) and parking right outside. Fantastic shower, efficient air con and fluffy towels, as well as dressing gowns. It was a short five min walk to the main building. All the staff were so friendly and helpful - from check in to the concierge (where we got great tips for hikes in the park - they also are aware of closures due to forest fires) to the gift shop, the deli staff (you can pre-order lunch to take on your hikes) and the restaurant/bar staff and bell boys. It really felt like they couldn't do enough for you. If you're considering staying here though you do need to be aware that while it's a short drive to the park south entrance it's 1.5 hours to Yosemite village, when the traffic is good, so this obviously takes a chunk out of each end of your day... and believe me driving back on that switchback road in the dark is not much fun! We found out that there was a forest fire very close to here just a few weeks ago, and everyone was evacuated for a fortnight (it was VERY close). When they came back they had to sort out smoke damage - I have to say apart from a slight smoky smell in some places we would never have known, which I think is testament to the staff attitude and hard work they put into getting it back to normal again. When we drove out to go to Kings canyon you could see how close the fire came... The only thing I would change here is the menu in the restaurant - a bit more choice would be great, otherwise superb accommodation, great setting and amazing staff.
If a week earlier would have missed this place as was closed because of the fires. Was made very welcome and we loved our cottage stay. Very private and had our own outside area. Large room and clean. Pool looked lovely but was out of use and didn't eat there either. Close to entrance of park
"Post-Yosemite backpacking trip"
This was the "rustic Ritz Carlton" I needed after sleeping on the ground at 10,000 feet in the Sierra Nevadas. Beautiful property, great pools/hot tubs, nice room, lots of activities for kids, and a great spa! Restaurants not that great and quite expensive, little choice (please improve the wine list). Enjoyed my bloody Mary ($15)....which I had instead of breakfast (couldn't see paying $50 for breakfast). Nice place, above average service. Could be more like RC - better service, more choice with restaurants (menu and price), and complimentary coffee in lobby like RC wouldnt cost much (but would improve the experience).
"Beautiful Lodge - rest falls short"
Based on the information on the web- we booked here for one night and when our plans changed we added a second night. At $349 the price is steep for the value. Their web-site stated an up-date was done to the cottages where we stayed but our cottage had a bed with saggy mattress and frayed carpet. So obviously not all cottages were up-dated and for the price I felt we were hoodwinked. Then their restaurants -there are 3- only opened the casual restaurant Wednesday night - so packed we waited 30 minutes for table and 60 minutes for our meal :( For Thursday night they opened one of the other restaurants but with 2 restaurants open it took +45 after we ordered to get out meal. Staff very friendly but asking for an ice bucket and wine glasses from operator and it took 35 minutes to be delivered. All in all - nice place but not worth the money
