"Adequate. There is nowhere nice to stay in Yosemite"

We stayed here to hike in Yosemite. It takes about an hour to drive to the valley floor from here despite this being one of the best located hotels. This hotel itself is nothing special. Breakfast service was tediously slow. Food is ok. Rooms not particularly nice but just about adequate. Both bathrooms and rooms need updating. If there was somewhere nicer I would stay there. Unfortunately even the perceived best hotel the Ahwahnee isn't up to much but at least it would save you the hour drive. Tenaya Lodge is classified as a 5 star. On a world scale it is certainly no more than a 4 star. I would only stay here again if there was no better alternative.

"Excellent atmosphere, food and service!"

My room was on the 3rd floor (kind of noisy past 9 PM..) BUT totally over looking that due to the fact that the service at all three restaurants were fantistic! The food (especially the breakfast buffet) was amazing! LOVED the piano at night too. Definitely recommend taking your spouse to Tenaya Lodge.

"Excellent staff, excellent location, very family friendly"

We stayed for 2 nights in January, which is low season in Yosemite, so the price was right for us. We stayed during a big snow storm, so unfortunately we didn't get to experience many of the lodge's outdoor activities, but we did use the indoor pool (thanks for the complimentary swim diapers!) and arcade. Snow sled area was closed because we were told it was all ice, but i believe it opened back up the day we left thanks to the dump of snow the night before. Staff is great, everyone is very friendly

"Tenaya Lodge could be so much better."

I have stayed at the Tenaya Lodge twice during the winter holiday season. Most recently, my family stayed for five nights in December 2016. Here are the good things about the Tenaya Lodge: the grounds are lovely, the big lobby is festive and nicely decorated, the beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean and there a lots of activities for kids. Unfortunately, we experienced a variety of problems on our most recent visit. It started at check-in, which was supposed to be at 4pm. Our room was not ready until 5:30pm and I had to check back at the lobby—waiting in long lines—three times before I finally got a room key. When I complained about the wait and inconvenience, I was given vouchers for free breakfast for all the days of our stay. I appreciated this gesture, but I think a partial refund of the room rate would have been more appropriate. I imagine that if a guest were to check out an hour and half late, they would be charged for this. On two separate nights of our stay, there was a fire alarm that went off: once at 9:30pm and once around 2:00am. It was a false alarm (I guess), as we received a generic form letter apologizing for the inconvenience after both incidents. During the time of both alarms, there was mass confusion in the hallways and it was unclear if we were supposed to evacuate or not. The food at the Tenaya Lodge is, for the most part, mediocre and overpriced. The service in the restaurants ranges from decent to completely incompetent. I had quite possibly the worst service in a restaurant ever at the Timberloft pizza place down by the cottages. There were several parties waiting for what seemed like an eternity in the freezing entryway to be seated, while tables were empty but not bussed. I saw one couple with a baby just walk out, because they got tired of waiting. When we were finally seated, it took an inexplicably long time to get one pizza. Our waitress disappeared for long stretches and I thought we'd never get out of there. The pizza is barely edible and the $10 all-you-can-eat salad bar has wilted lettuce and some canned vegetables. As far as the activities go, ice skating is fun but the check in process is completely inefficient. I took a peek at the user interface to get ice skates and have the fee for skating charged to one's room, and it required an insane amount of clicking. The person checking people in to skate could not type (it was all hunt and peck), so this added to the wait. There is a big sledding hill which requires kids to walk up two sets of treacherous stairs (they are not cleared of snow), across a couple of outdoor areas, past the skating rink, just to get back in line to sled again. This system is truly insane. Every parent there was complaining about it. I saw people with baby carriers who actually couldn't even go down the stairs because it was so dangerous. There is a tiny tot sledding area where kids can crash into hay bales. This is fun for only the smallest kids. The only place to have a fun sledding experience is to walk into the woods surrounding the lodge where you aren't actually supposed to be sledding. There is also a nice sledding area a short drive away, but the road to get there is not plowed so it required chains. The indoor pool is nice and there are two hot tubs, but the temperature of the pool and hot tubs in inconsistent (sometimes the pool is pleasantly warm, sometimes it's freezing). The hot tubs also have temperature problems. To get to the showers and changing areas from the pool, you have to go out the door, down a cold hallway, around a corner and then, finally, you get to the shower/sauna room. Again, it's insane. Maybe the placement of the shower room makes more sense during the summer when people are using the outdoor pools. Overall, it's the little annoyances that add up to a less than optimal experience at the Tenaya Lodge—for instance, when housekeeping gives you a ton of bath towels, but no hand towels (?!). The parking lot outside of our room smelled like a sewer ever time we went outside. I could go on, but I grow weary just remembering all this. After five nights, I couldn't wait to get out of there. In summation, I would recommend the Tenaya Lodge with reservations. It might be okay for a couple of nights, but not an extended stay. My family won't be staying there again. The experience is definitely not worth the jacked up holiday prices.

"Pleasantly surprised"

Nice family friendly resort/lodge (we went with our 14 and 12 yr olds) on southern entrance of Yosemite. Very easy check in and check out. Friendly staff, easy to get rollaway bed, extra conditioner, etc. ask for 4th floor and if you can get a Groupon - it's a deal! Took off star because the concierge on site is great but not quick to respond to emails or phone inquiries. Also the pizzeria is pretty good though found the other restaurants not great (food or price). $13 for cookie with ice cream?! C'mon. Also one elevator slows things down a bit.
