"good but not great"
First of all, there are not a lot of choices around Yosemite. We were looking for a nice hotel close to the park entrance after a full day of driving. Just wanted to pull in and get a nice room and soak in a hot tub and have a nice dinner before exploring the park the next day. On first impression this place is amazing. Big beautiful lobby, they had upgraded us to a suite, which means the room was a bit larger and had a large bathtub with jets in it. The room was nice, clean, had all the amenities. We visited the hot tub which was inside since it was November and the outside one was closed. It wasn't really that hot and felt like it was kind of an area that didn't get much maintenance in the hotel. Needs a bit of a makeover, old plants that were dusty around it and the hot tub wasn't even full enough for the jets to work correctly. We had dinner at the hotel in the medium fancy restaurant, I cannot recall the name but they have a pub like restaurant, a family style and a fine dining. The fine dining one was closed and we felt like something a little better than pub food. The problem was the food was uneatable. We sent back both of our entrees. It was disgusting. I was embarrassed for the waiter who was very nice and offered to get us something else but at that point I had lost my appetite. The second night of our stay the heat wasn't working. When I called to request a heater or extra blankets they never showed, I called again and still it took an hour to receive these items. Perhaps it was off season for them and they were short staffed. But when you are ready to go to bed and need extra blankets to stay warm because the heat isn't working, and it's 30 degrees outside, I expect it to not take an hour. It's not a cheap hotel but some of the details of the stay made it seem like that.
"Beautiful location, fantastic service, bring your own food"
The hotel is beautiful in a gorgeous setting. It was all dressed up for Christmas when we arrived so festive and fun. Room was spacious, clean, and well organized - we had a 2 queen room in with a view of outdoor pools. Parking for our area just in back of East wing was very convenient. My only complaint was food was outrageously priced, and the selection was very limited. Breakfast for two (pancakes for my daughter, standard American plate for me with eggs, toast, hash browns, bacon) was $50 US. And if it was out of this world in taste difference I would get it but just not. The deli had some good to go selections (sandwiches, snack foods, coffee, etc.) but still overpriced. We also looked inside the cottages which are outstanding and just a 2-3 minute easy paved walk from the lodge - would definitely recommend that for more quiet and privacy. Very cozy with fireplaces, microwaves, so you could eat in if you get creative. And you do feel nestled in the woods. The lodge has archery, sunset/flashlight walking tours in the woods, and some fun activities as well as spa options. The service was truly outstanding - we had a handicapped person in a wheelchair in our party and the staff could not have been more accommodating. We attended a wedding and the venue, food, cake, and staff were all tremendous.
"Nice fascade and amenities but a mess for peace and quiet"
This hotel is quite beautiful, has great amenities, the rooms are updated and is in a convenient location, however do not stay at this hotel if you are looking for peace and quiet. This is by far one of the worst hotels for noise I have ever stayed in in my life. The walls are paper thin, every noise, voice, bang in the rooms around you can be heard as if they are happening in your room. I could hear the person in the room next to me snoring and it sounded so close and loud I thought it was the person in the bed next to me snoring. Every little movement or sound in the hallway echoes and is obnoxiously loud even if a person is talking in a normal voice. I could hear someone 10 doors down on the complete opposite end of the hall way close their door, roll their suitcase, and fully understand every word of their conversation. Every conversation in the hall sounds like it is happening right outside your door, the elevator dings and it sounds like the elevator may as well by in your shower. If you are looking for a nice quiet, relaxing place to stay. This is not for you!!!! I cannot stress this enough, from the outside you would think ahh a nice, beautiful lodge in the middle of the woods with a spa, you are guaranteed to have some a restful and relaxing vacation- but that is definitely NOT the case here. Their beautiful lobby, rooms and restaurants are ruined by the experience of trying to get a minute of peace and quiet while in your room.
"They are accommodating.."
But do not expect any help with reservations since these are made in Delaware with an agent having to clue that there are no views from rooms. However, once we arrived and were not happy, they moved us to a room not overlooking a parking lot. It is a nice and roomy hotel with a comfy lobby and plenty of free parking. We noticed some poor vacuuming practices around our bed and I had just about the worst Niçoise salad with the dryest leftover chicken and equally stoney little bacon bits. Husband's hamburger looked way better! But really, still 45 minutes to the Yosemite Valley Floor, soma drag of a drive twice a day. It was a lovely drive but eats too much of one's time.
"A very nice facility"
We stayed here for two nights. The service was excellent. In fact they saved us a lot of grief by finding my wife's wallet which had dropped out of her purse. We are so grateful. The facility is rather old and the rooms show there age and lack some of the conveniences of more modern facilities. The lobby is extraordinary. Large and very comfortable. A great place to sit and people watch. They have three restaurants, an indoor and outdoor pool, a gift shop. They have a lot to occupy ones time plus it is so close to Yosemite. It looks better than the hotels on the park grounds.
